Weblexhibitionism

Weblexhibitionism
It turns out that the Internet has unleashed a mass of Weblexhibitionism, unmatched in human history. We have blogs, social networking sites, YouTube and all their rivals. These sites are a scream for attention. Listen to me. Laugh with me.....or at me.
This is no longer fringe behavior. YouTube, a site where anyone can post home videos, states that 100 million videos are watched daily.
Weblexhibitionism is now a big business. MySpace was purchased a couple years ago for a reported $580 million.
What's interesting is that their popularity clashes with the belief that people fear the Internet will violate their right to privacy. You know what the dirty little secret is? Millions of Americans, just like you, are gleefully discarding or at least happily conceding their right to privacy. Bloggers are posting personal and intimate stuff in places where thousands or millions can see it.
Definition
Weblexhibitionism is a mental disorder characterized by a compulsion to display one's deeply held political views to an unsuspecting stranger usually with no intention of further reasonable conversation with that person.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, classifies Weblexhibitionism under the heading of "poliphilias," a subcategory of political identity disorders. Poliphilias are a group of mental disorders marked by an obsession with relentlessly offering your opinion and/or activism to nonconsenting or unassuming partners (including children or animals).
"Lurking" is watching an unsuspecting person or community, blog on the Internet. This is a "hands-off" poliphilia. This contrasts with "Posting" which is a "hands-on disorder" which involves intellectual contact with other posters. What you usually see is newbies getting dressed down or locals engaging in fishing activity.
In some cases, the Weblexhibitionist expresses himself to the other person. Some Weblex's are aware of a conscious desire to shock or upset their target; while others fantasize that the target will become Righteously Indignant by their display.
Causes and symptoms
There are different theories related to Weblexhibitionistic behaviors, many provided by the Manstitute of Advanced Conservative Studies (MACS). They suggest that childhood trauma, such as having to listen to Uncle Joe belch his liberal garbage on issues such as campaign finance reform and his support for embryonic stem cell research, will increase the likelihood of becoming a Weblexhibitionist.
Biological theories
These generally hold that testosterone, the hormone that influences the sexual drive in both men and adversaries, increases the susceptibility of males developing into a Weblexhibitionist.
Psychopolitical theories
These are based on the assumption that male gender identity...requires the male's separation from his liberal fathers political convictions .."psychologically" ...so that he does not identify with them and end up with the same sentiments.......The way a women do....but I digress...
It is thought that Weblexhibitionists expect their peers to embrace them on the basis of their brilliance and unending wisdom. Therefore, they grow up with a craving to force adversaries to accept their wisdom by trying to make their opinions look weak and waterish. Most people disagree whether Weblexhibitionism should be considered a disorder of impulse control or whether it falls within the spectrum of obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCDs).
Ego trauma - There are a small number of documented cases of men becoming Weblexhibitionists following traumatic damage to their 'amour-propre' at young ages.
There are no genes that have been linked with an increased risk of Weblexhibitionism or other poliphilias. Such chromosomal abnormalities as 'mrsyHastings' syndrome (where males have an extra X chromosome and are usually sterile) were at one time thought to be a risk factor for the development of poliphilias, but research can't be done....cause he got banned (sigh).
Symptoms
An expert in treating poliphilias from the Manstitute of Advanced Conservative Studies (MACS) has suggested classifying the symptoms of Weblexhibitionism according to level of severity, based on criteria from (MACS). We thank them for input.
Mild - These bloggers have recurrent fantasies of expressing themselves, but have rarely or never acted on them.
Moderate - (There's that nasty word again) These bloggers have occasionally expressed themselves (30 targets or fewer) and have difficulty controlling their urges to do so. These bloggers also have an overwhelming urge to start buying gold and hiding their cash under their mattresses in preparation for the ultra Dem. Congress and the ObamaMessiah and Princess Pouty Face's Socialist Paradise....but anyways...
Severe - These bloggers have expressed themselves to more than 100 people and have serious problems with control. These bloggers have gone so far as to invert their adhesive signage. Very dangerous.
A fourth level of severity..catastrophic...would not be found in Weblexhibitionists without other poliphilias. This level denotes the presence of sadistic fantasies which, if acted upon, would result in Obama or Hillary winning the White House.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of Weblexhibitionism is complicated by several factors. For example, most persons with the disorder come to their senses after they get a warning from the Moe or Neil. Some are afraid of discovery by family members or employers, and a minority of Weblexhibitionists sometimes enter marital-therapy because their wife/husband is totally pis...made uneasy by the disorder.
Some bloggers maintain that the only problem they have with Weblexhibitionism is the fact that lefties......throughout the blogosphere, can go back in the archives at any time and resurrect their blockheaded, dense and doltish posts....ah..lefties....in my estimation..just not bright people... I have not been impressed with the intellect of the left since I was a freshman in college...ah yes college...I had a smokin' girlfriend in college....oppps....
Demographics
The occurrence of Weblexhibitionism in the general population is difficult to evaluate because bloggers with this disorder do not usually identify themselves of their own free will. You might think your talking to cindygirl13, but really it's Larry the plumber, workin' on his sixth beer.
Almost all reported cases of Weblexhibitionism involve males. Some bloggers engage in a form of the affliction by undressing their opponent in front of the public as if they want someone to watch.
Although the stereotype of an Weblexhibitionist is a "dirty old man in pajamas", most males guilty for Weblexhibitionism are in their late twenties to early fourties. The disorder appears to have its onset after age 25. In the U.S., most Weblexhibitionists are Caucasian males. About half are married.
Bloggers seem to hunger for popularity more than they fear the loss of privacy. Some of this Weblextroversion is philistine and self-serving.
The same impulse that inspires people to "come clean" on Jerry Springer, has now found a mass outlet. My guess is that DKOS aims at an 22-to-45-year-old audience. Many of the pages are proudly raunchy. Nobody likes to go there, but going there makes you understand what liberalism is really like. They are Weblexhibitionists of the highest order.
Redstate is often seen as mainly a political arena. That's true. But according to what I've seen, most bloggers here don't mind writing posts on personal experiences. I've done it a few times. Half of bloggers know some HTML and use it. Some create great works of art to show to the world.
The blogs and social networking sites are glorious new forms of instant messaging. What's different is the unadulterated passion for self-promotion.
Now...I will jolt you back to reality and say that today's Weblexhibitionism may last a lifetime. What goes on the Internet stays on the Internet. Something that seems silly or harmless today may seem offensive or stupid in two weeks, two years or two decades. Thoreau once said that "the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." Thanks to the blogosphere, that's no longer necessary. The people's desperation isn't so quiet now, is it.
As always......OPEN thread.....Hey aceintx..Go Lakers

You, me (and everyone) are one of 'these people' who have a new outlet....Its hard to imagine...but the world is watching us...and we are all weblexhibitionists. Everyone.. this is not the best post in the world but I'm really curious what everyone thinks about this...or do you not think about it?

it is true that if you post something on the net, it can be recalled later to your discomfort or benefit. But most of the world do not blog, and even those who do blog, most are not political. and even to those who are political, they are spread out over so many sites, no one site has that much influence.

But I've said before this is one of the better sites....Redstate keeps its bathrooms clean...As with all blogsites there is a vast amount of people that just read and never post, I did that for a Long time....
You dont have to be political to enjoy reading this site...But, some of these threads lately have been Gnarly...I kinda lose track after about '200' posts that say the same thing over and over...but I digress...
This site rules and your all a bunch of Flashers!!
"40 million American households with Flashers are generally happier
than those people in households that don't have Flashers."
I remember when Redstate used to have very deep philosophical/historical/literature oriented discussions. I learned a lot from them.
"Nothing works like freedom, Nothing succeeds like liberty"

With all these long and skinny threads and alot of heated debate, just remember...be careful what you write..What happens on the Internet STAYS on the Internet...for a long time!
