This Week in Washington – October 11, 2011
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | October 11th at 09:09 AM |
The President’s ideas on creating government funded jobs and three free trade agreements are two big issues for Congress this week. This week is shortened by the Columbus Day holiday. The House is expected to sent three free trade agreements this week to the Senate and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) to the President’s desk. TAA is a liberal welfare program that provides resources and job traning to those who lose jobs | Read More »
Reid Nukes Vote on Obama Jobs Bill
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | October 6th at 09:46 PM |
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is so terrified of a vote on the President’s American Jobs Act that he used the “Nuclear Option” to block a Senate vote tonight. The Senate was poised to vote on the President’s jobs plan, yet Reid used a tactic to obliterate the legislation without a vote. This is a dangerous game that Senate Democrats play, because Republicans could | Read More »
Ezra Klein of the Washington Post Urges Democrat’s Engage in “Power Grab”
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | July 28th at 10:03 AM |
Yesterday, in the Washington Post, Ezra Klein argued for Democrat Senators to use their power to abolish the filibuster. Ironically, Ezra Klein in 2005 argued that the same tactic when used by Republicans was a “power grab” and an abuse of power. Place Klein’s Washington Post column of 2010 next to the Klein column of 2005 and one might conclude that Klein is a partisan hack. | Read More »
ObamaCare Nuclear Option Deal Close
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | March 11th at 06:00 AM |
Behind closed doors, the Obama Administration, House and Senate Democrat leaders are cutting a secret deal on ObamaCare. They have come up with a way to pass the Senate version of ObamaCare in the House without any House members having to vote directly on the bill. Now The Hill is reporting that the House and Senate Parliamentarians are helping to advise Democrats on how to | Read More »
Abortion May Kill ObamaCare
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | March 4th at 10:01 AM |
The abortion issue may take down ObamaCare, even if Congress pulls the Health Care Nuclear Option in a desperate attempt to pass the bill. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI) declared yesterday that “several Democrats who voted for it the House would oppose it next time around” without removing pro-abortion language in the Senate passed ObamaCare bill. This is a big problem for the proponents of ObamaCare, because under | Read More »

Health Care Nuclear Option Shows Contempt for Public Opinion
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | February 23rd at 10:00 AM |
ObamaCare is not popular. The people don’t want it. The people have rejected it. Yet President Barack Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) are going to ram it down the throats of the American people using a special Congressional procedure that avoids a filibuster in the Senate – The Health Care Nuclear Option. The Obama Administration and Leaders in | Read More »

The ObamaCare Nuclear Option
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | February 17th at 11:13 AM |
Over at NROnline’s The Corner, Daniel Foster wrote an interesting piece where he explained how Vice President Joe Biden could press the button to launch the Senate’s reconciliation Nuclear Option. This strategy is the only way the Democrats can get ObamaCare across the finish line and to the President’s desk in the next few weeks. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s office has come up | Read More »

Filibuster “Reform” On Senate Agenda
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | January 23rd at 05:00 AM |
The ink is yet to dry on Senator-elect Scott Brown’s certification to be the 41st vote against ObamaCare and the left is readying a multi-pronged attack on the filibuster. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) have opened up a front in both the House and the Senate to lower the threshold for Senate leadership to stifle debate and amendment. Don’t be fooled. | Read More »
Vice President Biden v Senator Biden on Filibuster
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | January 19th at 01:02 PM |
The left is organizing a public relations campaign to rid the Senate of the filibuster rule and they intend on using a strong arm tactic to exterminate dissent and debate. With a simple majority vote, many of the same Democrats who were apoplectic about Republican plans to rid the Senate of the filibuster for judicial nominees in 2005, are readying a parliamentary maneuver that they denounced during the Bush | Read More »
