Jindal v Cheney: When reporters repeat White House talking points

Sometimes you have to wonder if reporters just do dictation for Democrat Press Secretaries. Check out this story by Politico’s Andy Barr. He invented a debate between Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal and former Vice President Dick Cheney to make sure that it had the White House’s framing, no matter how far from the truth it was, excluding all sorts of essential facts.

You see, Jindal was on Good Morning America, Jindal came on right after Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who had just attacked Cheney. The GMA host asked Jindal to respond to Napolitano about Cheney. Jindal ducked and attacked Obama’s policies. Watch it:

But look at how Barr reported it:

“I think Democrat or Republican, we should all agree that our current president, our former president would obviously want to do everything they could to keep us safe,” he said. “Let’s give the new administration a chance. Let’s not question their intentions. Let’s have a real debate on their policies.”

The Republican governor praised Obama for “showing more flexibility when it comes to Iraq than maybe some of the campaign rhetoric suggested.”

“I am, quite honestly, pleasantly surprised,” he said. “That’s the kind of pragmatism, listening to the commanders on the ground, I think is very important.”

Jindal did offer some criticism of the president, pointing out that it is “fine to have an honest disagreement on the policies that both administrations would choose to try to keep us safe.”

Somehow Barr’s report manages to exclude Jindal’s criticism over Guantanamo prisoners, which was one of Cheney’s specific attacks. He also excluded the fact that the question asked was explicitly in response to Napolitano’s attack on Cheney. Or even that Jindal didn’t even mention “Cheney”, “Vice President”, or anything like that.

And that tells you really what you need to know. Like with Rush Limbaugh, the White House is trying to pick their opponents. They want to be debating Dick Cheney, not Bobby Jindal. GMA didn’t give the White House’s framing by asking Jindal to respond to Napolitano. So Barr stepped in to frame it up with the White House’s preferred story-line, points of disagreement. What was “Cheney attacks Obama”, “Napolitano attacks Cheney”, and “Jindal attacks Obama” was twisted into “Jindal attacks Cheney” by aggressive editing and removal of context.

This is just a reporter taking dictation for the White House. Nothing more complicated.

Warms my heart to find out Governor Jindal was lied about (nt)

I’d rather everyone get along, but I’ll settle for everyone united in hating me for being a jerky moderator.

Easy to see who scares the leftists

by whose interviews are selectively edited for consumption by the masses. Governor Jindal seems to have moved upwards in the lefty hit list

Media Has it Out for Jindal Already-

Jindal is a good man- quite unlike the Bolshevik bonehead we’ve got in the White House now.

Of course, the Obamaphile media already have their long knives out for Governor Jindal… in a similar approach to the one used on Palin and the TEA Party protesters: portray them as wack-jobs, eccentric, and just too far-right for American voters. Outfits such as the Huffington Post are already trying to nip Jindal’s ascension in the bud.

But they are right about one thing; they DO have reason to fear the electoral appeal and success of Bobby Jindal. This accomplished conservative doer is the very antithesis to the Democrat’s unaccomplished, liberal talker now in the White House.

So go get ‘em, Bobby… you’re a good man, and perhaps someday a great one.

He probably wrote his report before the interview took place.

Never give in! Never! Never! Never!

So we know how the MSM lies

But I think most people don’t really get it until it happens to them. I find it encouraging that this week, hundreds of thousands of Americans experienced it for themselves.

Everyone who went to a Tea Party or who had a friend or family member who went to a Tea Party was lied about. Hopefully more and more will begin to question whether they should believe what’s “reported” about Cheney, Jindal, and everyone/everything else.

Call me Captain Positive but I honestly do have great faith in the American people.

I don't even know why the Politico exists

I understand it to be a web site that reports on political matters with a leftward slant, but we already have plenty of those: e.g. the web sites for the NY Times, WaPo, MSNBC, CNN, etc. If it was just a straight up, tell it like it is, political news web site, then they would be unique and would be filling a need. But, as it currently exists, I have absolutely no use for it. If I want the Democrat spin on something (which I almost never do) I’ll just go to MSNBC or, even better, whitehouse.gov.

In my Humble Opinion Politico exists as another

extension of Axlerod, baghdad bob and rambo the vulgar. They came on in the election as being in the middle. The further into the elction the farther left their road turned. When obamas truned to the middle with his lies to get elected, they went left.
Now both are so far left they don’t have a right left in them.
That is the problem we have obama and his crew hate God Fearing Hard Working American Citizens.

I would hope and pray with the 4 th of July being a Holiday the True Americans will show up at 4th of July at T-partys and we can have between 15,000,000 and 30,000,000 million out protesting obama, reid, peloski, schummmer, frank, dodd, marxist form of government.

This Nation has never had a president that Hates the United States of America like obama.

This made no sense to me until I saw Politico's headline.

Yeah, a bit of twisting of Jindal’s words, but I can see where he would get it. At the very most, Jindal’s response seems to be “It’s not as bad as we thought it would be,” not “Cheney was wrong.” At least to me it does, when taken in the context of responding to a comment from DHS about Cheney.
Now, what would he say, in private, to Cheney? I certainly don’t claim to know.
