Reid Nukes Vote on Obama Jobs Bill
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | October 6th at 09:46 PM |
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is so terrified of a vote on the President’s American Jobs Act that he used the “Nuclear Option” to block a Senate vote tonight. The Senate was poised to vote on the President’s jobs plan, yet Reid used a tactic to obliterate the legislation without a vote. This is a dangerous game that Senate Democrats play, because Republicans could | Read More »
Federal Jobs Training Program – “Waste, Mismanagement, and Even Corruption”
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | February 9th at 12:00 PM |
Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) has put out yet another excellent report on waste, fraud and abuse in federal job training programs. The report titled “Help Wanted” describes specific instances of “waste, mismanagement, and even corruption.” This report proves, in addition to other reports by Senator Coburn, that the government is a poor allocator of resources. The Coburn report indicates that these federal jobs training programs are | Read More »
So Called Constitutional Option Is A Trick
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | January 5th at 04:00 PM |
The Senate commenced debate on a filibuster reform today. Be aware that liberals in the Senate are using strong arm tactics to seize power. They are using something called the “Constitutional Option” and you need to understand that this is a rhetorical and procedural trick. There is nothing unconstitutional about the filibuster and the “Constitutional Option” is a means to ignore the explicit rules of the | Read More »
Senator Tom Coburn’s Government Wastebook 2010
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | December 21st at 11:30 AM |
Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) has put out a new study on government waste called “Wastebook 2010.” This report proves that the federal government is a poor allocator of resources. Somebody please alert billionares Warren Buffett, Ted Turner, Bill Gates and Tom Steyer that higher taxes will not necessarily lead to a more efficient and effective federal government. Senator Coburn said yesterday that “as 2010 ends, | Read More »
Omnibus Spending Bill Loaded with Earmarks and New Spending
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | December 15th at 09:00 AM |
What do you call the Senate’s Omnibus Spending Bill? An Earmark Bonanza — An Earmark-A-Thon — The Earmark-bus. Clearly, this bill is an outrage to the taxpayer and conservative Senators. The Senate is about to vote on an Omnibus Spending Bill funding the federal government for the year. House and Senate appropriators crafted a bill in secret and, just yesterday, provided text to Senators and the American people. | Read More »
Today in Washington – November 30, 2010
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | November 30th at 11:30 AM |
They just don’t get it here in Washington, DC. The Senate voted today for business as usual — against an amendment by Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) to ban earmarking by Senators. The vote was conducted under a suspension of the Senate’s rules, yet it garnered only 39 votes in favor of an earmark ban for the whole Senate. They love pork on Capitol Hill. | Read More »

The WikiLeaks document release will dominate the conversation inside the beltway today and this week. Tomorrow, the President’s Debt Commission will meet in an attempt to report a package of legislative items to Congress. The Commission needs 14 of 18 members to vote to report any measure and they are operating under a December 1st deadline to settle on a report. Also on Tuesday, the | Read More »

Earmark reform hits phase two this week. Now that House and Senate Republicans have promised not to earmark, the fight goes to the House and Senate Floor. Expect votes in both the House and Senate over the next few months to ban the corrupting and wasteful practice of earmarking for the whole Congress. Today, The House is voting on Senate amendments to a telecommuting bill for | Read More »

The Senate Republican Conference voted to ban earmarks yesterday. A victory for conservatives — Hold on a second. Moments after the announcement some Republicans stated that they would publicly flout the rule and Democrats pledged to fight to protect bloated pork barrel spending. Although the President has pledged his opposition to earmarking, the true test may come soon if Congress sends him an Omnibus spending | Read More »

Not much happening in the House and Senate today. Both parties are conducing elections for leadership positions and amendments to conference rules. It appears as if Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) has won his battle for the Senate Republican Conference to take a 2 year break from earmarking. The House has 6 bills scheduled for a vote on the Suspension Calendar. The Senate is out of | Read More »
Earmark Myth – They Don’t Cost Any Money to Taxpayer
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | November 9th at 07:00 PM |
Americans are hearing the talking point that earmarks don’t cost the taxpayers any money. This simply is not true. Citizens Against Government Waste, a Congressional watchdog group, has put out a report on wasteful projects from Fiscal Year 2010. They identify $16.5 billion in pork. The Congressional Pig Book is CAGW’s annual compilation of the pork-barrel projects in the federal budget. The 2010 Pig Book | Read More »
Some Senate Republicans Push for Earmarks and Budget Busting Spending in Lame Duck
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | November 6th at 09:00 AM |
It didn’t take long for many in Congress to ignore the will of the American people on earmarking special projects for states and districts. The Tea Party movement has a long way to convince members of both parties that the corrupting and wasteful practice of earmarking has to end. Later this month, Senators Jim DeMint (R-SC), John McCain (R-AZ) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) are expected to | Read More »

Senator Tom Coburn (R-O K) put out a report this morning titled “Federal Programs to Die for: American Tax Dollars Send Six Feet Under” showing rampant waste, fraud and abuse in government programs. This report has put together programs totalling $1 billion in federal monies given to the dead. Obama Earmarks $1 Billion in Stimulus Money for Company in Illinois
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | August 6th at 10:15 AM |
The biggest earmark in American history has been doled out to a company in Illinois, the President’s home state, in the name of green jobs. The President’s $862 billion Stimulus plan has been an abysmal failure. It provided states and localities with billions in bailout moneys, funded wasteful projects like the Monkey cocaine study at Wake Forest and given false hope to Americans that the President has | Read More »

Transparency is a tough promise for President Obama to keep. Politico reports today: Four times in the last week, President Barack Obama has quietly slipped into private, exclusive Democratic Party fundraisers around town, glad-handing well-heeled donors away from the eyes of the press – and contradicting his pledge to run the most transparent administration in history. The Senate will debate the nomination of anti gun activist Elena Kagan to | Read More »

Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and John McCain (R-AZ) have put out Summertime Blues to show Americans how their tax dollars are being squandered by President Obama in the name of “Stimulus.” Would you believe that they have found Stimulus money being used to study the effects of how monkeys react under the influence of cocaine? Thank you Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and John McCain (R-AZ) for issuing the report, Summertime Blues.
