New Donald “Birther” Trump Has Lost Me

*sigh*

Come, I will hide nothing from you. I was snooker into this whole “Birther” movement for all of two minutes. Then I remember that even if you were born outside the US, if one or more of your parents was a US Citizen and under the right conditions, then you are yourself a US Citizen.

PUMA: They Started This BS Birther Crap

But there’s an inconvenient truth liberals are going to have to confront: The Birthers began not on the right, but on the left.

Investigations for my new book, Wingnuts, revealed that the Birther conspiracy theory was first concocted by renegade members of the original Obama haters, Party Unity My Ass, known more commonly by their acronym, the PUMAs. They were a splinter group of hard-core Hillary Clinton supporters who did not want to give up the ghost after the bitter 50-state Bataan Death March to the 2008 Democratic nomination.

In the early summer of ’08, message boards on sites like PUMAParty.com began lighting up with the ultimate reversal-of-fortune fantasy—that their party’s nomination could be overturned on constitutional grounds. “Obama May Be Illegal to Be Elected President!” read one representative e-mail: “This came from a USNA [U.S. Naval Academy] alumnus. It’ll be interesting to see how the media handle this…WRITE TO YOUR LOCAL newspaper editors etc. Keep this out there everyday possible. Also write to the DNC too!”

I remember that. This is why I fell for it. I thought, since it was ok for liberals to question Obama’s birth, why can’t I?

Then it dawn on me that it was a dumb argument. There is so much more to hit Obama over the head with, that we don’t need this at all.

Honestly, how did we fall into this internal Democratic Civil War? “Truthers” and “Birthers” should be confined to the far left. Those who subscribe to either theory should have “Crazy” tatoo on their forehead and sent on their way.

Obama’s Mother A US Citizen, Thus Obama’s A Natural Born US Citizen

Ok, let’s say Obama WAS born outside of the United States. Let’s ask ourselves two questions of Ann Dunham (Obama’s Mother) and if they square up, he’s still a Natural Born US Citizen Answer to both be YES (this asumes Obama Sr and Ann Dunham’s marriage was invalded due to him beinging already married back in Africa):

  1. Was Ann Dunham a U.S. citizen at the time of the Obama’s birth? Yes.
  2. Was Ann Dunham physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of one year prior to the Obama’s birth? Yes.

GUESS WHAT PEOPLE!! BARACK OBAMA JR. IS A BLOODY NATURAL BORN US CITIZEN!!!!! END OF STORY!!!!!!!!!

I have just proven, even if he was born in Kenya, that Obama has the legal right to be the US President. Enough, is enough, is enough.

Donald “Birther” Trump

I was excited about Donald Trump getting into the race. I thought to myself: “Yes! Someone with business experience who is going to add something to the debate!”

However, I have been watching with increasing alarm at how Donald Trump has gone off message with this whole “Birther” crap. I didn’t want to believe it. However after watching Fox And Friends this morning and listening to Donald Trump go full “Birther” on us, I can no longer support him in any way.

End Of Story

I can’t stand “Birthers”, because there are more legit things to hit Obama over the head with than where he was born or where he was raised. I think it’s also it is a lazy argument. If you have to fall back on “Well, he wasn’t born in the US!” then you yourself have nothing to offer me.

Let’s send a message to Donald Trump that this sort of nonsense is unacceptable. “Birthers” are not wanted here or on the Republican Ticket.

I’m pretty sure that it’s just a publicity stunt. I don’t know how anyone could take Trump seriously as a Presidential candidate, especially for the GOP. Great birther refutation, Gator.

    • Ann_W

He’s less of a political junkie than me. I don’t think my husband knows about the birther comment yet, though.

      • http://www.thejoyofreason.com Greg Garrison

Here’s a story via Mark Levin. Trump’s political donations are pretty lousy, and while I’m firmly of the opinion that people can change perspectives (I have), this move seems awfully calculated..

Here’s a story that suggests pretty effectively that the run is bogus anyway.

        • acat

          Time will tell …

Trump has similarities to both – he’s someone “too rich/popular to ignore”, who can afford to self-fund, and who could suck voters away from the GOP.

Perot did (and this cat has always wondered how many contracts Perot Systems received as a result…) by challenging Bush and Dole in the general election, but Forbes did not.

          Just sayin’

          • http://www.thejoyofreason.com Greg Garrison

What drives me ape about Bush, Dole, and Clinton is that the narrative about 92 and 96 is all about how they were smashed at the polls, but without Perot sucking people away in 92, Bush almost certainly would have won, and Dole would have stood a fighting chance in 96 without him.

That said, I suspect that Trump will drop out once his media investment has paid off with a more burnished brand. I don’t have the faith that many here do that 2012 will be a runaway Republican success, and given his oratory skills, charisma, and campaigning abilities, Obama may well pull a re-election out of his hat. I think that this will be a pretty tough year, though I hope that I’m wrong.

          • acat

but I agree, if Trump decides to play the role of Perot, it’ll make aa much tougher go for the GOP…

That said, I think you’re right – Trump isn’t interested in running, he’s interested in making money, and POTUS doesn’t pay that well.

Maybe he’s decided to take on Nanny Bloomberg and is trying to show some “serious” .. ?

            Mew

          • acat

By talking to birthers as if they’re a a legitimate pool of voters, this will make it tougher for another GOP candidate, one who has specifically disavowed birtherism, to pick them up.

This would, however, likely provide at least a subset of the birther pool to Trump should he decide to try a third party approach.

It’s more likely, though, that Trump is trying to fluff the ratings for his “The Apprentice” series or some other venture.

If he was conservative at all he wouldn’t be donating to Anthony Weiner, Gillibrand, Democratic Action Groups, etc. etc. Thanks for putting that up.

  • Finrod

Now the other candidates can come out and say things like ‘even if Obama was not native-born, the only constitutional remedy is impeachment; it would be far better to simply make the issue moot by electing a Republican to replace him’ or something similarly worded by someone with more writing skill than I have.

  • Donald Ayotte

“Then it dawn on me that it was a dumb argument. There is so much more to hit Obama over the head with, that we don?t need this at all.”

Well I am not accusing him of not being a citizen but he has yet to provide a long form birth certificate. If he wants to squelch this attack, it seems that this would be the easiest way.
Quite frankly, I smell a rat when it comes to the legality of his presidency in this regard. Being a citizen is not the same as being born in America to Parents that are citizens.
One of the many rumors that I have heard is one by his paternal grandmother that he was indeed born in Mombasa Kenya and was there for two months before he was brought to the US by his mother. Ask any Kenyan and they will tell you that he is indeed Kenyan.
    Just sayin!!!!!!

“If he wants to squelch this attack, it seems that this would be the easiest way.” It’s pretty clear to me that Pres. Obama does not want to squelch this attack. Seeing that night after night after night the liberal media uses birthers to demonstrate that people on the right are loony and racist. I’m sure he was born in the US, but if he wasn’t what does it really matter now. We have to change hearts and minds by being right, there’s not going to be an easy way to get rid of Obama (anyway the presidency would go to Biden– how is that an improvement?). So please step away from the drum.

“I was excited about Donald Trump getting into the race. I thought to myself: ?Yes! Someone with business experience who is going to add something to the debate!?”

I mean really, if Trump is a birther, that may be as close to reality as he gets.

  • Donald Ayotte

I am not quite up to all of the blogging terminology. What is nt and what is a break? If it is a link or a source, let me know.

    • http://www.thejoyofreason.com Greg Garrison

I was saying “Give me a break” in an overly verbose way, because I think that the long-form birth certificate issue is ridiculous and deserves snark, at best (nothing personal, but no good can come of it or anything else birtheresque).

NT means no text. You put that at the end of a comment title when the whole comment is in the title itself.

  • Donald Ayotte

Although I believe that the issue of the legality in now a moot point, because I believe it will harm America more that helping us, it should be addressed.
I firmly believe that President Obama will be defeated in 2012 and Obamacare will be demolished.
It doesn’t matter at this point whether he is in the presidency legally or not. He is destroying our country’s capitalist system piece by piece. I will be surprised if we are not invaded before the end of his regime.

    This guy really scares me!!!!!

  • sp4prez

But we’re all a bunch of idiots since it’s so obvious, right?

If Hussein Obama is a citizen,SHOW US THE F***KING BIRTH CERTIFICATE. How hard is that?

        • Donald Ayotte

The argument about the birth certificate has lived far past its usefulness and the Obama Regime is not above using it for their foul purposes. What concerns me is that republicans in all 50 states should unify with one purpose in mind. TO DEFEAT THIS SOCIALIST PRESIDENT WHO WOULD DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.
If we learn that he is indeed not qualified to be president because of his birth at a later time, then we can convict him of committing a crime after he serves his term as president.
His policies have hurt many Americans and he continues to view the world through rose colored sunglasses, without caring about America’s well-being.

          • Ann_W

Now I feel bad, I’m sure you’re a nice guy.

Sounds like you’re on the right page now, let’s put all our effort into 2012, not looking backward.

Millions of Greeks thought the Earth was flat.

Millions of Spaniards thought if you sailed west far enough, you’d fall off the edge of the earth.

A fair number of people (don’t know that it was ever polled) thought detonating an atomic bomb would cause a worldwide cataclysm.

A lot of folk think glass is a liquid.

I’m sorry to disappoint, sp4prez, but “a lot of people agree with me” does not change the facts. As Gator showed above, even if Obama was born in Kenya, his mother having lived in the U.S. for a calendar year prior to the birth is sufficient for him to claim natural born status .. or to at least tie the case up in court until well after the 2012 election.

There are plenty of reasons to oppose Obama. There are even good reasons to promote Palin as a replacement. Birtherism is neither, it is a fool’s errand, it is a search for a left-handed wrench… it is a waste of time and resources.

Both ancient Greeks and 15th Century Spaniards were well aware that the earth is spherical. It’s been accepted as fact in the Western world since Aristotle.

You might want to read the Site Rules here; among other things, ‘truthers’ (9/11 conspiracy types) and ‘birthers’ are positions that are verboten– look underneath rule 7 for the gory details.

I dont see how anyone can take him seriously. The man has no soul and would sell his kids for a couple of million.

    • http://twitter.com/biggator5 BigGator5

I would honestly like you to point out where I said I took Trump’s run seriously.

I said he’d be “[s]omeone with business experience who is going to add something to the debate” and nowhere did I said I supported him or that he had a chance in hell of winning. My main point is that I’m sad and disappointed that he has gone completely off message with this dumb “Birther” crap, when he could take the more honorable route of sticking to the issues.

      • Goldwater_Conservative

by even mentioning his existence and potential to run. All Trump wants is for people to talk about him and his company, so the best thing to do when it comes to him is ignore that he even exists.

        • renny

I’ll be a devotee, work for him, promote him, and vote for him, but I will the same if the Reps. nominate a garden snake. Except it would have trouble with the teleprompter, the snake would make as much sense and generate as logical snake-like decisions as the current occupants of the WH.

  • silkywiley

Obama is a natural born citizen. So what is it on that birth certificate that he is so adamant to protect? Prior to the 70s, you were not allowed to list the name of a father unless there was a marriage. Why doesn’t some investigative reporter dig up Stanley’s marriage license. The mystery of the reluctant President will likely be solve. Other than that, the arrogance of withholding his birth certificate is problematic for me, not his birth on American soil. However, in the list of sins of Barak Obama this is hardly worth a mention.

  • nvrepub

…but realize this is a loser of a political issue. Totally futile and self-defeating.

  • renny

but no one spends upwards of $2 million defending himself against something so obvioulsy common as showing a real birth certificate.
