I don’t recall Major League Baseball doing this for Bush

Yes, yes, Presidents get to throw out first pitches even when they throw slow girlish balls like Obama instead of the steady, fast pitches of men like George Bush.

But one thing George Bush did not get that Barack Obama is getting from Major League Baseball is a platform to espouse his policy positions. Some of us would like a few areas in life where politics, like the Mets, get shut out. This should be one of them.

More absurd, you’d think Bush would have a leg up on MLB sucking up to him considering he had been an owner and Obama has to poll test which team to support.

Perhaps Major League Baseball wants a bailout.

As Dan McLaughlin notes, the relevant point is that George Bush showed up for a ball game and never showed up to talk policy.

Worth also noting that Bud Selig is a big Democrat and contributed to Joe Biden.

Or perhaps we should call him Thirty Seven.

Thirty seven?????

Not sure if I recall like you do...

I remember G.W. getting time in the booth.

I heard just the end of O-er-am-bama in the booth.

R.R. also got time in the booth… they even pressed him to call the play by play. It had been like 40 years since he done it, so he really wasn’t up for it.

he is talking about the link...

I thought I heard a good deal of booos...

cannedjam Tuesday, July 14th at 11:20PM EDT (link)

from the crowd in St. Louis when he came out. And I really can’t understand how any full grown man can’t reach the plate on the first pitch.

Good side note:

advice to Bush in 2001 from Jeter: “Throw a strike”

advice to Obama tonight from Jeter: “Don’t hurt yourself”

—–

and I look forward to the Mets going on an unexpected tear in the second half, you watch.

There were a good deal of boos

andysmith Wednesday, July 15th at 12:24AM EDT (link)

and I thought it remarkable odd that the cheers were all of a sudden louder when the boos were becoming more and more evident.
It kind of reminds me when John Kerry went out and got practically beat up by the crowd at Fenway Park in 2004 throwing a first pitch. That cracked me up. Maybe that crowd was the 30% or so that voted for Bush that year………

He didn't even get the ball to home plate

discerningconservative Tuesday, July 14th at 11:23PM EDT (link)

and the crowd booed him.

Fox didn’t show the pitch coming to the plate, but you can read the analysis here .

The AL won 4-3 which means the first game of the World Series will be at Fenway Park, so something good came out of the day.

Booing was evident

Jaimo Tuesday, July 14th at 11:26PM EDT (link)

I just watched the 2001 game after 9/11 when Bush threw out the ball at Yankee Stadium. It brought tears to my eyes.

The booing tonight didn’t make up a majority of people, but it certainly was loud enough to hear, even it Fox was told to turn up the cheer track to drown it out.

I watched the pregame stuff to see what they’d do, I agree with the commenters, Bush never got to talk about his agenda or have his agenda so prominent in the game and it’s events.

There was a post on one of the blogs I was on earlier that was from a woman who’s husband was at the game, and when they displayed the previous Presidents on the screen, the cheers for George W. Bush were overwhelming.

Maybe people are starting to wake up a bit.

Tomorrow Robert Gibbs will claim

Unlike W’s, the high-arching throw leaves the camera view for a few frames. Pujols appears to prevent the ball from hitting the dirt, but only by reaching out after taking a step forward with his left leg, something he had eons to do.

Yep. In Bush’s toss, the catcher is solidly behind homeplate. In BO’s, the catcher is straddelling or in front of home plate and has to lurch forward to save it from dirt-a perfect comparative analogy in policies in a myriad of ways.

and maybe this says more about Bob Sheppard than anything else - when he introduced Bush, he didn’t say his name. Just “the President of the United States.” That was title enough. Obama, it’s always about the O.

Obama Shoots an Air Ball and Fox Sports Swings and Misses

SoFiMil Wednesday, July 15th at 12:40AM EDT (link)

After the game, when interviewing MVP Carl Crawford who made that spectacular catch robbing the Brad Hawpe of the NL of a homerun, Joe Buck led a question with something to the affect of: “I imagine it was a thrill getting to meet the President of the United States.” I don’t think I would have heard this commentary about meeting a Republican president.

Other observations: Presidents Reagan and Bush set the standard for appropriate conduct dress both in and out of the oval office as the country’s representative in matters from gift giving and on. As president, he/she represents America. The Sox jersey was not a concern, but I winced when I saw Obama come onto the field in not just jeans, but old faded jeans, and tennis shoes. That’s appropriate for just about everyone else at a baseball game, but not for the President of the United States. I don’t expect a suit and tie, but dress pants and dress shoes are required.

Obama finally made an appearance on Fox, the network he previously boycotted, and Fox announcer Joe Buck went gaga over him. In describing his first pitch, Buck charitably harkened to Obama’s fist-pump reaction: “…after getting it to plate and glove of Albert Pujulos.” …Soon after the first pitch I went to do an errand and was listening to the 9:00 pm EDT CBS news on the radio. CBS also showed their bias by describing Obama’s pitch as “hitting Pujulos’ mitt”. (I’m not 100% sure on this quote, but if not exact, it’s close.) When I heard that description, I knew there was a cover-up going on. (I did also consider the possibility that CBS was lazy and just restated whatever Fox Sports has reported.)

Wish Jake Tapper was doing the All-Star game analysis tonight!

Yes, the 1st pitch; expected; but invading the rest of the game; no thank you.

Baseball purists say every pitch is a game and Barry put himself solely in front of the game, messing up the whole rythm and baseball, the defining sport of Americana.

I guess we can look forward to playoffs and world series appearences too.

It would be bearable if he wasn’t telling the whole country to eat cake while he and the 1st wifey continue their Kennedy-camelot remake.

I guess i’ll have to start watching hockey to get a break, since so many hockey players are foreigners and while Obama may tell you that you need to learn a foreign language; he doesn’t speak one himself; will most likely leave all those funny talking athletes alone.

This is really not fair. Obama inherited 60.6 ft from Bush

Marcus_Traianus Wednesday, July 15th at 2:08PM EDT (link)

The distance from home plate to the mound is 60.6 and was set in the Bush years. Democrat’s will now pass a resolution to shorten that distance and pay for it to be changed on every field with stimulus money- putting thousands to work. they will also spend millions investigating how that decision was reached.

The DoJ will investigate the discriminatory and arbitrary nature of the distance and indict any Bush officials advising the former President on related matters

The change in distance will be challenged in court and get to SCOTUS. Sotomayor will write the majority opinion saying that shortening the distance is fair, since it is empathetic to rag arms.

To celebrate the new distance (40 feet) and SCOTUS victory, Obama will throw out the first pitch at a Cub’s game- at that time a newly owned government enterprise. Rag and girly arms everywhere will unite and ask to be treated as a separate class under the Constitution.

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

MLB went hat in hand to Obama, told him they'll help with social agenda

katesmith Wednesday, July 15th at 2:36PM EDT (link)

MLB is a legal monopoly which relies on government favor to continue receiving its anti trust exemption. As in the average Banana Republic, Bud Selig does not tolerate any criticism of him or his operation. Reporters recount pressure from goons if they say one word against him. MLB itself approached Obama saying we’re a social institution and we’ll do your bidding, so on reflection, Obama agreed to hijack what used to be a baseball game. Bud Selig envisions himself part of the UN–with his sites set on global baseball. MLB believes Obama will help with that. For last year’s All Star game, MLB sold it out to global warming profiteers.
