Now that Indiana Democrats have chosen their candidate for Governor, how do they compare side-by-side?

Posted at 10:06pm on May 5, 2008 Hoosiers, Vote May 6!

By averagejoeblogs

IndianaAs the sun rises on the American Midwest tomorrow, so will it rise upon the Indiana Presidential Primary -- a primary that is essentially a formality for Republicans across the state (though there are several state and local reasons to vote).

As Senator John McCain is the "presumptive" nominee (as if Congressman Ron Paul even stands a chance of mounting a real challenge), and most of the early Republican candidates (including those which I felt more strongly about supporting) have long since dropped out of the race, voting in the Presidential Primary portion of tomorrow's election might seem useless.

By averagejoeblogs

John McCain has just saved me $30. Maybe he is the right guy for the White House. How did he save me $30? By clinching the Republican Presidential nomination this week, he has nullified any vote I would cast in the Indiana primary on May 6. Since I recently moved to Indianapolis, and have not yet updated my voter registration, I had planned to make the drive to my old precinct to cast a vote in the Republican primary. That would have cost me about $30 in gas round trip. Now that my vote doesn't matter, I can save the gas money.

Posted at 11:23am on Feb. 21, 2008 What's Wrong With This Picture?

By averagejoeblogs

I'm going to make just a couple of quick observations about the newly reported John McCain lobbyist scandal.

What's wrong with this picture? Is it that John McCain may or may not have been involved in some way with a female lobbyist? The New York Times (whom I won't dignify with a link) alleges not that John McCain did something politically immoral with this lobbyist, but that he did something personally immoral with her. That his sin was against his spouse and not the American public.

So what's wrong with this picture? Senator McCain denies the allegations. He denies being involved in any inappropriate way the lobbyist in question. He denies having any type of romantic relationship with her.

Posted at 10:58pm on Feb. 1, 2008 Still With Fred

By averagejoeblogs

I started this political fiasco called the primary season as a Fred Thompson supporter. Before Fred was officially a candidate, I supported him. I backed Thompson because he was truly the most stable conservative among the race. He stood for the same conservative principles that I have stood upon for years.

I discovered the other day that my wife has decided to endorse former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for the Office of President of the United States in the 2008 election. I had no idea she had given it such consideration. I'm usually the one who follows politics, not her.

Posted at 11:20am on Jul. 16, 2007 Politics -vs- Passion

By averagejoeblogs

I was doing some thinking this morning while driving in to work and listening to Senator Lindsay Graham debate Senator Jim Webb on yesterday's "Meet The Press" (I download and listen to the podcast version). They were talking about -- what else -- the Iraq war. And it was the typical debate: a Democrat insisting that the troops be brought home while the Republican emphasizes the recent successes with the troop surge and puts his faith in General Petraeus' leadership, calling for us to wait until the September progress report before calling for redeployment.

It occurred to me that there are basically two sides to this issue: those who want to quit versus those who want to win. Or, basically, Politics -vs- Passion.

By averagejoeblogs

Memorial Day means so many different things to so many different people. What does it mean to you?

To some, it's a time to get together, have a picnic, drink a few beers, play some volleyball or (the new yard game of the 21st century) corn hole, and just hang together.

Posted at 11:07pm on May 17, 2007 Why the Dems for Pres Want Us To Lose In Iraq

By averagejoeblogs

Something occurred to me the other day as I listened to one of the many bland Democratic candidates for President speak on one of the many national news programs. I can't recall the candidate or the news program that they appeared on, if that says anything about how memorable these candidates are. All I can say for sure is that it was not Hillary Rodham Clinton (she of the recently removed Rodham), and it was a Democrat. I remember that it wasn't Hillary simply because I would remember if it was the only female candidate. I remember that it was a Democrat because he couldn't stop talking about getting out of Iraq.
