Both the House and the Senate return from the August recess today with much to do, including the Fiscal Year 2012 appropriations bills, consideration of patent reform and a bill to commemorate 9/11. The Senate Republican Conference voted to ban earmarks yesterday. A victory for conservatives — Hold on a second. Moments after the announcement some Republicans stated that they would publicly flout the rule and Democrats pledged to fight to protect bloated pork barrel spending. The House has no votes scheduled for Monday and 63 suspension votes scheduled for Tuesday. The House is not in session today. The Senate will debate and vote on the motion to proceed to S.3454, the Department of Defense Authorization bill at 2:15 today.
