The FL-22 race has taken an interesting turn:

U.S. Rep. Ron Klein is acknowledging the threat to his re-election from Republican Allen West and his challenger’s supporters in the tea party movement.

He’s even attempting to use West’s tea party base – and the most prominent tea partier, Sarah Palin – as a way to fire up Democrats for his re-election campaign.

Democrat Klein, who’s represented a Broward-Palm Beach county district since 2006, is facing a serious threat from West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who now lives in Plantation. A range of political analysts in both parties think Klein is the one South Florida incumbent member of Congress who could lose his re-election chances.

He’s taking the threat seriously. At the big state Democratic Party conference over the weekend at the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood, Klein sought to energize activists for his race.

So Klein is running scared and trying a tactic that might just backfire on him, because Klein is trying to say that Allen West has the support of the American people behind him and that’s not really a bad thing. But the biggest thing that is really scaring Klein, is stuff like this (via The Shark Tank):

Allen West wants that gavel. Ron Klein would love nothing more than to let Nancy Pelosi keep that gavel. The choice is clear, Allen West is our man in Florida’s 22nd.
