‘Why Is Nancy Pelosi Taking Care of Personal Business Rather Than the People’s Business?’

Republicans Intensify Attacks on Out-of-Touch House Speaker

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in Ann Arbor, Mich., tonight promoting her new book. Next week she’ll make stops in several California cities before swinging through Denver on her way to the Democratic National Convention (view complete schedule). Unfortunately for Pelosi, Americans aren’t buying it — the book has an Amazon sales rank of 1,567.

As she talks about her legacy in posh book stores, millions of Americans are struggling to fill up their gas tanks. Pelosi, meanwhile, has repeatedly dismissed the Republican revolt taking place on the U.S. House floor, refusing to address the No. 1 issue facing our country by blocking a vote in Congress. Yesterday she disgracefully mocked the GOP’s call for more energy exploration.

Republicans aren’t letting her get away with it. House GOP Whip Roy Blunt, who led Republicans onto the floor today, put it bluntly: “Why is Nancy Pelosi taking care of personal business rather than the people’s business?” His colleague, Republican Policy Chairman Thaddeus McCotter, came to RedState to mock Pelosi’s “Politburo Palace Guard” known as MoveOn.org for launching a counter-protest.

Blunt was fired up when we spoke his afternoon. Shortly after opening the day’s unofficial session, he went right to the phone and spent much of the day on talk radio. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

He said the Democrats’ empty rhetoric about high energy costs would come back to hurt them in September. “If Democrats were sincere, they would join Republicans and sign a discharge petition to force a vote on energy legislation,” Blunt said. He noted that even Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va.) refused to sign a discharge petition for his own bill, H.R. 2208, the Coal-to-Liquid Fuel Act.

With an eye on the Sept. 30 expiration of the offshore drilling ban, Blunt said Pelosi would be foolish to force a showdown with so many Americans in favor of opening the Outer Continental Shelf to exploration. “There’s no reason for her to include a moratorium in the continuing resolution,” Blunt said.

He’s right. There’s no good reason to do so, except that Nancy Pelosi is trying to “save the planet” — one book at at time.

The “Know Your Power” book tour with Pelosi will visit these cities, according to publisher Random House.

This begs a question for the Speaker:

How does killing trees for a useless book help save the planet?

Isn?t it wonderful that Mother Pelosi, the person who knows what is better for us than we do, has decided that in the midst of one of the most important issues for Americans today this is the time to promote a book? I find it galling to say the least that she cares so little about our opinion that she convenes congress to take care of personal business. After all, if Obama is elected she can do whatever she wants and no one will stop her.

Remember, a vote for Obama is a vote for nullifying the threat of veto for Pelosi.

else she’ll have a lot of dead trees to buy CO2 offsets for and not enough royalties to cover it.

Good question so I thought I would try to find a more explanative answer. Here’s what I [found]

“But the reality is that some people in denial prefer the lethal consequences of their denial as long as they don’t have to question their own motivations, beliefs, and ideologies.

Those individuals, groups, or nations who live in the world of deep denial are practically untouchable by reality or rational argument. They go through their daily lives secure in the knowledge that their self-image is protected against any information, feelings, or awareness that might make them have to change their view of the world. Nothing–not facts, not observable behavior; not the use of reason, logic, or the evidence of their own senses will make them reevaluate that world view.

All events will simply be reinterpreted to fit into the belief system of that world–no matter how ridiculous, how distorted, hysterical or how psychotic that reinterpretation appears to others. Consistency, common sense, reality, and objective truth are unimportant and are easily discarded–as long as the world view remains intact. As discussed in Part II, there are countless strategies –rhetorical ploys and logical fallacies–that can be used to keep the truth at bay.”

    Dear Speaker Pelosi:

Having sold nearly 2700 books in the first 10 days, Speaker Pelosi has embarked on a book tour to help promote her book. In the first printing of 200,000, it will take another 2 years to sell her first printing, assuming the book sells at the initial rate of sales, which is usually much higher than other weeks.

“This is not a problem you can tour your way out of,” stated House Minority Leader John Boehner. “It will take 2 years just to sell the first printing, and we need to focus on developing alternative books.”

Some leaders have tried to offer solutions to the crisis. “There are alternatives the Speaker hasn’t even explored. For example, I believe she can explore titles such as:

    1. “The Felix Sparks Post Office Building: Why the names of our nation’s post offices are critical reminders of our nation’s historical legacy.”

    2. “Bipartisanship, and how to get things done in DC”

    3. The Critical 9%. How 27 million supporters of Congress have helped shape our nation’s agenda.”

    4. “Botox Bungles: How doctors are failing to keep our nation’s leaders from looking surprised.”
