Breaking: Mitt Romney To Endorse Marco Rubio

I first heard of this on Ace Of Spades and got a hit on CBS News.

AP – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will endorse Marco Rubio over Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida’s Republican Senate primary.

Romney plans to make the announcement on Saturday, according to a Romney adviser who wanted to remain anonymous because the announcement hasn’t been made yet.

Romney is the third major 2008 presidential candidate to endorse Rubio. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee have also endorsed the former House speaker.

The adviser said Crist and Rubio both asked for the endorsement and Romney has spoken with each candidate, but Romney believes Rubio has a stronger conservative record and is an idea-driven leader.

Romney’s PAC is contributing $5,000 to Rubio’s campaign and the former governor plans to campaign with Rubio on Monday.

Wow.

Comments on Ace Of Spades’ site seem to point to an opportunistic move on the part of Mitt Romney. I don’t doubt it myself, Mitt Romney has been getting a lot of flack from conservatives of late over RomneyCare. Still, if he wants to endorse and then give Rubio $5,000 for his campaign, then who am I to stop him?

It’s good to keep our own honest and move them right.

Heckuva lot better than Romney endorsing Crist.

I hope all our RINOs are scared stiff and move hard right.

Romney’s endorsement is all about 2012. Romney finally saw which way the political winds were blowing and he decided to blow that way too.

Huckabee’s endorsement was about character, conservatism, and the future of the Republican party. Huckabee saw a strong moral, conservative in Rubio-one who could a Senator for Florida now and a leader for our country later on.

After the disaster of Romneycare, Romney will be going the way of Crist.

at some point will be as toxic as Obama campaigning for Democrats. He can’t escape Romneycare, at least as long as Obamacare is still in the news.

What I do like about the endorsement is that it flies in the face of the NRSC that still backs Crist, even if Romney has ulterior motives for the endorsement.

“Great Leadership” by Romney. Endorse Rubio after Crist’s campaign chair quits.

Huckabee endorsed Rubio when he was behind Crist by 15 points.
