De-Cap-at-8

I have to echo Ironman on handling the eight Republicans who voted for cap and trade.

I’m not up for an NRCC boycott, considering the House GOP is as angry with them as us. But Kirk, Castle, Mack, and Mack’s husband should pay a price.

Consider this an open thread, the purpose of which is for me to test a blogging app for my iPhone.

What did they get from Cap and TAX?

djemi Saturday, June 27th at 10:33PM EDT (link)

What benifits does this bill have for their home districts. Where on the scale do they sit are they the liberal side of the spectrum. And do they not have to vote on this HR 2454 Cap and Trade bleep bleep bleep again after it first passes the Upper Chamber and then gone thruogh that conferance committee thingie. If true I would hope that their minds can be changed by We the People.

Democrats don't answer to their constituents.

But they pretend to. The bill doesn’t really need to have any benefits for their home districts, as long as they can lie and pretend that it does.

Boehner: Climate bill a 'pile of s--t'

izoneguy Saturday, June 27th at 11:04PM EDT (link)

Many dems who voted for this ‘pile of s–t’ may survive.

But the “De-Cap-at-8″ will more than likely lose there political careers.

Boehner: Climate bill a ‘pile of s–t’

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/boehner-climate-bill-a-pile-of-s–t-2009-06-27.html

Further, officials with the House GOP’s campaign arm, the National Republican Congressional Committee, confirm that they will run with paid media over recess in districts of conservative Dems who voted for the bill. The official would not reveal details on the ad buys at this time.

One Democrat was upset that his leaders would needlessly force vulnerable Dems to vote for a bill that will come back to haunt them. Mississippi Rep. Gene Taylor (D) voted against the measure that he says will die in the Senate.

“A lot of people walked the plank on a bill that will never become law,” Taylor told The Hill after the gavel came down.

wow, "You" made a major over-reach

JLenardDetroit Monday, June 29th at 4:15PM EDT (link)

(Ace, go back and read: jackACES comment The statement had ZERO to do with ANYTHING “YOU” said nor you at all….

Though it should not be surprising, to anyone, how you would turn something that I would be agreeing with you on — hence the “we have to go after them regardless of Party” — and find offense…

It is clear you are seeing the jackACES part of the comment and leaping to something…. Note the name of the Act A.C.E.S. Act … hence, why I call THOSE THAT VOTED FOR IT “jackACES”

I have taken a step back… but felt it beneficial to leave what I was originally writing in response as a “teachable moment” (added the strike-through) to others how things like this can and do get BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION…. and could/might escalate (others please refer to: be respectful, or be banned (the Diary)) if I responded equally rude in kind…. If I had just reacted to your comment and didn’t try and “understand” why/how you went off the handle! It is clear, after I re-read these a few times, you are under a big misunderstanding!!!!!

The fact the the INITIALS “A” “C” “E” “S” were there had nothing to do with you and you owe me an apology now. BUT, howver, I can see how if you were having a Bad Day might have come across that and read what WASN’T there solely because of the proximity to your Username.

I cannot find any redeeming value in why/how any Republican could really vote for this…. If there is a good reason, I want to hear it from one of the 8 (eight) jackACES (see, it applies to them because of the Act name)…. The “jackACES” was/is our normal Play On Words and Acronym usage.

You are right about my reading the A*C*E* as referring to me combined with our history leading to a wrong conclusion for which I do indeed apologize.

For what it’s worth…whether it had applied to me or not, I didn’t mean my comment to be as rude as you took it either…(one of the unfortunate consequences of blogging since you can’t see the smile in the eyes or get the elbow in the ribs denoting some ribbing involved even in disagreement)

The jackACES Eight....

JLenardDetroit Monday, June 29th at 5:21PM EDT (link)

First… exactly, another example of a mis-read that can get out of proportion and why I stopped, gathered my composure so as to not just strike back, re-read… etc… I could’ve re-wrote the entire thing, but again, I thought it a potential teachable moment for regulars as well as newbies that we can/do have bad days and need to seek clarifications of potential misunderstandings rather than creating Flame-wars and/or carrying Gurdges.

As for the topic at hand….
I’ve said elsewhere, don’t have link handy right now (another Diary on same topic, where I think I first coined the jackACES term), about how I am one of the few, and forever catch ENDLESS GRIEF, for insisting we try to maintain lines of Communication, room to “work-together,” etc… (Not gonna go back into all that but will put links below for those who want to go read for themselves those debates/discussions). However, in this case “I’m NOT feeling it.”

I really want one of the jackACES Eight to explain to us just ONE thing in that Monster that made it worthy of voting for!?!?! Really… Just one!?!?!? I want to give any of you jackACES an opportunity to tell me why I should stick by you despite the endless grief I know I would be getting for doing so?!?!?! Right now, I’m NOT GONNA DO IT - all 8 must get someone on their tail in a Primary (even if they don’t knock them off, using Primaries to build up future candidates).

I have also gone, in depth, of how “duplicity voting” on one Bill and/or Amendment over another relating to the exact same Legislation initiative in order to Play To Voters back home (see: CRA for one discussion of how that game is played) *OR* as some suggest the need to vote for something to garner support back home by voting for something you know won’t get enacted into Law…. IMO, they are pushing their luck, and playing Russian Roullette with our Economic (and everything else) future, that this won’t get passed in the Senate… They should NOT be taking any chances on something THIS BAD!!!!

This should have been left 100% solely a Democrat POS and with only the Democrats’ fingerprints on it!!!!

That certainly means I am more than happy to have them Primaried, but I certainly don’t want to play that same Russian Roullette with our future and let a Democrat get any of those seats. When no-one read it… when it contained so many things with ZERO to do with Climate…. etc… Really, what excuse was there to vote for it? I know some in MI were willing, IMO, to tradeoff promised GE jobs, GM Plant in Orion, etc.. (also, discussed at length elsewhere how/why some in MI may have been considering trading their vote)

Anyway… for anyone interested in those “side” discussions:
+sitting out elections banter - in depth Sit-It-Out discussion and the out-right vote for the other side (only one example of those comments)
+advocating voting for Dem if not 1st choice - one example here (and I respect him for being “honest” about it, others beat around the bush - and NO I’m not talking about ACE! we’ve covered comments made in frustration but unmeant)
+using Primaries to build up future candidates - using Primaries to build up future candidates
+working together - standing up about working together
+Media feeding R infighting - MSM uses snippets out of context to feed Republican in-fighting narrative additional commentary on that here (speaking out against SoSo discussion) and here

+Partial-Choicers work with us, a long discussion - How, when, where, PRO-LIFErs can/should work with PARTIAL-CHOICERS
+Bi-Partisan - again, Bi-Partisanship has really been Democrats joining with Republicans (here) and here and (here again) Brian’s Dems join Rep on Ethics issues and How 32 D’s joined R’s on HR2346 How about Dem’s join Republicans to stand for FREE Elections in Iran view too the jackACES Act (Clean Energy) 44 Dems Against while only 8 Reps for plus so many other times I don’t have articles links to.
+BLUE-ism - BLUE-ism
+Primary McLame - going at McCain in a Primary, finally
+Dem’s weak on crime - Dem’s weak on crime. Always!
+17th Amend/Elect Senators chg - repeal the 17th? YES please

+tidal-gen - Tidal power generation (finally)
+Earth 2100 - Earth 2100 TV special (Liberal propaganda)

The jackACES should NOT have provided cover for 8 other Democrats the chance to vote No….. They owe us an explination as to WHY they voted for it and let us determine if their “excuse” has any merit.

YO — jackACES Eight……

[from Conservative Candidates (the Diary)]
the “Republican Revolution” of the 90’s was mis-labeled, it was really the “CONSERVATIVE Revolution” and it brought Republicans to power; likewise, it was the “Reagan Conservative” Revolution, not a Republican Revolution. Many Republicans forgot that along the way. That led the way for CINO Democrats to lie their way back into power, but it was a “Conservative” co-opted (read: they lied about their intent) that voters allowed themselves to be duped into. Republicans need to REMEMBER that! Conservatism did NOT lose Elections, bad Politicians (with R’s beside their name) did!

Ace, I am curious on this though (as well as Erick weighing in)....

JLenardDetroit Monday, June 29th at 6:03PM EDT (link)

whether since Erick is still backing Kirk (Erick Erickson’s FP Diary: “Good” if you’re going to give him a hard time about it?!?!?

I do still say we cannot throw EVERYONE under the Bus that does NOT vote 100% correctly to the GOP (still Conservative) Platform or what-not. But, again, I do agree - this Vote seemed like an absolute no-brainer and I still want an answer from someone on ONE THING that made it worth voting for?!?!?

We each have our own definition of what are the “items” they must be 100% before we want to toss them. And anyone that wants to say there still aren’t any 100%ers around us here at RedState they haven’t read the links I’ve referred to above. And I’m still waiting on just what % (and percent of/from what, Platform I suppose) is okay before we leave Red-Dog and go into RINO?!?!? Before peeps give me grief yet again…. I’d love to have only a Party of 100%ers, but it ain’t gonna EVER happen no matter how many advocates/activists we have because of Blue/Purple areas - we can/should demand/work-for “as best we can” getting Conservatives first and foremost as many places as possible — espeically up and into Party Leadership.

with us…that’s never been a consideration even amongst the most extreme of us on the Conservative VS RINO divide…these guys all have a history…

Do I disagree with Erick on Kirk?

You can bet your spiked heels and fish nets on it!

Kirk has a history as do the rest of these clowns…that’s what’s so frustrating because you and others act surprised because they reverted to form on this vote…there is nothing new here aside from the fact that it was you that finally got hit with cold water!

He’s an Enviro Wacko and always has been…he couldn’t vote any other way without betraying who he is…and betraying the principles he holds dear…(which I might add, We’re not supposed to have principles for the sake of the tent!)

He brags on his website with links calling him the “Greenest Republican in Congress”, He’s a consistent vote against ANWR and opening up proven oil reserves in the USA. he voted for the prescription drug benefit program, funneled billions of federal pork to build up public transit in his district,

From On the Issues:

Voted NO on tax incentives for energy production and conservation. (May 2008)

Voted YES on tax incentives for renewable energy. (Feb 2008)

Voted YES on investing in homegrown biofuel. (Aug 2007)

Voted YES on removing oil & gas exploration subsidies. (Jan 2007)

Voted YES on keeping moratorium on drilling for oil offshore. (Jun 2006)

Voted YES on scheduling permitting for new oil refinieries. (Jun 2006)

Voted YES on authorizing construction of new oil refineries. (Oct 2005)

Voted NO on passage of the Bush Administration national energy policy. (Jun 2004)

Voted NO on implementing Bush-Cheney national energy policy. (Nov 2003)

Voted YES on raising CAFE standards; incentives for alternative fuels. (Aug 2001)

Voted YES on prohibiting oil drilling & development in ANWR. (Aug 2001)

In short, He’s an Al Gore type of Enviro NUT!!!

Kirk is a member of the RMSP and is one of the very people I spend so much time railing against!

He is co-chair of the Moderate Republican “Tuesday Group”, Which is a group of Republicrats who meet every week to plan their collaboration with the Dummycrats>

Kirk is also a member most liberal Republican groups such as the Republican Majority for Choice, Republicans for Choice, the Republican Leadership Council, and Republicans for Environmental Protection….

He’s busy right now helping to shape an Obama light version of socialized medicine.

He scores a 42% in 2008 and 32% in 2007 with the Club for Growth.

He has an ACU lifetime rating of 55% with his numbers in 2008 being 48% in an election year…and 40% in 2007 a non election year…

He has a D rating with the NRA on Gun control issues. He’s favored extending the Brady bill, closing the “gun show Loophole” backed federal laws requiring trigger locks and opposed protecting gun manufacturers from lawsuits.

He backed Campaign Finance Reform.

He has a pushed for federal spending programs on stem cell research and co-sponsored three bills in support of international family planning, H.R. 755, H.R. 1117 and H.R. 3916 and was named ‘Legislator of the Month’ by The Population Institute for April 2002.

He supports Increased funding, (with US Tax Dollars) for international HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, increased family planning funding for the United Nations Population Fund!

He voted no on prohibiting minors from being transported across state lines to receive abortions.

Voted no on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.

Has a 100% rating from the Abortion Rights Action League making him a Ted Kennedy kind of Republican!

Favors Hate Crimes legislation

I could go on and on…my only question about this guy is…what makes hi9m a Republican in the first place?

The question remains, what percentage then is acceptable or too far?!?!?

Simple question… everyone shouts: I’M NOT A 100%er but has no % or explination beyond that. ALMOST ALL OF US HERE AT RS AGREE WE NEED BETTER CANDIDATES!!!!!

I don’t know… perhaps 70% for me….. but when push comes to shove on Election day and we have little choice but who is on the General Election ballot - I remind: How electing ANY Democrat empowers the antithesis of Conservativism, the Ultra-Far-Left Progressive/Socialist/Democrats and we HATE when any “R” aids the Democrat/Liberal Incrementalism.

it's not even a matter of percentages

kyle8 Tuesday, June 30th at 11:59AM EDT (link)

It is not so much whether someone is a total conservative, or a partial one, or just a fiscal one or whatever. It has to do with party unity.

McCain and Graham are not liberals by any means, but they do harm to the party because whenever there is a BIG issue that requires some party solidarity and responsibility they are out there trying to cut a special deal and make a name for themselves.

or like this cap and trade vote. This was very important that it not come off as bi-partisan. But the eight jackasses who just had to screw their own party as well as the public have nothing to fear, because we have been too wimpy in enforcing any party loyalty.

Focus

kygater Saturday, June 27th at 11:44PM EDT (link)

While we need to focus now on the Senate, we cannot forget for a second who can be bought and paid for in the House either. At a time when our country is at a crossroads in its economy, these self-serving non-representatives were busy making deals that would look good for their political careers rather than doing what was best for the country. We can never forget that!

I don't get why you lumped Connie Mack in with the tr8ters

Dave_in_Fla Sunday, June 28th at 8:23AM EDT (link)

He voted against this abomination and has been pretty reliable conservative vote. He also worked hard getting his district neighbors (Rooney and Buchannen) elected. If we also start demanding he influence his wife’s vote, that opens up a big Pandora’s box. The fault in Mary Bono Mack’s case are the voters in her district, they didn’t apply enough pressure, or pressure in support because they are a bunch of tree hugging rich California morons. GOP leadership in Palm Springs is to blame here, especially since she has a conservative rating of 79 (unlike the rest of the 8 that average around 30).

Pushing Connie Mack is a bad idea.

So how is the Wordpress app? I assume that is what you are testing.

I’m in California all the time for work, I keep waiting for the anti-environmental backlash over the destructive restrictions that contribute to things like water shortages in the farming communities. Were any of these 8 really vulnerable for reelection? Was this YES vote in any way necessary?

Don’t some of these folks represent crunchy districts, with plenty of eco-focused constituents?

If so, might this vote have been sound tactical politics on their part?

If you know the bill (in its current form) will never make it into law, what’s the harm in casting a vote you can use to mollify your Mother Jones voters back home?

principle? Nothing can redeem or justify what these 8 idiots did. Your notion that it’s okay if it gets them some votes is just so wrong that it makes me dizzy.

I know politics is war and it is often messy, but there were bright lines drawn across this one and the 8 crossed them willingly for personal gain, not out of ideological belief. They couldn’t have–NO ONE READ THE BILL BEFORE VOTING ON IT.

If voting NO made these Rs vulnerable in 2010...there's your harm.

Smagar, granted your

statement that representatives voting yes were trying to save a seat in the house is true. Where I differ is on the practical impact, given that Obama has won every battle thus far. Far worse is the philosophical, political and self-serving traitorousness of their votes. Whether the Republican party will be known as the party of smaller, less intrusive government has here been knocked down a peg. Did these districts want to send someone to Washington DC so they could have the economy crippled and their taxes increased?

These 8 have stood strong for bigger, more intrusive government.

These 8 have bargained away freedom and its accompanying prosperity and liberty on a gamble that the Senate will act any differently than they. They essentially bought a substitute for the civil war because they couldn’t face getting shot at.

It is time to rid ourselves of these boorish pests. Begone!

There was no upside anywhere in the votes of these 8, unless the outrage it has caused will serve as a suitable early warning system to our beloved Senators when this mess lands on their desks.

Or not, come to think of it. It’s not like anyone who voted for this had a copy on THEIR desks, now did they? And that’s the other betrayal here, that 219 unprincipled politicians voted a big old “Yea” on something totally unknown. One of these days, we need to figure out how to slip something in a bill that calls for every single legislator to forfeit their right to their yummy eternal health plan and pension and be willing to accept exactly what their constituents have to live with and not a penny more.

Have you gotten that directly from someone in the know? And if so, any plans to actually *do* something about it?

Not trying to be snarky here in any way, shape or form. I have seen so many times when these so-called ‘moderates’ have provided the margin of victory on some piece of horrific legislation but I have yet to see them ‘disciplined’ by the party leadership in *any* form - meaningful *or* inconsequential.

I wrote to Congressman Gonzalez (TX-20-D) twice letting him know I was against Cap and Tax but since his nose is tiedto Pelosi’s butt I knew he would vote “Aye”. But just in case you don’t believe energy cost are going up here is part of his response.

As a San Antonian, I understand the importance and value of our local industries. I worked with the Committee to ensure that CPS Energy, our local electricity distribution company, would not only be eligible for a free allocation of credits, but would also be allowed to receive these for their new plant which is expected to come on-line within the next few years. These allocations will be essential in maintaining low rates for customers, especially those struggling financially. Other industries, such as manufacturers and refiners, will also receive allowances that will help them through a finite transition period as we move toward cleaner energy production and usage.

Notice in the last sentence “help them through a finite transition period”, get ready to pay more for less.
