The guy has the most unblemished conservative credentials. He’s also quietly (or not so, depending on your perspective) built up a nice conservative PAC that has worked a large number of conservative politicians – many of whom owe some loyalty and are currently in Congress. I know it’s too late now, but I sure do wish he’d consider hopping in, should Romney not win by default.
We basically need someone at the Convention to win the nomination, since Romney and his team are going to lay waste to anyone who stands between him and the nomination. They’ve already rolled out a lot of attacks on Santorum, and expect some more. “INCOMING!!!!!”
Santorum, I’d watch your back. And head. And wear some Kevlar. Romney ain’t the saint he wants you to think he is.

DeMint - best bet for needed "Epic Confrontation"
islandjoehhisc Friday, February 10th at 10:02AM EDT (link)No question about it. Should the current lot deadlock at the convention (not a bad outcome), DeMint should be nominated. It would electrify the convention, the party, the ‘tea party’, the nation. The media and ‘world opinion’ would go into a tissy, then we’d have the “Epic Confrontation” with the Statists that is needed. Most of the current candidates know the need for an “Epic Confrontation”, but aren’t going to be able to provide it or have some huge distracting defect. Not DeMint – as close to pure as gold as we’re going to find with failable human beings.
He clearly has not wanted to be distracted from the goal of recruiting another class of true ‘llook ‘em in the eye without blinking’ conservatives for the GOP primaries. But that job will be done by the convention or before. He will not run for re-election to the Senate – he’s made it clear.
Here’s to a deadlocked convention, and a DeMint nomination.
I agree...
brand (Diary) Friday, February 10th at 6:47PM EDT (link)I am hoping for a brokered convention at this point. And I haven’t really gotten any good explanations about what happens at one. I’m going to do some research and post about it, since what I think we keep hearing is a bunch of opinions not based in anything but supposition.
And, one other person I wish would toss his hat in the ring is Paul Ryan. The guy speaks more intelligently about what ails us than anyone.
I wouldn't be opposed...
Dave_A (Diary) Friday, February 10th at 4:38PM EDT (link)DeMint was one of my preferred candidates…
You’d need to tack on a socially conservative, hard-line hawk as his VP though… Santorum would fit that bill….
Economic illiteracy does not serve our cause – seeing inflation where there is none, claiming ‘the deficit’ is raising the price of oil, or adhering to conspiracy theories such as the notion that the Fed’s purpose is to enable government spending….
The truth is just as damning to the Democrats – namely that their policies are the reason that the very ‘speculators’ (futures traders) they demonize are bidding higher prices for oil.
dave_a, i really like your idea of a demint/santorum ticket.
mikeymike143 (Diary) Friday, February 10th at 7:11PM EDT (link)that would work for me

Yes.. Santorum would like nice on the right VP slot, but...
brand (Diary) Friday, February 10th at 6:50PM EDT (link)I like Santorum in everything but the big government solution side of things.
As I mentioned in the previous comment, I wish Paul Ryan would run as well. Either DeMint or Ryan would bring serious gravitas to the Republican Ticket.
I’d like a true rising star on the ticket, like Rubio or one of our lady guvs, like Susana Martinez of New Mexico. Not only would it start to showcase the openness of the Conservative movement, but it would also help the base get truly enthused again.
