New poll: 57% of Republicans do not know Giuliani is pro-choice

No wonder his chances are not declining as fast as they should. A majority of Republicans and Republican leaners are ignorant of the important fact that Rudolph Giuliani is pro-choice.
When asked the question of "Which leading GOP candidate is pro-choice?" the respondents had to choose between Rudy (The only pro-choice candidate), "other", and "Don't know".
These were the answers:

Who is pro-choice?
Giuliani: 43%
Other: 13%
Don't know: 42%

This is a golden opportunity for Fred Thompson to start hammering Giuliani on this aspect.

I'm not surprised. Having seen several polls, it's my guess that registered voters (even to a larger degree than non-voters) don't seem to know much about any of the candidates they favor or do not favor. Either it's too early, or they just don't care about much else than popularity and name recognition. If it is the latter, they should not vote in the primary election. However, I personally think it is just too early. I do hope most voters find out about all the candidates' positions before the primaries, ESPECIALLY this one. It is a disappointment that people would vote solely on the basis of name recognition, especially in a primary.

I could never vote for Rudy. Anyone who does not know the simple scientific and biological fact of when life begins is unfit for the sixth grade, much less the presidency.

I think this goes to the way Rudy has been answering abortion questions lately. He says that he's against abortion, but does not feel that government should intervene in this "plural" society. That's his opinion, but he's been very shrewd about this viewpoint, playing down his view because it goes counter to the views of the majority of conservatives. This poll is just good news for him (because as long as people don't know, they won't vote based on that), and probably bad for the party and perhaps the nation. For Rudy, there is truth to the saying "Ignorance is bliss."
