In all honesty, I haven't been this furious at RedState
peg_c Friday, July 3rd at 8:18PM EDT (link)since the night Fred dropped out and this turned into a nastyfest I still have not gotten over. I’m not leaving but I’m miserably disappointed in the folks here.
Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.
Why exactly?
Erick Erickson Friday, July 3rd at 8:21PM EDT (link)Josh thinks she is gearing up for 2012. I think she is gearing up to be leader of the opposition, but won’t be running for President.
It’s a difference of opinion.
Who will stand on either hand and keep this bridge with me?
Oh, please.
bs Friday, July 3rd at 8:24PM EDT (link)There is not a soul in the team of RS contributors who is saying anything mean and nasty about Palin. Many of us believe she’s cut her own throat for running in the future, but this is simply being realistic and voicing an opinion. Sorry you don’t concur.
Ann Carmichael is reflecting the same quitting attitude that Palin appears to be displaying. At least Painter is putting up a good argument. I admire him for his tenacity. (I don’t necessarily believe what he’s saying, but he’s doing a good job of not losing it, as Ms. Carmichael has).

mbecker908 Friday, July 3rd at 8:29PM EDT (link)Josh is the only Palinbot who even attempts - and he usually succeeds - at making a rational argument. My only real issue with Governor Palin - and it’s not her doing, not her fault and she can’t fix it - is the idiots she’s attracted on the order of RonPaul’s merry band of jerks.
I agree with the Directors
Neil Stevens Friday, July 3rd at 9:38PM EDT (link)If the person you’re a fan of can do no wrong, you need to step back and think.
It was true of Fred Thompson, and it’s true of Sarah Palin.
Take a step back and think if you feel the need to lash out at your *friends* for disagreeing about her.

IJB Friday, July 3rd at 8:18PM EDT (link)I can understand why Palin backers are peeved right now.
But she’s not the only gunslinger out there.
And 2010 is before 2012 anyway.
She's no gunslinger. Never was. Never will be. nt
mbecker908 Friday, July 3rd at 8:25PM EDT (link)FTR, I Don't Necessarily Agree With That
IJB Friday, July 3rd at 8:32PM EDT (link)I’m still pretty neutral on Palin - I think Art and AKSteve have some points about her that I want to hear, but I also take some of the specifics of those with a grain of salt. Meanwhile, I think the pro-Palin people are right about some of her positive qualities, even if their case of “unbridled enthusiasm”** caused them to often go overboard about her.
At the least, she has the *potential* to be a gunslinger.
What I do think is that she’s done for 2012, and probably 2016 (one way or the other) too. Beyond that?… Who knows.
**Bonus if anyone gets the reference…
Well, as Cort used to say ...
SoulEspresso Friday, July 3rd at 8:51PM EDT (link)“Fault always lies in the same place, my fine babies: with him weak enough to lay blame.”
Go, then, Sarah … there are other worlds than … that of the governor’s office.
mbecker, your hostility is intriguing
peg_c Friday, July 3rd at 8:33PM EDT (link)You seem really, really peeved, irate, disgusted, or all of the above.
Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.
None of the above. I have absolutely no hostility
mbecker908 Friday, July 3rd at 8:54PM EDT (link)toward Governor Palin whatsoever. I honestly don’t care about her one way or the other right now. I do think she had some potential as a national candidate, but she’s not really shown much in the way of executive ability as Governor. She showed plenty of ability to execute to get there, but not much in the way of “real” accomplishment since.
I agree with IJB, she has shown some *potential* but the roadsides are littered with people who have potential.
I’ll say once again, the battle is in DC, stopping Obama, and beyond that it’s 2010. Period. I think Governor Palin has been made into a major distraction by the media and by idiots like Gary here at RS. And, I am sorry to see her step down. I was hoping she’d run again and win. She would have been a much more credible candidate. I think she can be a credible fund raiser and a credible “helper” (whatever that might be), but my opinion is that as a candidate she just committed suicide.
So we can count on your vote for 2012

randy streu Friday, July 3rd at 10:18PM EDT (link)you weren’t, with your above statement (to which I was commenting) make a reference to 2010. AT ALL. The point is the same. If SarahPAC or whoever is going to work toward 2010, GREAT. Let’s focus on that.
People keep focusing on 2012 (like you did above) as though it even matters right now. And now to make the suggestion that just because her PAC may or may not have an impact on 2010, that she DESERVES a 2012 vote? Gimme a break.

Tell ya what putz. Write something of substance and we’ll see how it stands up. You’ve been the queen of one liners so far, but you’ve not bothered with one little tidbit of factual material, nary a single projection or estimate based on stated assumptions, you’ve done absolutely nothing but sit in your little ash heap, scrape your boils with broken dishes and throw ash in the air.
I personally find it humorous that you’d throw a pebble at Art, Neil, Randy and me in the same thread. And all in under 50 words.
I really can’t wait for you to put up something of substance - and that would be a diary of more than 150 words with links. Please do it on a slow weekend.

:sigh: You haven't defended yourself yet.
randy streu Saturday, July 4th at 12:56AM EDT (link)each of your point (and yes, the singular is intentional) have been met with multiple counterpoints.
The big picture here is that you’re failing to see the big picture. I, myself, thought Palin was a good addition to the McCain candidacy. To be sure, the only worthwile addition (and that includes McCain himself). But this dwelling on 2012 is getting ridiculous. You want to be taken seriously? Start by getting serious.

mbecker908 Saturday, July 4th at 1:06AM EDT (link)I really think the thing that has “made” Governor Palin was just how bad McCain is. She is fantastic next to him. In absolutely EVERY way. The problem is that people have built a presumption about her that she couldn’t live up to in ten lifetimes.

discerningconservative Saturday, July 4th at 1:09AM EDT (link)And doing a damn poor job of it too.
mbecker908 Saturday, July 4th at 1:01AM EDT (link)Now then, how about that diary of substance. Or do you even know 150 words.
I don’t get “my” panties twisted up at the mention of Governor Palin and I don’t recall ever having taken a shot at Josh. Of course, Josh does tend to put some thought into his posts even when he’s off base.
I’ve said a hundred times that I have no problem with Governor Palin but that now is not the time that we should be spending time and effort flacking for a presidential candidate in ‘12. At the rate we’re going, there may be nothing to discuss in ‘12 unless we stop the Ds now and make up some ground in ‘10. I’ve said over and over that the Governor could be a credible candidate come primary time and that we’d have to wait and see what her performance as Governor looked like before making a decision. Along with, of course, what her actual stance on the issues is - and what the issues are.
My “problem” is with idiots like you and Gary and a few other people who show up here and do nothing but flack for the Governor, you frequently get your facts totally wrong and are generally ignorant when attempting to discuss Alaska politics. (For the record, I’m ignorant about AK politics but then again I don’t make rash statements about AK politics either.)
I would be more than happy to simply deconstruct some sort of argument you’ve made, but then again, you’ve never made one.
Oh, and
mbecker908 Saturday, July 4th at 12:42AM EDT (link)that would be “you’re” not your.
“You’re” is the contraction form of “you are”. Your is a possessive used for something that belongs to the “you” in question. Like when I talked about the rocks in “your” head.
I would further clarify by noting the usage of “you’re” would include something like me saying, “Hey panchita, you’re an idiot.”
Wonderful thing language. Go to a community college, take a couple of English courses.

And while we’re at it, in that same tired little effort, your sentence structure was extraordinarily deficient.

Achance Saturday, July 4th at 1:49AM EDT (link)It’s late, I’m going to go watch the fireworks and I really don’t want to be bothered with idiots. Give me 250 or more words on what Sarah Palin has actually accomplished as governor of Alaska and we’ll have something to talk about. One qualifier; if that list of accomplishments comes from her press releases, you best be prepared to back up what you say. Now I actually don’t expect to hear from you, at least not with anything intelligent, but it might make for an interesting digression, so lay on.

Happy Glorious 4th ‘becker! We always have our fireworks at midnight of the 3rd/4th and SWMBO and I went last night. This time a year it doesn’t get completely dark at night and midnight is a deep twilight with the northern sky still quite light - the Sun rises and sets in the north this time of year. Anyway, it was clear, warm by Alaska standards, and absolutely beautiful last night. The fireworks are set off from a barge out in the Downtown Juneau harbor. Downtown Juneau is completely surrounded by mountains from 2K to 4K or so feet, there was no wind so Gastineau Channel was like a sheet of glass that reflected all the fireworks and the mountains caused the reports to echo back and forth. The fireworks themselves aren’t quite up to DisneyWorld closing standards or the big shows in NYC or DC, but they put on a good half hour or so show Anyway, it was a great show even if the price is an hour in bumper to bumper traffic to get home at 2am. I’m too old for much of that 2 am stuff, so I’m feeling my late night this morning.

mbecker908 Saturday, July 4th at 12:10PM EDT (link)I wouldn’t even attempt 2am.
Well, I did take a nap after dinner
Achance Saturday, July 4th at 12:25PM EDT (link)before we went to the fireworks. We spent all afternoon giving dead herring a luxury Southeast Alaska cruise, didn’t catch any fish, but the sun and warm was nice. There was a lot of traffic so a lot of boat wakes. If you’ve never done it, you don’t realize how tired you get just from standing on a constantly moving boat, i needed that nap!

Hey, Last Week It Was Those of Us Who Liked Sanford...
IJB Friday, July 3rd at 8:34PM EDT (link)…This week, it’s your gal’s turn.
Next week, it’ll be someone else’s turn.
(And, FTR, I’m not convinced that Sanford’s really “done” anymore than Palin is. It’ll probably just take some time for both to come back from this…)
I was cool on Sanford
peg_c Friday, July 3rd at 8:41PM EDT (link)I deferred to those who really knew him and what he was about. Apparently no one really knew him. Dan McLaughlin pretty well sums up my opinion on Sanford - he was important to the movement at this time and what he did was an utter betrayal.
We’ve yet to see what Palin does. So far she was the only elected Republican with her head not up her hiney who was strong enough (for a while) to take the depravity of the Democrats (pardon the redundancy) and remain standing and proud. She may have done this, whatever this is, as much to take the heat and vile attention off her innocent kids as anything else; maybe to make money also; maybe to huddle with Fred. I hope. We’ll see. I won’t throw a hissy fit. I’m just ultimately worried our party cannot come up with someone to take on Obama and the Depraved Party. This is all I care about.
BTW I don’t think Sanford is coming back. His brain seems to have left the building.

katesmith Friday, July 3rd at 8:51PM EDT (link)I didn’t realize that if you liked Sarah Palin you were therefore in a cult of personality. The assumption she won’t run for office is only one issue. My bigger issue is no one but Beltway types remain and they are all sell-outs. They’ve all had their chance to prove otherwise and have failed time and again. There are only John McCain types left–that worked out well didn’t it? Pro cap and trade, pro illegals. Why not just fold the party now?
I think it is unfortunate.....
marshmom Friday, July 3rd at 9:13PM EDT (link)because I really like Sarah Palin. I think she’s truly down to earth and a very good leader. I feel badly for the people of Alaska that, because of the liberal witch hunt, they will no longer have such a fine governor.
As much as I think she would’ve loved to have stuck it out and been a thorn in the left’s side, as a mother, she had to do what was right for her children and her family as a whole. I don’t blame her for that.
I also believe that she was convinced she was doing a disservice to the Alaskan people when she found herself spending more time beating down false allegations and childish vilification than she did serving her constituents.
If you want to blame someone, blame the left wing media and their brain-dead followers.
I truly hope that she does find a place to use her talents to help defeat Obama in 2012. We can’t afford to lose a true conservative like her, especially when so many conservatives like and support her.
I really hate it. Now the smug, elitist demons of the liberal community will give themselves the credit for running her out of office. That should be our motivation to to make sure they get what they deserve.

One reason I would love to see her succeed, at whatever she does, is that it drives the Liberals and the MSM mad. The haters miss GWB so much they need to find someone else to target with their venom.

azaeroprof Friday, July 3rd at 9:34PM EDT (link)yes, Ron Paul’s idiotic supporters are kooks, but mainly because Ron Paul is a kook! I thought that the ability to get people to REALLY LIKE YOU is a positive thing in politics. Only a very small minority of people care about the details of political philosophy as much as us at RedState. Almost all the rest will like or dislike candidates in ways that we may seem as unthinking or irrational. So some of you are throwing under the bus the ONE PERSON that we have that can get a huge number of people to like her in that way. And remember, we have to beat BHO in 2012. You really think we can do that without having a candidate that generates the kind of emotion that he generates in the kool-aid drinkers???
Disgusting and sad.

Was the left rallying around BHO in 2005? Do we really need our candidate defined in 2009? We need to worry about 2010 elections before we look for our “perfect candidate” for 2012. We have plenty of time, and I have a feeling that it will end up being someone that none of us are talking about now.
