Mitt Romney is G.O.P. ONLY hope

By Romney in 2008 Posted in Comments (27) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

McCain can't raise money. He's trying to get a loan using his private donor list.

Huckabee can't raise money. He raised $350,000 the day after winning Iowa. That's pathetic.

Rudy is not paying top campaign staff.

Romney raised 5 million after coming in second in NH.

Ron Paul has raised a ton of money.

In politics, you have to follow the money. This is a change election and yet the G.O.P. wants to remain the same.

If Romney was a baptist or evangelica, he would have the nomination locked up. Huckabee used religion as a wedge issue in Iowa.

The media made McCain in NH and went after Romney. They did it because they fear Romney.

The DNC has released more negative press releases against Romney than any other candidate. The liberal media loves McCain and Huckabee.

The reason they fear Romney is because they plan to run on the economy and universal health care. Romney can trump the democrats on both issues.

With the Clintons, it's always the economy stupid.

McCain doesn't have an economic bone in his body.

Huckabee is a populist who will never out liberal, liberals.

In a change election, the G.O.P. will be in trouble if they nominate a 72 year old Washington insider who can't raise money or the aww shucks, I'm just a goober from the south candidate like Huckabee.

This will show the world the G.O.P. is not ready for change and a 3rd party candidate will be more popular than the republican candidate.

Your running against a female and the democrats new african american Bobby Kennedy and your gonna nominate John McCain or Huckabee? That's insanity.

John McCain = Bob Dole. In a change election, your looking at a statewide loss for the G.O.P.

Help us Obi Wan... by darwinianlurch

...you're our only hope. :-)

"This is a change election and yet the G.O.P. wants to remain the same."

Except that the two candidates who are getting the closest to the nomination (McCain and Huckabee) are heretics from the one true faith, so to speak.

If there is anyone in this race who is running as a standard-issue Republican, its Mitt Romney. Consider...

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/01/opinion/01brooks.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

"The most impressive thing about Mitt Romney is his clarity of mind. When he set out to pursue his party’s nomination, he studied the contours of the Republican coalition and molded himself to its forms.

Earnestly and methodically, he has appealed to each of the major constituency groups. For national security conservatives, he vowed to double the size of the prison at Guantánamo Bay. For social conservatives, he embraced a culture war against the faithless. For immigration skeptics, he swung so far right he earned the endorsement of Tom Tancredo."

Hardly the candidate you want in a 'change' election.

There's hardly a coherent sentence here. Put them together and it appears to be you're just throwing stuff at the wall to see what will stick.

What we need in a leader is to tell us not what we want to hear, but what we need to hear.

Money is a red herring by Dan McLaughlin

Whoever wins the nomination will raise plenty of cash for the general.

If we are certain to lose, though, I guess I'd rather waste Mitt's money than a lot of donors'. But I don't believe we are certain to lose.

"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill

Correct. Money will not be a problem for the eventual nominee.

G.O.P. is in big trouble by Romney in 2008

They can't change, so they are about to nominate a 72 year old Washington Insider.

This is Bob Dole redux.

Ron Paul or Bloomberg will surely run as 3rd party candidates.

McCain can't raise money.

You wander in our house and dump this pile of [redacted] in the foyer, shame on you.

Your whine, this time around, seems to be that none of the candidates are qualified because they can't raise money. I could apply that same standard to Mitt. Sure he's raised a bunch of cash, but if it weren't for his personal loans to the campaign - in the multiple millions - he'd have been out of business months ago.

I have no problem with Mitt spending his own money. It's his. My problem is with idiots like you who feel the need to take non-issues and crap on our floor with them.

Go post somewhere else.

I fully expect Ron Paul to run a vanity campaign, and party like its 1899 doing his John Bircher strut across the national stage, and lock up the 9-11 truther and Aryan Nations vote. So I guess our candidate is going to have to write off that crowd like we write off Vermont in the general. Oh well...

If Nurse Bloomburg has $500 million burning a hole in his pocket, I can't see it hurting anyone but the dem candidate in the general if he wants to run a vanity campaign.

McCain is raising money just fine, and will raise even more after Michigan.

the Presidency of the United States is for sale to the person with the most money? I personally would beg to differ with you....If that were the case Hillary will win the Presidency.

I find your argument to be biased and blatantly false.

If it was about money, Perot would have won ages ago.

The point is.... by Romney in 2008

Money = Energy.

Romney has raised alot of money outside of his personal wealth.

The only reason Romney is not the nominee at this point is because of religion.

If he was a Baptist, the nomination would be locked up.

This is why the G.O.P. isn't ready for change or something different.

They either want a southern accent or Bob Dole.

Not the only reason by Dan McLaughlin

You are new here, right? Go here and read the first four parts first.

Money = ... ask former President Phil Gramm.

McCain doesn't have an economic bone in his body.

It's the economy stupid and the G.O.P. doesn't get it.

This is Bob Dole all over again.

Congratulations! by darwinianlurch

You've just passed Hugh Hewitt as the world's most annoying Rombot. You win the gold. Er, silver...OK, two silvers...two silvers and a gold!

McCain won NH and he's by Romney in 2008

McCain won NH and he's trying to get a loan using his private donor list as collateral. This is a disaster.

raised 661K in the last 48 hours a large chunk after the debate last night...again it is about the true conservative....not the rich man with his own bank account...and Romney is not that conservative...he will not be buying this Presidency....if he wants it he must earn it.

and if you have different information, please share. He has raised $662,751 since January 4th. Now granted he has raised $122,751 (at least) since the debate, that alone is powerful...

Texas Proud and Texas Loud

I apologize for bad information...I am happy to report though that since 1/4/07 he is now at 701K and going up....not a bad haul for 6 1/2 days for someone who is "boring" and unelectable.

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

Fred's campaign with the truck was just around $530,000 as the debate begun...Now he's at $702,000+...That's over $170,000 in less than 24 hours. This is his best day of fundraising using the Red Truck...I'm getting excited and obviously I'm not alone.

1.5 million in Primary dollars and 3.5 million for the General Election in one day (January 9th). All money from donors--none of his own money. He has raised more money then ANY other republican, even without his own money. It sounds like he is "earning" it.

Money is not irrelevant by SeriousLaff

Money is not the only thing a candidate needs (Ron Paul has a load of it tucked in his tinfoil hat) but you can't win without some of it. McCain/Feingold is one of the main reasons that Republicans are having problems. Just one of the reasons many Republicans LOATHE McCain.

The nominee won't raise money if they agree with Hillary or Obama and most issues anyway. Taxes and immigration are the few winning issues Republicans can win with and McCain and Huckabee throw them away. Hillary today responded to an illegal immigrant in Nevada with "No woman is illegal". McCain and Huckabee can't argue with her when they've have said the same thing over and over again.

Exactly!! The liberal media by Romney in 2008

Exactly!!

The liberal media loves McCain and Huckabee and some in the G.O.P. are following their lead.

McCain = Bob Dole.

The Clintons already beat him and Bill was a drat dodger and he beat the war hero.

When will the G.O.P. learn?

We get it already by JSobieski

McCain = Dole

Maybe Romney = the worst aspects of Phil Gramm + Steve Forces?

Consider the source by samcoastie

Why is it that every negative statement about Romney and is rooted in a liberal source. The same place McCain gets his endorsements.

As far as Romney morphing himself into an ideal Republican, that is somewhat true. In the 80's Mitt was an independent, then in the 90's he became a moderate Republican and since then his slow change has continued. He has been on the path to conservatism for 2 decades and that bugs the libs to no end.

Forgive me if I don't get the quote quite right...

If you are 20 and you are not a liberal, you have no heart.
If you are 60 and not a conservative, you have no brain.

Admit it ... you're a Huckabee supporter, aren't you?

I could NEVER support by Romney in 2008

I could NEVER support Huckabee.

He used religion like race in Iowa.

He increased spending from 6 to 16 billion.

He increased the tax burden by 47%.

He speaks class warfare like John Edwards.

Some conservatives will accept him out of fear of change but not me.
