Obama Plays Ball While Cops Honor Their Dead

Yesterday, the President of the United States again showed his true disdain for American law enforcement. Despite being a stone’s throw from the 2009 National Law Enforcement Ceremony he had much more important national business to take care of. While the noontime ceremony got underway, the President of the United States was hanging out with baseball players in the White House.

From his official schedule release for 05/15/09:

12:20PM THE PRESIDENT welcomes the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Team to the White House

South Portico

Open Press (Pre-Set 11:20AM – Final Gather 11:50AM – North Doors of the Palm Room)

So at the exact same time that cops stood at attention in front of the Capitol to honor the fallen, Obama delivered this extremely important speech instead:

President Barack Obama honors the 2008 World Series champions Philadelphia Phillies baseball team, Friday, May 15, 2009, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington.

President Barack Obama holds up a team jersey presented to him by Philadelphia Phillies baseball shortstop Jimmy Rollins, left, as Obama honored the 2008 World Series champions Philadelphia Phillies, Friday, May 15, 2009, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington.

This is even all the more pathetic when one considers the number of police killings that the Philadelphia PD experienced in 2008.

As a two time Phillies World Series Champion parade attendee, I’m willing to give a minor pass on this one. To wit:
It all calculated. EVERY PHOTO OP is calculated.
A photo op, especially without substance, is above his paygrade. Phillies got the attention today based on a confluence of events earlier in the season. Chief among them when last the Phightin Phils ewwere in DC was the tragic passing of the Great Harry Kalas and a mean, mean rainout.
Saturday’s Phils / Nats games 8-5, 7-5 Phil game was the makeup, and Sunday was Obama’s Photo op at Notre Dame. Phillies aren’t due back in DC until September. Presedential tradition has long been to welcome a championship team. At least he got this traditional event right. He didn’t throw out the first pitch on Opening Day,

A question not addressed in this article, was a representative of the Executive Branch of Government dispatched to this event. it would have been appropriate for a senior Justice Depatrment official.

Eric Holder was in attendance. However, Obama’s presence instead at a fluff event at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue is inexcusable. The World Champs could have been scheduled at another time, probably the same day. That photo-op probably took-up all of a half hour.

Cops are well aware of Obama’s ties to terrorist Weathermen founders Ayers and Doehrn, whose organization killed and maimed multiple cops. Likewise, they are aware of Holder’s actions in obtaining pardons for FALN terrorists, who also killed and maimed multiple cops.

This was beyond a lapse of judgment. He can’t take the time to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty because he wants to pal around with baseball players. Disgraceful and dishonorable behavior.

I am NOT disagreeing with you! This is one of those rare occassions that O seemed to act like an executive and had delegated a responsibility to an appropriate designee. Like I said, it’s all calculated.
Both events deserve his presence, The Memorial service while no doubt a higher order event deserving of attendance.
Based on the logistical needs of both events, rescheduling would have been difficult for either events timeline.
The WH likely made a decision based on which event would get more press coverage fo BHO. Obviously, that would be baseball. It was covered on ESPN, MLB, in addition to every other news outlet. Had he chosen the Memorial service, it would barely get a mention in the news, especially with the Pelosi distraction currently underway.

Both Bush41 and Bush43 both attended every National Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on their watch (the memorial was dedicated during Bush41). They did so because it was the honorable and right thing to do (Clinton was a mixed bag, with Bigfoot Reno filling in for him from time to time).

In typical leftist fashion, Obama puts popularity over values. One doubts he actually values fallen police officers, considering how they, like the military, are considered the enemy by so many of his core interest groups. In fact. the truth is, he probably actually values baseball players over police officers.

Bush43 was overseas in 2008, addressing the Knesset in Israel.

is set months in advance. That’s what a calendar is for. You put it on the calendar and you schedule around it. The Phillies, while deserving of their White House visit, could have come earlier or later that day. You mark the Law Enforcement Memorial as BUSY, and don’t schedule a conflict.

Of course, he would have been late anyway. What is it with Dems and clocks?

is NOON ON MAY 15, EVERY YEAR!

          • red4ever

I knew it was roughly the same week every year. I did not know it was the exact same time and date. This should have gone on his calendar November 5, 2008.

Didn’t Obama also pass over a visit to our wounded soldiers in Germany when he was on his “I am the Messiah that you have been waiting for”tour? I can only hope that when the protests turn ugly in the streets (about when his extended unemployment benefits end with millions still unemployed) the very same police and military that he shows didain for remember his lack of respect, and give back in kind.
