If you work for a man, in Heaven’s name work for him. If he pays wages that supply you your bread and butter, work for him, speak well of him, think well of him, and stand by him, and stand by the institution he represents.
Thus begins the Apologia to “A Message to Garcia”. It would behoove Pete Sessions and John Cornyn, head of the NRCC and NRSC respectively, to heed this message. These individuals seem to have forgotten just who pays the bills and funds these committees. And to be clear, that would be THE BASE.
Slip-shod assistance, foolish inattention, dowdy indifference, & half-hearted work seem the rule; and no man succeeds, unless by hook or crook, or threat, he forces or bribes other men to assist him…
Those words were written 110 years ago, yet are wholly applicable to our current situation. The NRSC and NRCC seem to be embracing these things rather than avoiding them.
It is not as if the base hasn’t made their complaints known, ever hear of “Not One Red Cent“. On the contrary, upon hearing the complaints the NRSC has treated them with dowdy indifference to say the least. To the credit of the NRCC they did create the Young Guns program, but as mentioned above “half hearted work seems the rule”.
When will Chairmans’ Sessions and Cornyn remember that character matters…
Well he’s a fine accountant, but if I’d send him up town on an errand, he might accomplish the errand all right, and on the other hand, might stop at four saloons on the way, and when he got to Main Street, would forget what he had been sent for.
Can such a man be entrusted to carry a message to Garcia?
Can we now trust you to run our errands, bypassing the saloons. Or, should we come to expect the continued stench of gin on your breath and failure at the ballot box?
If put to the pinch, an ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. If you must vilify, condemn, and eternally disparage, why, resign your position, and when you are outside, damn to your heart’s content.
You have both been to clever for your own good and are quickly outlasting your usefulness.
Remember these words dear Sirs…
In every store and factory there is a constant weeding-out process going on.
[...]
No matter how good times are, this sorting continues, only if times are hard and work is scarce, the sorting is done finer - but out and forever, the incompetent and unworthy go.
[...]
Self-interest prompts every employer to keep the best - those who can carry the message to Garcia.
The process has begun, our collective dander has been raised and we demand answers. Will you step down so that we may make room for our own Rowan?
It is not book-learning young men need, nor instruction about this and that, but a stiffening of the vertebrae which will cause them to be loyal to a trust, to act promptly, concentrate their energies: do the thing - “Carry a message to Garcia!”
Aaron B. Gardner.

Get used to it
bs Sunday, November 1st at 8:28PM EST (link)I expect you’ll see quite a bit of pressure on Cornyn and Sessions until the NRSC/NRCC decide to start supporting acceptable candidates rather than wasting Republican money on Democrats.
Decorum is fo’ suckas - unless it’s one of the good guys
bs, you don't think Aaron's post is a bit...um...overwrought?
smagar Sunday, November 1st at 8:38PM EST (link)And, bs, unless I misunderstood Erick, there’s not much interest on this site in working with Sessions anymore. He’s expected to do the honorable thing…as, I expect, is Cornyn.

No.
bs Sunday, November 1st at 8:41PM EST (link)And the NRCC needs to show some contrition for the absurdly stupid stunt they pulled in NY23. In addition, they need to demonstrate a commitment to supporting, you know, Republicans. The NY23 debacle was inexcusable.

We've been hearing 'pound sand' from GOP leadership for years
E Pluribus Unum Sunday, November 1st at 8:51PM EST (link)Our turn.
Smagar, you’re not going to win this discussion. We’ve tolerated being ignored, we’ve tolerated the NRSC funding Chafee against the conservative, only to have him denounce the GOP after losing in the general election. We’ve tolerated Specter getting endorsements from Bush and Santorum against Toomey, only to have him change parties at the first opportunity.
We had McCain chosen as our nominee, the biggest party backstabber and Sunday Morning media whore in our history, which gave us a president who would turn us into Cuba.
We’re done. Moderate kissy-face is what gave us the 40% in both Houses.
We are taking back the party. Drive it get out of the left lane.

I sent this email to the NRCC
vamoose Sunday, November 1st at 11:07PM EST (link)The NRCC supported Dede Scozzafava, candidate for the NY-23 congressional seat, with almost $1 million. She has now endorsed her Democrat opponent Bill Owens. This represents a colossal failure on the part of the NRCC, and Republicans across the country deserve an apology and explanation. I thought the White House’s vetting of personnel was bad, but the NRCC’s neglect to ensure that Ms. Scozzafava even marginally adhered to GOP orthodoxy is appalling. If you haven’t noticed, money is tight across America. How can you in good conscience ask Republicans across the nation to forego spending on all manner of needs when you waste it on candidates who have no party loyalty? Why should the people of country trust Republicans to be better administrators of the national budget when the NRCC has proven to be such poor steward on the hard-earned contributions of so many? If it’s not too much trouble, I would like a response. If my request takes time away from your support of other unworthy candidates, then all the better.
Regards, (vamoose)

Not to be disrespectful to anyone, however,
billg Sunday, November 1st at 8:59PM EST (link)I seriously do not believe that the chairmen of the NRCC or the NRSC nor the RNC get it! They keep saying we must have moderates and liberals to win, is like saying we must kiss our sister to get any loving. If the conservative people who have been put down and ridiculed for the past 6 years by the GOP establishment would truly, truly, put aside the differences between being a social conservative and a fiscal conservative and just be conservative, then we would be allied to conservative independents, conservative democrats, conservative republicans and if the moderates wish to come along with us, then jump on board. The moderates should put forth their ideas without putting there wet fingers in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. We as conservatives know we want a republic not a “democracy”; we want capitalism not socialism or communism; we want individual responsiblity with strong charity for those who truly need help from his/her neighbors; and we don’t want an invasive and corrupt huge federal government and bloated bureauacies. Tea Party Patriots and all of us forming coalitions and alliances to defeat all liberals and socialists of whatever party is what we should all be about. It they are big government, big spending, heavy socialists or strong liberals who always want us to come over to their way of thinking and never giving us the time of the day, forget about them. Get on the wagon or get out of the way, do you hear so called GOP leadership. I use the word “leadership” very lightly, since there hasn’t been any since 1994!
Bring our military and intelligence forces home to the good ole USA. We need them here and now to remove the communists which have infiltrated our Federal government.

Republican doom in 2012
patsw Monday, November 2nd at 12:01AM EST (link)If we want to have a hope of getting the White House back with a conservative — the whole Iowa-New Hampshire-South Carolina media circus has to be replaced with real Republican votes in closed primaries– otherwise a media darling like McCain is going to game the system again. The current game is fixed to select the Republican most like a Democrat
Good point patsw, any Sect of State elections in the NE should be watched nationally.
