before we went to the fireworks. We spent all afternoon giving dead herring a luxury Southeast Alaska cruise, didn't catch any fish, but the sun and warm was nice. There was a lot of traffic so a lot of boat wakes. If you've never done it, you don't realize how tired you get just from standing on a constantly moving boat, i needed that nap!

before I saw that! That is funny!

Happy Glorious 4th 'becker! We always have our fireworks at midnight of the 3rd/4th and SWMBO and I went last night. This time a year it doesn't get completely dark at night and midnight is a deep twilight with the northern sky still quite light - the Sun rises and sets in the north this time of year. Anyway, it was clear, warm by Alaska standards, and absolutely beautiful last night. The fireworks are set off from a barge out in the Downtown Juneau harbor. Downtown Juneau is completely surrounded by mountains from 2K to 4K or so feet, there was no wind so Gastineau Channel was like a sheet of glass that reflected all the fireworks and the mountains caused the reports to echo back and forth. The fireworks themselves aren't quite up to DisneyWorld closing standards or the big shows in NYC or DC, but they put on a good half hour or so show Anyway, it was a great show even if the price is an hour in bumper to bumper traffic to get home at 2am. I'm too old for much of that 2 am stuff, so I'm feeling my late night this morning.

It's late, I'm going to go watch the fireworks and I really don't want to be bothered with idiots. Give me 250 or more words on what Sarah Palin has actually accomplished as governor of Alaska and we'll have something to talk about. One qualifier; if that list of accomplishments comes from her press releases, you best be prepared to back up what you say. Now I actually don't expect to hear from you, at least not with anything intelligent, but it might make for an interesting digression, so lay on.

She has something special.

Whatever her motivations, I'm sure she'll still be capable of throwing some haymakers at the left. Perhaps even more so if she chooses.

But if she decided that the attacks weren't fair to her family, I'd respect that, too.

A "spellchecker thing" is used to check spelling. I said nothing about your spelling. That which I commented derisively (look it up) on was your grammar (look that up as well). And while we're at it, in that same tired little effort, your sentence structure was extraordinarily deficient.

I really think the thing that has "made" Governor Palin was just how bad McCain is. She is fantastic next to him. In absolutely EVERY way. The problem is that people have built a presumption about her that she couldn't live up to in ten lifetimes.

Her supporters - panchita, Gary, etal - are her worst enemies.

Now then, how about that diary of substance. Or do you even know 150 words.

I don't get "my" panties twisted up at the mention of Governor Palin and I don't recall ever having taken a shot at Josh. Of course, Josh does tend to put some thought into his posts even when he's off base.

I've said a hundred times that I have no problem with Governor Palin but that now is not the time that we should be spending time and effort flacking for a presidential candidate in '12. At the rate we're going, there may be nothing to discuss in '12 unless we stop the Ds now and make up some ground in '10. I've said over and over that the Governor could be a credible candidate come primary time and that we'd have to wait and see what her performance as Governor looked like before making a decision. Along with, of course, what her actual stance on the issues is - and what the issues are.

My "problem" is with idiots like you and Gary and a few other people who show up here and do nothing but flack for the Governor, you frequently get your facts totally wrong and are generally ignorant when attempting to discuss Alaska politics. (For the record, I'm ignorant about AK politics but then again I don't make rash statements about AK politics either.)

I would be more than happy to simply deconstruct some sort of argument you've made, but then again, you've never made one.

each of your point (and yes, the singular is intentional) have been met with multiple counterpoints.

The big picture here is that you're failing to see the big picture. I, myself, thought Palin was a good addition to the McCain candidacy. To be sure, the only worthwile addition (and that includes McCain himself). But this dwelling on 2012 is getting ridiculous. You want to be taken seriously? Start by getting serious.

don't start blaming us because she quit. How is she going to explain that if she runs for president? BTW, the real problem is in the United States of Entertainment the media tells those non politically minded folks how think, whom to like, and whom to dislike. Palin could draw crowds, but her approval rating was below the elusive 50 percent threshold.
