Why you lost/why you are losing

To the Republican leadership:

Why are you losing?

You have no core. You have no conviction for conservative principles. You have no backbone to stand up for proper governance.

When in the majority, you governed like Democrats – thoroughly irresponsible spending and opportunistic voting gimmicks rather than having real conviction about those “hot topic” issues raised every election year. You were exposed as the utter hypocrites many of you are. Your central theme in 2006 was: VOTE AGAINST THE DEMS – THEY’RE WORSE THAN US!!! Thoroughly uninspiring. Maddening.

The purge will continue. Why? Beyond 2006, your appeal has not changed. It’s still the “DEMS ARE WORSE” flailing. Even some of the good members are being swept away because they cannot effectively give people solid, positive, CONSERVATIVE reasons to vote for them due to the unwillingness of party leaders to take simple, bold stands that would show that you have learned from past mistakes.

But what should we expect from hypocrites who cower to the media and remain addicted to the corrupting influence of Washington power?

And McCain’s liberal lean on half of the important issues of the day won’t help. If Dem-lite John is elected over Obama, it will be to the short term detriment of the party members under him.

In the long run, the winning strategy for any struggling Republican will be to clearly distance themselves from the spineless, Dem-lite party leadership and promise to lead a resurgence based on conservative CONVICTION.

What else ya got?

Honestly, thanks for the post. I think it sums up the general disillusionment nicely.

The Liberal Party up in Canada tried the tactic of "They're worse than us!" in the 2006 election up there. And guess what happened? Yeah, they lost control of Parliament to the Conservatives. This tactic does not work.

did not elect McCain in the primaries. The (supposedly) GOP electorate did. Now I guess one could postulate that it's all part of a cunning plan from the Dems, but I suspect it has more to do with a lack of a consensus candidate...ie. this is the best we could do with the cards we were dealt. There were no "smoke filled rooms" involved here, as much as we'd like to think so.

One of my points is that McCain is not the savior in this situation. He will only add to the reasons for the purge.

Well, one could argue that it was actually the "leadership" who made the rules that got McCain his position. While a superdelegate system would be a lot worse, the plurality-take-all system many states used was not chosen by the GOP electorate.

Bush is the reason by neum432

The Bush presidency is the reason we have McCain as our nominee and we are faced with more losses in Congress in '08. McCain is the anti-Bush candidate, which in turn makes him the most electable Republican. To prove this look back at the Republican primaries. Romney got the vast majority of the votes of those who supported Bush. Romney in turn could not muster enough support. Nuff said, We need to run away from this inarticulate, aw shucks, no fight in him GW Bush. The GOP can not be a winner in this climate with GWB as the face of the party.

Huh? by bs

Uh...I don't think so. I'd consider McCain more of "yet another Bush" than the opposite. With the notable exception of spending, McCain is almost a clone of GWB. And I'll believe McCain's commitment to limiting spending when I see it. As I posted on another thread, spending is the politicians primary weapon for keeping his job...and if McCain gets in, he'll want to stay the full 8 years.

Sadly, they did not have much/any room for "write-in" inputs. However, I did exercise my option to not pay $15 for the cost of the survey and to donate $0 to their effort (which of course they try to guilt me into paying something by throwing out Peloci and liberals, etc, etc in that $0 option).

I wonder if my survey will actually be counted...
