Confirm Tom Daschle

Why has Tom Daschle been paid over $4.5 million in the four years since losing his Senate seat (not to mention his wife’s lucrative career as a lobbyist)? Because it is believed – correctly – that Tom Daschle can get you government contracts; or spare you from government regulation; or get the government to regulate your competitors.

Daschle should serve as a constant reminder of what this administration’s policies are really all about: rewarding Democrats and Democratic constituencies with other people’s money

This influence peddling is going to get worse – much worse – under the Obama regime. You can’t double the Federal government’s discretionary spending in one “stimulus” bill, and propose to nationalize health care (as Mr. Daschle wants to do), nationalize the auto industry (as has just about been done), nationalize the banks (already nationalized in all but name, with the President yesterday announcing plans to dictate their lending policies), and think people aren’t going to flock to Washington and pay big bucks to the Tom Daschles of the world to help them get their share of the loot.

These are not unintended consequences of the policies of big government. They are the essence of big government. The cash floating around Washington and being lavished on the Tom Daschles of the world is exactly what Democrats have longed for – money follows power.

Should Daschle’s nomination be rejected? Well, can you imagine a Republican being confirmed after “forgetting” to pay over $125,000 in taxes? Why should the people put up with it, especially from a man who, as Grover Norquist points out, has steadfastly fought to keep taxes high on others.

But I think Daschle should be confirmed. It is appropriate that Daschle – one of Washington’s top influence peddlers – should be saved precisely because he has influence. Then he, along with Mr. Geithner, can serve as a constant reminder to the American people of what this administration’s policies are really all about – rewarding Democrats and Democratic constituencies with other people’s money – and as a constant reminder that in this adminstration, one built on the notion of a massive expansion of government power, having influence with government is what it is all about.

Play by the rules? In the burgeoning world of big government, rules are for suckers. And Tom Daschle is no sucker. Stimulating, isn’t it?

Why should we marginalize Daschle?

There are bigger crocodiles within Camp Obama and the United States Congress for Liberals and Democrats.

So, 120K is small using Libs/Dems’ standard.

So, to his Excellency, Pres. Barack Hussein Obama, and to the Democrat-Run Congress, please honor yourselves by nominating and confirming Daschle.

HE’S JUST ONE OF YOURS. No big deal. What’s so wrong about that?

If I may add

Hail! the Great President Obama,

You friend Blago is being tormented by both Dems and Reps.

He’s your good friend and ally.

Help him Mr. President. Please show mercy. Stop Blago’s Impeachment proceedings. Save him, oh Merciful President.

It will be wise, Mr. President. It will be wise and classy. [Anyway, Blago is just like you.]

Your humble Servant,

A Nobody

I guess Daschle & Geithner are in this bunch

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

On the article header. Perfect.

To be a leader is to do the uncomfortable thing. Man up, Mr. President.

I just wrote about this (http://www.realityunwound.com) & couldn’t disagree more.

1.Daschle is a crook. He broke the law. There should be a higher standard, especially for unelected (thereby largely above public accountability)

2. Regardless of his tax-evading, the guy is a socialist health care nut. His ideas are extreme left. Even before we knew he was crooked, every Republican should have voted against his ideas. The tax evasion just gives us the opportunity to have legitimate (read:”non-partisan”) reasons to do it.

Personally, I don’t need any reminders about the substance of King Barry The Hopeful’s administration, much less a certified socialist railroading an already broken health care system.

Don't forget how inept he is.

With him in charge it will be a compete disaster and probably more easily undone than if they were to scrounge up someone with some competency. No matter what, they’re going to ram socialized medicine down our throats. Look on the bright side, okay? This is Daschle we’re talking about and as far as the current Democrat party goes, are there people in it who aren’t crooks? They ostracize them… like Lieberman.

Agree Steph.

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 9:50AM EST (link)

You’re precisely correct.

Consistent with Brad’s presentation here, Dashcle must be confirmed by the Congress to join President Obama in bringing America to whatever end (although all Rs/Cs will fight at every turn.) in the next 4 years.

He'll probably be confirmed...

But it needs to be with *ZERO* Republican votes.

And I thought it was illegal for a former Senator to go straight to lobbying. Oh, never mind. That’s only Republican Senators. The Democrats just call it influence (peddling).
