For sure Patrick Murphy needs to go. He doesn’t represent this district by a long shot. He is a Pelosi lap dog and votes with her 99% of the time. In fact, I am still looking for a vote where he didn’t vote with her so my guess more like 100%.

Murphy already has a watch page here:

After receiving the call out by several radio talk show hosts to contact local Representatives to vote NO on the Cap and Trade bill, I, who normally sit on the sidelines, charged up my cell phone for the blitz. My local is that snotty Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, however, I was calling everyone in the state including Patrick Murphy. After the tabulations of the vote and we only lost by 7 votes, I then began the angry and disappointed faxes. To my dismay, on Murphy’s home page you are barred from contacting him if you are not in his district. This made my blood boil because his vote not only affected his constituents but the rest of the country. Anyone can circumvent that by getting an address in his district, obtaining a zip+4 code from the postal service and blasting his can out of the water. After writing the letter, I excoriated him for his arrogance and distain for the remainder of the nation’s citizens in not allowing them to voice their displeasure on his voting history. I dare him to consider himself a Blue Dog Democrat. As you have rightly labeled Murphy “Pelosi’s “Lap” Dog. These are my sentiments to the tee.
Thanks for the link to the watch page.

Thanks mecat212

marysue Monday, June 29th at 12:11AM EDT (link)

My sympathies to you for having Allyson Schwartz to contend with though I think I would take snotty responses as opposed to Murphy’s non-response. Living in his district I was able to contact him and bypass his ridiculous zip+4 roadblock. He doesn’t even bother to respond with even the pro-forma thanks for your interest and opinion but screw you response.

Murphy was indoctrinated in the ways of political corruption in record time. Pelosi sets him up as a co-sponsor for 395 bills so he can claim successful legislation being passed as well as position him as a moderate democrat based on sponsorship rather than his horrific voting record. See analysis here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=412233

He is getting an exorbitant amount of campaign funding as a reward for his loyalty as well. Whoever runs against him in 2010 is going to need to get some serious support to counter this 2nd term Congressman’s remarkable ability to raise money. See Murphy’s fund raising record compared to average Congressmen
here:
http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N00027594

PA-8 is a center/right leaning district yet Murphy thinks he is representing San Francisco. The voter’s in this district need to wake up but will likely need to have this spelled out for them by a well funded and organized campaign against Murphy. The case is easily made against him as he doesn’t he even try and cover himself by voting on the rarest occasions with blue dogs, he just flat out seems to think he is invulnerable.

mecat212 Monday, June 29th at 4:27PM EDT (link)

Thanks again, marysue. I went to the Patrick Murphy Watch Page and contacted the web masters with my letter to Murphy and the disturbing inability to contact him from a national point of view.
I also went to all of the links you offered and compared them with Allyson Schwartz’s. Could not contain my ire. What a bunch of on the make and take reps.
Well, I can only continue with my barrage of calls, letters and faxes. The only good laugh that I am getting out of this is the annoyance from the libs on my street when they see what is coming down the pike. Hummmm, not the change they voted for.

He may be entrenched, but he’s in a district rated D+1, so potentially vulnerable. It is also a big agricultural district, so this vote could be used to hurt him.

Considering what they’ve done to the whole country, it would serve them right to have to pay taxes to house me, feed me, and keep me healthy on their dimes while they prevent me from doing any meaningful work to pay my own way.

We’ve got a great, young Iraqi war veteran, Jesse Kelly, running as a Republican. Duncan Hunter has just spent the weekend in Tucson fund raising for Jesse. Say good-bye, Gabby.

More on Jesse Kelly...

His website is here

Republican for Arizona’s Eighth District

Duncan Hunter visit - for details on the Duncan Hunter fundraisers please visit the EVENTS page of the web site.

Congress must get spending under control. Our nation did not become great through the interference and control of a centralized government in Washington. It is precisely the lack of an intrusive government that has given Americans the freedom to build our great nation.

The trillions in spending to facilitate government expansion must stop. The bailouts must stop. Taxes must remain low for all Americans and Arizona businesses alike.

For too long our borders have remained unsecured with drugs and violence pouring in at an alarming rate. Southern Arizona has seen its crime rise dramatically while politicians in Washington do nothing but talk.

Unnecessarily high health care costs are crippling small businesses. Tort reform must begin now in order to bring health care costs under control.

The ever expanding government bureaucracy conveys too much power into the hands of unelected individuals. We need leadership in Washington that is not beholden to special interest groups or swayed by the political appeal of earmarks.

We need someone who represents Arizona first. We need a leader in Congress who understands small businesses, fiscal responsibility, and the importance of individual liberty. Jesse Kelly is that leader.

Send a Warrior to Congress!

mbecker, you're still on the ground in AZ. When I lived in Phoenix

in the 80s and 90s this district was always kinda purple and was represented by the rather moderate John Kolbe (think it was the 6rh but my memory, it ain’t so good anymore).

Have all the added districts and the resultant redistricting made this a redder area. I know it used to include parts of Tucson (w/Pastor’s district taking the bulk of the much more liberal vis-a-vis Phoenix Tucson metro area). Does it still? Any hope for an at least 80% ACU conservative in that district?

I really think probably not. But...

mbecker908 Sunday, June 28th at 8:31PM EDT (link)

The CD is fairly heavily influenced by the UofA in Tucson (waaaaaaaaaaay left) and is heavily non-Anglo. The bottom line, in my estimation (and I’m absolutely guessing) is that he’s got a difficult job ahead of him.

On the plus side, the incumbent is a first-termer. The Democratic Party organization in AZ is on life support.

McCain is running in ‘10, it’ll be interesting to see if he campaigns with Jesse or at least actively supports him. I’m guessing he won’t. The election will likely come down to turnout and we have nothing going on on either side of the divide in ‘10 that will drive turnout. Nobody of note is going to run against McCain, the Ds don’t really have a credible candidate for Gov (neither do the Rs) and there are no exciting ballot initiatives.

So, it’s a long shot but I think Jesse might have an outside shot. Anybody out there who lives in Tucson have been info???

Personally, I’d rather have her than Jan Brewer. She’s Crist in drag. If it weren’t for an open revolt by freshman Rs in the state house we’d have a bunch of new taxes and no spending cuts to speak of. Jan sucks. Big time.

I’m in CD 6, John Shadegg is my Rep. Basically, more or less north west central Phoenix. Jon Kyl is my Senator. McCain may run for reelection in AZ but he represents the transient interests in Washington DC. And his daughter really sucks. Thank God his sons are Navy and Marines.

milquetoast type personality…not a whole lot of conservative oomph but enug to get the job done after Rose ‘Beehive’ Mofford took over for Evan Meecham.

Guess I can’t say it surprises me.

At least you got one of the best of the best in Shadegg. Had the privilege of having Matt Salmon for my Congressman before I left and previous that it was good ol’ Johnny Mac when he was still a conservative (or at least felt he *had* to be one because he was in such a Red District)

Succession in AZ is a real problem.

mbecker908 Sunday, June 28th at 11:32PM EDT (link)

We don’t have a LtGov so in the absence of the Gov the SoS becomes Gov. It’s happened three times in recent history and it’s been a moderate disaster every time.

Rose Mofford, Jane Hull and now Jan Brewer. Ick, ick and more ick. The problem is that SoS is a low profile administrative job with no real executive responsibility. Lose the Gov and you get a second rate paper shuffler. Oh, and the folks here don’t pay a whole hell of a lot of attention to the Gov so they get reelected. Ick.

I am a Tucsonan, and Giffords is my Congresswoman

smagar Sunday, June 28th at 9:54PM EDT (link)

She’s really good at flying below the radar, aided by a Tucson media that might as well work for the Democratic Party.

If Jesse Kelly’s primary claim to the seat is his being an Iraq War veteran, he shouldn’t pack his bags for Washington.

Wherever Congresswoman Giffords goes in her district, she’s flanked by retired generals, for gravitas.

She is married to an astronaut, and runs ads pointing out that she is the only Congresswoman married to an active duty serviceman.

She is well-funded (and well-coached) from the national Democratic party.

She is very good to her district, especially the military bases.

Her votes for Porkulus and the Cap & Trade bill (in contrast to Mitchell and Kirkpatrick, Arizona’s other D Congresscritters holding formerly R seats) leads me to think that Giffords feels pretty safe right now.

Jesse Kelly is the second person I’ve heard to be running for the R nomination for CD 8th. As far as I can tell, neither has much of a track record in southern Arizona politics.

I don’t see how a relative nobody beats Giffords for the seat, save a massive anti-Dem tidal wave a la 1994. I don’t see how an unknown R gets people’s attention around here. The local media will starve him of oxygen. Giffords will ignore him and the Tucson media will assist. (I’m expecting that the local R candidate will be way outspent).

My 0.02…

I Agree

JX12 Sunday, June 28th at 11:40PM EDT (link)

I live in Phoenix now, but lived in Tucson about twenty years ago. If it’s anything like it was then (something like 2 to 1 Democrat - radical Democrat at that), then Jesse Kelly’s record of military service - sad to say - could actually hurt him with the electorate in that part of the district, not help him.

Yes, I know a Republican (Jim Kolbe) represented the district for something like 22 years, but he is, to date, the only Republican in the history of Arizona to represent that district, and he did not exactly have a reputation as a rock-ribbed conservative anyway. I don’t think the subsequent redistricting after the 2000 census necessarily made it any redder - it’s still purple at best.

At any rate, I applaud Jesse Kelly for running. We need more like him, and - if dissatisfaction with the Democrats hits a fever pitch in 2010 (which it very well could when some of their policies start coming home to roost) - then he stands a very good chance of unseating Giffords, Tucson or no Tucson.

Go Jesse. Take it to her.

Keeep an eye on VA-05

johnCV Sunday, June 28th at 6:25PM EDT (link)

Perriello won by about 700 votes (many of which were ‘found’ in the city of Charlottesville) in a traditionally red district (though liberal northerners have been changing that dynamic for a while).
The fact that Perriello voted for every obama/pelosi/reid POS Bill to come along will not serve him well.
A challenger just announced for the R primary (can’t find any links yet) that appears to be a very strong fiscal conservative.

Perriello should be very afraid.

johnCV- VA 5th is one to watch

Scope Sunday, June 28th at 7:49PM EDT (link)

Charlottesville was at one time a reliably Red District, it is no longer. Charlottesville is wih no doubt, a Big Government bastion, with some of the main employers being, UVA (as in Larry Sabato), The Army Corp of Engineers, right next to the Army National Guard Intelligence Center, Northrup Gruman and General Dynamics ( a major international Government Contractor). Yes, it wasn’t bad enough that the Libs from up north (many, many fron NY moved here in their retirement) brought their Liberal values with them, the Federal Government has also taken over the city.

The race between Perriello and Goode was surely stolen by the Democrats (ACORN).

http://www.readthehook.com/blog/index.php/2008/11/06/goode-defeats-perriello-by-446-votes/

Goode had claimed that the Democrats had targeted him in the 5th district race, and it’s obvious they have. Why, because he was against Perriello’s tax increases, promises of GREEN jobs for everyone in the district, and Perriello campaigned on his GREEN initiatives. No surprise that he voted for Crap and Tax. The post here that he wanted to vote against Crap and Tax, but was waiting to see what happened was ludicrous, not from the poster, but from the info. he got. I called his office several times and could not get through. I finally got a message machine and left the message that I would do everything in my power to make sure the residents of Charlottesville knew how far left he was, and how he was destroying every freedom and right they had, and I vow that I will.

Here’s an article from Goode, back then-

Goode: Fifth District race targeted by Democrats

http://www.the franklinnewspost.com/article?ID=11509

There are many many jobs advertised in the local paper that advertise jobs for a variety of Community Organizations. It’s really sad that I now look at every Community Organization as an ACORN affilate or type. That’s a diary that someone surely needs to write. GC, are you up to it? You do it best!

Timeless Reaganite Wisdom...

reaganiterepublicanresistance Sunday, June 28th at 6:37PM EDT (link)

Obama claimed that the average American would not bear the brunt of this historic tax-increase: he stated that instead ““It is paid for by the polluters who currently emit dangerous carbon emissions.”

Just compare this outrageous falsehood to Ronald Reagans’ famous quote:
“The most dangerous myth is the demagoguery that business can be made to pay a larger share, thus relieving the individual. Politicians preaching this are either deliberately dishonest, or economically illiterate, and either one should scare us.

“Business doesn’t pay taxes, and who better than business to make this message known? Only people pay taxes, and people pay as consumers every tax that is assessed against a business.”

And after the way the rammed this through the House with little debate, without legislators even reading it… and while quarantining the GOP from any meaningful input whatsoever, any foolhardy individuals who still believe Obama’s threadbare “bipartisanship” spiel ought to have their head examined.

Cap & Trade building codes

I heard on Mark Levin’s show that the CAT bill included a nationalization of CA’s stringent building codes.

So, when that drives up the price of housing will Barney Frank whine and complain about the lack of affordable housing? And when someone points out for him that it was CAT that was responsible what will his answer be? The GOP made me do it!

From Behind Enamy Lines

4deuce Monday, June 29th at 9:29AM EDT (link)

Being a Marylander and resident of Montgomery County, I should have at least been considered for a supporting role in the film, Behind Enemy Lines. There is no Republican in any elected offices in either my county or the one adjacent to it. Our last Republican congresswoman, the liberal Connie Morella, was finally ousted after the Dem majority here redrew her congressional district lines and now we have voters a tankful of gas removed from the voters she used to represent. Thanks Maryland Dems, so much, for your concept of representative government.

Because any effort on my part to resist the continued Democratic right of ascension here in my region of Maryland is so utterly impossible, I have no choice other than to find an out-of-state Republican or two to support financially in their quests for election in some other battleground. Virginia seems a good choice and I hear that Senators Webb and Warner are under duress to resist this cap-and-trade nightmare of politics disguised as science. When I write to these senators and appeal to them to vote No on cap-and-trade in the Senate, they will certainly want to ignore an out-of-state opinion that runs contrary to Obamaism. But when I tell then they ignore me at their own political peril – because if they do so, I will active support their future Republican opponents with out-of-state money, perhaps my voice will suddenly be heard. Not only will I undertake such funding of out-of-state Republican candidates (real Republicans, not RINO pretenders), I will encourage those in my sphere of influence to do so too. There is no alternative for me. I am not being heard. In fact, all I am doing in Maryland is being lied to.

California Nows Rules America

4deuce Monday, June 29th at 9:37AM EDT (link)

About a month ago, The Feds forced CA auto mileage cafe standards down everyone’s throats. Friday they did the same with CA building standards and home energy ratings. California law is now the dominant force in shaping US economic policy.

But California is a state now officially holding pauper status and with no more economic stature than lawless, war torn Somalia? California, a state with a gluttonous appetite for spending, is the perfect example of economic utopianism crashing headlong into the immovable bulk of economic reality and of not spending way, way, way beyond your means, for decades, without ultimately suffering utter economic exhaustion and complete collapse.

And now our Congress and President advocate that all of America emulate California’s form of governance? I’d rather take bartending tips from Revered Jim Jones then adopt Obama’s and House Democrats’ view of Californai as a role model for governance. Talk about the inmates taking over the asylum. We are living it happening before our eyes.
