219-212: Cap and Trade Passes House. On to the Senate

The Democrats in the House of Representatives have voted to destroy the United States economy unilaterally. The vote was 220-203. 5 people did not vote. (As of 7:15 p.m.)

The vote was extremely close. 8 Republicans voted yes. 43 Democrats voted no.

Your persistent phone calls kept the margin very narrow and now make it extremely difficult to pass the Senate.

We must keep up the pressure in the Senate. We also now have a lot of momentum going into the healthcare fight. Democrats cannot expect to hold the same economy destroying coalition together.

Also, several Democrats are now dead men walking. We will clean their clocks next year.

UPDATED: Both James Inhofe and Harry Reid predict the legislation is dead in the Senate.

That voted yes needs to be primary challenged and it’s incumbent upon everyone here to not only help find a good conservative candidate, but to do everything they can to ensure they take out those so called republicans who voted for this monstrosity!

This is a sad day for America. a sad day for her hard working citizens and a sad day for liberty in general.

..but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist.

Letter to a "Blue Dog"...out of district, but in my state

Letter submitted through his site:

Heath (Shuler)-
You will not remember me, I am sure, but I attended Gus Purcell’s football camp in the summer of 93. You and I spoke of xxxx xxxx, a common acquaintance, later on I caught up with on crutches in the tunnel of panther’s stadium when Washington was here playing the panthers. That said, I have followed your career with some interest and admiration. We do not follow the same political philosophy often, but I have grown to appreciate your ability to vote your conscience and stand up to the recent strong arming that has been taking place in Congress. I am writing you now, because of your “Yes” vote on Cap and Trade. I felt confident that a “Blue Dog” like yourself would see this legislation for what it truly is…a clear and distinct power and money grab by Washington, again. This bill, that you voted for will in no way help the environment, create jobs or help America become energy independent. What it will do is cost the people more in taxes, more in energy, and result in a lower standard of life for all of us who are paying the way for this country. I am disappointed in your decision, to say the least, and I can no longer wish you a long a prosperous career in politics. This vote was that important. I called your office twice this morning to voice my concern, I guess it either fell on deaf ears, you were too concerned with playing party lines OR you have surrounded yourself with the ilk that is ruining this country….one devastating spending bill after another. In any case, I wish you well, and want you to know that you have lost a fan and that whoever your opponent is in the next election has gained a contribution from this household….in Huntersville…Not Asheville. I will donate to your opponent every year until you are out.

I will contribute to each campaign challenger of these turncoats…PLEASE keep this listed and let’s get these jokers OUT.

To those RINO’s

1stRichard Friday, June 26th at 7:36PM EDT (link)

This will be the end of their career, from every 9|12er to every teamsarah.org to every tea party this will be made a priority.

Want to help unseat the "Cap&Tr&ors"?

ColdWarrior Sunday, June 28th at 12:03AM EDT (link)

1stRichard suggested the “Cap and Trade” boneheads’ careers will end because every 9-12 Project member and every teamsarah.org person and every Tea Partier will make their unseatings a priority. I hope so, too.

But hoping for it and accomplishing it are two different things, naturally.

I suggest all of us use this as a rallying cry to get more conservatives into the Party as precinct committeemen. The best way to end the careers of these spineless fools is to end it in their Republican primaries. The best way to make that happen is to have conservatives flood their districts’ precincts as precinct committeemen to ensure that the conservative candidate challenging them becomes well-known as their adversary in the primary election. Turn out in primary elections is traditionally very low — all the more reason why a concerted “get out the vote” effort for a conservative challenger will make the difference in the primary.

Obama and his minions took down the Clinton machine at the grass roots level. They became PCs and beat Clinton in those states with caucuses. They used precinct committeemen in the other states with traditional primaries to get the vote out better than the “powers that be” in the Democrat Party. We conservatives can take down these RINOs in the same way. But we have to get into the Party ranks.

Are you a precinct committeeman yet?

Thank you.

I am only one. But I am a conservative Republican Party precinct committeeman. And trying to recruit more as politely as I can.

If the Dems knew they had enough cross over votes from a few Republicans, then those Dem no votes on this were more than likely calculated to give those particular congressman cover in their home districts.

A vote against something you know is going to pass, or think is likely to pass, does not necessarily indicate that it was due to any sort of moral compass, desire to serve their constituents, or respect for capitalism or rejection of socialism.

they voted against it because it didn’t go far enough. That’s why Greenpeace was against it:

Since the Waxman-Markey bill left the Energy and Commerce committee, yet another fleet of industry lobbysists has weakened the bill even more, and further widened the gap between what Waxman-Markey does and what science demands. As a result, Greenpeace opposes this bill in its current form. We are calling upon Congress to vote against this bill unless substantial measures are taken to strengthen it. Despite President Obama’s assurance that he would enact strong, science-based legislation, we are now watching him put his full support behind a bill that chooses politics over science, elevates industry interests over national interest, and shows the significant limitations of what this Congress believes is possible.

Why Were Republicans So LATE to this battle??? ; Also, Health Care Was a Stalking Horse for Republicans Suckered by the Limelight

Swamp_Yankee Friday, June 26th at 7:34PM EDT (link)

With all do respect, a couple of us were writing about this last Tuesday, but no one really cared. The GOP leadership and all the activists were AWOL. Its not really an effective strategy to organize to defeat a Bill the day before the vote.

Dems used health care as a Stalking Horse. Nothing is going to happen on health care probably for months. They are not even close. Yet the Dems used Republican obsession with the media spotlight to sneak this through.

So yeah, work on Senators now. Educate, not flamethrow. All the info, stats, videos, … Forcefully, respectfully and intelligently start working on them now. Collins, Snowe, Dorgan, Nelson, Conrad, Baucus, Tester, Bennett, Lincoln,

There has not been an effective strategy

Stephen Halsey Friday, June 26th at 8:07PM EDT (link)

since November 5. Boehner, Cantor and the rest have know about all of this Marxist legislation for months. It’s not like it was a secret or anything. There should have been newspaper ads, TV ads, internet ads already in the can so when the Marxists started their offensive then we’d have a defense in place for their fascistic blitzkrieg.

Sure Boehner’s ‘filibuster’ was a nice stunt to prove that no one knew of the Orwellian provisions in the bill, esp. the one’s dumped at 3:00am but that’s not leadership. Leadership is having a game plan that addresses short term, medium term and long term goals of the Marxists. Is it really hard for the RNC and other organizations to have full paper newspaper ads in the can in key districts so when people open up their paper in the morning they get hit in the face with something like ‘House Proposing Largest Tax Increase in American History’.

We know what coming down the pike.

We know their playbook (Rules for Radicals).

What is it going to take for the GOP leadership to demonstrate true leadership?

I Agree; But Republicas Were Prepared On The Wrong Issues

Swamp_Yankee Friday, June 26th at 8:14PM EDT (link)

What’s really disappointing to me is that Republicans still are dupes for the media cycle. The media told them to focus on health care and Iran and they followed like puppets. Dem leaders saw our pre-occupation and snuck this through.

All week people were baited on health care. Look at all the coverage on conservative blogs, it was almost exclusively health care and Iran. Pelosi knew that and saw the Iran coverage and pushed this forward.

It was so simple. If we had a week to work these pols, we would have won.

Everyone D or R who voted for this monstrosity must be questioned relentlessly while running for re-election. Bad, bad day for America if Cap & Trade goes through. Pretty good day for 2010 Republican candidates.

Dems won’t be able to run on the “I’m not Bush” platform next time. Listen to the grumblings of Warren Buffet & Jim Cramer. Of course, they don’t come out directly and say that the Dems are going to pay for the reckless deficit spending (or ask the Chinese students–hahahaha) and the smothering effect of the cost imposition of cap & trade. But if Dems want to stay in office, they would be wise to put two-and-two together.

If the majority of the people wanted climate change legislation, this bill wouldn’t have been so close, the democratic leadership wouldn’t have had to cut deals and twist arms and it wouldn’t be predicted as DOA when it hits the senate.

The GOP hasn’t had its act together since 2004, but the people have shown in the first 6 month’s by the ever widening approval gap between Obama and his policies; that the policies Obama is looking to sign into law are not what the people want.

Maybe you should pause and consider why this is such a tough sell if the people and its representatives are following the path Obama has set on his solutions for global warming.

There is a lot wrong here

First, McCain did not lose “badly”. This was not a McGovern loss, or a Mondale loss. It was certain a solid win for Obama, but that does not imply that it is “clear that the majority of Americans want climate change legislation.”

Rasmussen ran a poll about a month ago where they asked if people knew what Cap and Trade was about. Given three choices, only 24% got it right.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/environment/congress_pushes_cap_and_trade_but_just_24_know_what_it_is

Most recently, only a small plurality of Americans believe that “Climate Change” is caused by man (44%, compared to 40% believing that planetary trends).

Only 22% would buy a hybrid to help the environment. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/lifestyle/general_lifestyle/april_2009/70_say_families_are_recyclers

So I guess I just don’t buy your assertion that it is “clear” that we want climate change legislation. I suspect when word leaks out that the 202 area code was not clogged today by supporters of “climate change legislation”, but rather those who would rather not have it passed.

If it was supported that strongly, then we wouldn’t have had diversionary tactics of the noisy talk of health care/insurance right before the vote. We wouldn’t have had 300 pages added to the bill at 3 in the morning before it comes up for a vote.

About that 202 area code clog

Someone from the MSM will find 2 people that called in support of it and interview only one that was opposed. Thus the spin will be:

“2/3rds of the callers were in favor of the bill.”

Oh, btw, youthgrunt, Moe took care of the person you responded to about 15 minutes ago. But it was over a comment made in another thread.

With all due respect, it is the law of the land in this great country, not whatever people who “win” decide to do.

Controlling my light bulbs, the temperature on my spa, the reflectivity of the shingles on my roof, the amount of electricity and gasoline I decide to buy on the free market, how energy effiecient my home is when I sell it, is NOT the business of the federal government. It is just that plain simple.

Liberal Dems are the problem, yes ...

Freedoms Truth Friday, June 26th at 9:25PM EDT (link)

BUT THEY ARE IN THE POCKET OF OBAMA AND PELOSI ANYWAY.

The ire directed at the 8 GOP quislings is useful in many respects
1. The Dems needed *every* vote. If the GOP was lock-step against this, it would have failed.
2. It was a bad bill.
3. These Repubs represent *US* supposedly. Fix them and we fix the party.
4. WE WILL GO AFTER LIB DEMS. Every single one. in the general election.

Dear Rep Castle,

{QUOTE}
It was with a great deal of building frustration that I saw YOUR name on the roll call of voting in favor of HR 2454, what the Speaker and President were calling America’s greatest energy bill, and I was calling America’s greatest sucker punch.
Although this vote was primarily along party lines, your vote (as well as Reps Bono, Mack, Kirk, Lance, LoBiondo, McHugh, Reichert, Smith(NJ)) were just what Speaker Pelosi needed to get this monster into our lives.

The roll call of this vote cast SERIOUS doubt on my potential to support you continuing to be employed as a public servant of the people of Delaware. You, Sir, failed miserably in that responsibility today. As the LONE representative for Delaware, you had an obligation to look out for the well being of all Delawareans. A vote of NO by you and the aforementioned other Republican representatives would have at worst, forced the majority go go back to the drawing board to possibly craft a less confiscatory energy bill.

Rest assured that my careful eye will monitor the Senate for their action on this bill. Hope that your fellow First State delegates can find the moral terpitude to resist Leader Reid and the Administration.

All are at risk for finding the unemployment line AS SOON AS legally POSSIBLE.

Battle Still Rages

tarheels23 Friday, June 26th at 8:34PM EDT (link)

This vote was too close to bring the bill to the Senate floor, as it would face near-certain defeat.

So, I’m guessing this bill gets watered down over the next year or so and then gets tested in the Senate sometime in 2010. The left needed this to do better than 80% from Dems, and they needed to bring along a few more Pubs as well.

Those GOP quislings careers are now OVER

Freedoms Truth Friday, June 26th at 9:20PM EDT (link)

Send a note to Sessions and Cornyn “I cannot support any organization that supports any candidate who supports cap & trade. Can you promise me that you will never support any such candidate?”

It is either now or never

Kyle-MI Friday, June 26th at 10:47PM EDT (link)

There is no way they will bring this to a vote in an election year. They might be able to water it down and get it through the Senate, but then they would need a revote in the House. It would be campaign fodder against every blue dog that close to the election.

Good. It's unequivocally the Democratic Cap & Tax Bill

Senate battlelines

Kyle-MI Friday, June 26th at 10:39PM EDT (link)

Here is a quick list of Redstate Dem Senators:
Begich - AK
Lincoln - AR
Pryor - AR
Landrieu - LA
Baucus - MT
Tester - MT
McCaskill - MO
Nelson - NE
Dorgon - ND
Conrad - ND
Byrd - WV
Rockefeller - WV

From conservative purple states:
Nelson - FL
Hagon - NC
Warner - VA
Webb - VA

I think we could even pull a few from midwest industrial blue states:
Bayh - IN (which could also be considered a conservative purple)
Levin - MI
Stabenow - MI
Brown - OH

OK, maybe not those last three, but we shouldn’t need them.

There should be more than enough here to offset Collins and Snowe. At first glance I don’t think this thing has a chance of passing let alone breaking a filibuster. Best to be prepared anyway and not assume anything.

Levin/Stab[y]enow[andagainlater] ... not a chance...

JLenardDetroit Friday, June 26th at 10:56PM EDT (link)

100% committed to the ObamAgenda and destroying Jobs for most while protecting only Unions… They will use the Michigan House members used:

Gary Peters, maybe Ehlers/Stupak/others in MI trading GM, GE, Arena, Cobo, promises for CapAndTrade (CAT) vote

was discussed on WJR 760 AM (Detroit, MI) this morning… The Chevy AVEO is the GM small car but Democrats are not happy enough with those production levels and want the very popular Pontiac G6 gone (as well as forcing GM to produce yet another even smaller car than the AVEO).

It is said that 1,400 jobs will be created/saved at Orion Plant and that Peters is trading his vote for that Plant (no doubt believing that will get his re-election) despite the 4,000 projected job-losses CAT will cause over time and the countless Taxes CAT will bring to Michigan citizens.

More MI CAT Trade-offs: GE jobs and Det. Red Wings….

yep… GE announced some jobs “out of the Blue” are coming to Michigan… Any connection to promised votes?!?!? I think so…. PLUS…. The Detroit Red Wings OPT-OUT of the Lease of Detroit for Joe Louis Arena to “explore other options” … Any bets on the STIMULUS MONEY PROMISES to/for the area that will be made in the name of JOBS to build a new Arena in the Detroit area for yet more CAT Votes?!?!?

Call Michigan Reps and let them know that TRADE-OFFS for their Vote are NOT acceptable and all these supposed “promised” jobs will mean NOTHING when Michigan suffers infinately further under CAT job-losses and Taxes!!!

Ehlers, Stupak, and perhaps other MI (CALL ANY/ALL OF THEM) votes could swing on these Jobs/Projects promises… Call them and let them know trading 1,400 jobs for 4,000 lost and higher Taxes IS NOT A POSITIVE MOVE!!!!

Even though we did not win the House vote, our phone calls and contacts have not been made in vane. The close nature of this vote puts us in better position for the Senate.

I feel betrayed.

Not just by the 8 republican congressmen, but the entire system itself.

While we should do our best to support the non re-election of the 8 and their replacement by “good ” republicans, let us not forget that the real enemies who brought this Cap-and-Tax Bill are the Democrats and the rest of the Environmental Communists.

No wonder the Democrats support gay rights

..Since they seem hell-bent on sodomizing the average American.

With cap and trade San Francisco and New York elites will sit back and stroke themselves over their “enlightened environmental greenness” while the rest of us will just get shafted by higher energy and transportation costs.
