What Would Happen if John McCain Said This?

Drudge has a USA Today story up this morning, quoting Hillary discussing her rationale for staying in and why she deserves the nomination:
"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
I’m trying to figure out if she said something racially inappropriate here- that “hard working Americans, WHITE AMERICANS” and “WHITES in both states who had not completed college” were giving her significant support.
Factually, what she said is entirely accurate. According to CBS News:
Clinton received the support of 60 percent of white voters in both states, while Obama got 40 percent of the white vote in Indiana and 36 percent in North Carolina. Obama won the overwhelming majority of black voters: 92 percent in Indiana and 91 percent in North Carolina.
So Hillary is just stating the facts. But maybe its because of so many years of cringing as conservative pols get hammered for saying anything with a remotely racial tinge to it, that this blatant and explicit statement of racial appeal by the cadidate herself didn’t sit right with me. I’m trying to imagine what the reaction would be if John McCain said something like this. I’ve got to believe the MSM would tear him a new one. It will be interesting to see how the media double standard plays out in the coverage of this coming out of Hillary's mouth.

McCain would never, ever get away with saying something like this....it would be the end of his campaign. Although, this is also probably the end of Hillary's campaign, so...
