I hope this totally backfires - when Polanski’s defenders start villifying the victim (who wants to be left alone) and calling here the criminal, it doesn’t exactly give the DA any room for leniency, as such will be seen as vindication for Polanski and overtuning the guilty plea.

It’s bad enough to argue for mercy - but quite another level of evil to deny Polanski’s culpability and blame the victim. That just reenacts the crime again.

Watching it again I was struck how much Vidal reminded me of the actor who always plays an officious self important twat, William Atherton.

Vidal’s scary rant has at its root the whole “it’s just sex!” mantra that Democrats consoled themselves with all through the Clinton years, although it is much more vicious and vile. It’s probably a byproduct of the thinking that some people (i.e. children in utero) are not fit to live, and thus, children aren’t worth much either. Being part of Hollywood and its skin trade (casting couch, porn shoots, etc) must have warped his mind.
