Al Franken’s Completely Radioactive

Too Unpopular to Speak for Himself, He Gets His Wife to Discuss Her Struggles

The latest polling from Minnesota shows Al Franken falling far behind in his bid to upset Norm Coleman. It seems that his salacious writings, his record of lawbreaking and hypocrisy, and his negative tone is taking its toll. With that in mind, Franken has gotten his wife — whose struggle with alcohol make her a deeply sympathetic figure — to reintroduce him and testify to his character:

After all the complaints from the Left about Sarah Palin allegedly ‘using’ her family as a prop, this is a stunner. Franken must judge himself awfully far behind to resort to a tactic that they’ve angrily accused Republicans of employing.

Beyond that, the track record of candidates sending out their spouses to fight their battles doesn’t seem very encouraging. It didn’t work for John and Elizabeth Edwards. It didn’t work when former Congressman Don Sherwood’s wife sent a letter to constituents vouching for his character. It didn’t work when Kitty Dukakis stumped for her dispassionate husband.

If history is any guide, you can close the book on Senator Franken’s career before it starts.

Good God she is an alcholic and should be maintaining anonymity and yet he is using her disease and his “ability” to stay with her as a means to get elected….he is a sick, sick excuse for a human being.

    • Pomme

Alcoholic’s Anonymous would be ashamed of Mr Franken!

  • AngstFree

So basically he got his Stuart Smalley material off the FUNNY things his wife had to go through. What? It’s not funny now?

I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Don’t Like Me!

“Vote for me because my wife is an alcoholic and I upheld my marriage vows by supporting her.”

Wow. He did his job. He met his obligation and wants a pat on the back for it. Perhaps he’s more of a senator than we thought.

  • Darin_H

“I’m Al Franken and I approved this message” at the end?

  • Mundy

Seems to me they should slam her. Maybe somebody could send her a couple of bottles of Scope and few vials of vanilla extract.

    Ugh… I’m new… so I don’t know the standard… was that too disrespectful?

the loose! yes, this is a threadjack, but really just breaking news, OJ convicted.

    Great reference, Al.

I’m going to start putting my mommy as a reference on my next job application.

    Remember John Edwards?

      That’s too disrespectful, Mundy.

The lastest polling from the Minneapolis Star Tribune has Franken at a 43% to 34% lead…

Are you sure you want to say that dependence on alcohol or drugs means someone should “maintain anonymity,” or that it isn’t noble to stick by someone when they’ve gone through a difficult thing? I can think of a certain potential first lady who’s been quite public about her addictions… and a presidential nominee who jumped ship when his wife was disabled… HMMM.

do conservatives EVER go over to dKos and leave little brown turds all over the carpet, like you libs do on conservative sites?

DO ANY of you libs actually lead productive lives or do ALL of you live in your parent’s basement and type one-handed?

        • Han_Pritcher

DKos and MyDD are hammered by trolls from the right every bit as often as RS gets hammered by trolls from the left.

          • Moe_Lane

            1) Hate to break it to you, but it’s actually fairly obvious that your sort won’t give Carol a second thought once she’s no longer a perceived political flail. What Obama trolls have against inconvenient women I’ll never know.

            Blam.

            2) Tell ya what: we’ll split the difference.

          • Moe_Lane

…but I’ve wondered from time to time how much of that was actually happening.

I suppose that they might come from YouTube. The blogosphere collectively jumped five IQ points when people realized that you could comment on YouTube.

          • Han_Pritcher

MyDD has very weak moderation so the trolling runs rampant, and not just “concern trolling either.”

DKos has significantly better moderation, so you troll comments/diaries don’t last long.

Neither comes close to you guys here. I’m not indulging in either flattery, Moe. You guys usually don’t delete stuff, but you do deal with it quickly. Part of the charm, actually.

          • Moe_Lane

As I’ve noted before, there is somebody right now reading this giggling to him or herself about how he’s put one over on that idiot Moe Lane.

          • mbecker908

they published a poll and didn’t talk about the internals.

Gee, guess what? Well, thanks for asking, the guys who did the poll talked to 42% Dems and 21% Reps. Gosh.

          • Pomme

            They’re gasp in the tank???

Shocked… Shocked to see gambling going on here!!
