So we've got 1700 total ( 1400 + the "borrowed" 300 police officers from Aurora). Assume no vacations or days off for a week..Let's assume that they go on 12 hours shifts for the week ( probably easier to do for purposes of scheduling. That's 850 per shift. Let's figure 100+ for command and supervisory duties...manning the precincts, etc. and another 200+ to cover the entire rest of the city..( I mean, criminals aren't stupid..you can probably expect crimes to increase in the outlying areas.. ) so that leaves about 500-550 officers to cover the convention area and the surrouding downtown blocks...guarding all the hotles, venues, etc. And not to mention traffic and crowd control. Anyone who saw the 2004 GOP convention in NYC knows that there were probably more than 1000 cops just surrounding the one block Madison Square Garden at any given time. This is a recipe for disater in the making..
