Obama Hit on Licenses for Illegals

Where Were Ads Like This Weeks Ago?

Barack Obama’s meandering, misleading, and confused answer on drivers’ licenses for illegal immigrants was one of the highlights of the Democratic primary debates. Forced to choose between ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ Obama stammered and filibustered before finally answering ‘yes but..’. That position is overwhelmingly unpopular among American voters. A CNN poll last year showed that more than three-quarters of all Americans oppose the idea. That being the case, why has it taken so long to hit Obama’s unpopular stance on the issue?

John McCain is still in this presidential race, but it will take more ads like this one to defeat Obama.

“The One” has decreed that once he is anointed he will defund the Missile Defense system. This at a time when terrorism- sponsoring Iran is developing nuclear weapons. The same Iran that “The One” characterizes as an insignificant little country.
Why doesn’t McCain point out that the only “shield” that “The One” will allow for Americans to protect their children from incoming terrorist missiles is an umbrella?!!

    which is now !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might have been nice to ask this question in the last debate but there’s no way a MSM operative would do this.

Words like Socialist and Radical are winners for us.

Because in Obama’s case it’s the fact!!!

  • ckvball

No issue, gaffe or scandal will hurt him now.

I really wonder if there isn’t something supernatural about him. “Spread the wealth” should have hurt him and didn’t. “Joe the plumber” should have killed him with the working class white voters and didn’t.

Not to mention Ayers, Acorn, Resko, etc…

I’ve never seen a candidate like this.

C’mon, McCain is losing in Missouri by 6 pts! Losing in Nevada by 5! Losing in Colorado by 7! I didn’t think Obama would win any of these, much less them all.

    run on this?

You concisely demonstrate that Obama is “on the record” here. As borne out by the CNN poll you cited and many others since, it’s clear that the vast majority of Americans are in opposition to Obama’s position. Yet, he is not getting called on this.

So the more relevant question is: why has McCain mostly stayed away from this issue? This is a winner for him with no downside. It even fits into the economic debate that is at the forefront. More importantly, if McCain pushed this issue, it would resonate with the independent swing voters he needs.

Obama’s position can only be made an issue if McCain brings it up. Up to now, he does not appear willing to go there.

the issue is whether or not illegal immigrants should be eligible for drivers licenses.

the ad suggests a connection between this issue and the 9/11 terrorists who ‘infiltrated this country.’

but were they not all legal immigrants on student and work visas?

the ad’s content is potent, but its relevance to the issue at hand is questionable.

All you have to do is to remind people of Mohammed Atta 9/11/01 and show this video…..

      • GregInFla

I believe some, if not most, had overstayed their visas. If they have a visa, then the driver’s license would expire on their visa expiration date (or at least it should).

Back last week on CNN a political analyst, Ed Rollins I think, was discussing a conversation he had with a high up individual that he wouldn’t name in the Obama campaign. The campaign official explained three areas that scare them going into the final weeks.

            1. The so called “Bradley Effect”. This individual told Rollins that the Obama campaign is takeing it VERY seriously and has spent a lot of money and time trying to quantify just how much the Bradley Effect will cost them on election day. The reason they are so concerned is that they saw definate evidence of it in the primary where in states like California where polls showed Obama with a 5% lead and he ended up losing to Clinton. The best estimate they could come up with was 1% to 8% in the general, but the estimate varied depending on region or even individual states.

            2. The Obama campaign is very concerned that the 13% undecideds will break strongly toward McCain as he is perceived as the “Safe” choice. They also think that a good portion of the undecideds are actually McCain voters who claim to be undecided in a quasi-bradley effect.

            3. Last, the campaign is concerned that McCain ALWAYS seems to finish strong and exceed expectations and the polls in every campaign he has been in.

Rollins asked the campaign official where the campaign would like to be in the polls on election day to feel confident of victory. The official said that internally they are treating a 1%-5% Obama lead as a very probable McCain victory, a 6%-10% lead as a tossup. Over 10% a probably Obama victory, but the campaign official said he wouldn’t breath easy unless Obama was up 15% on election day.

More than that, what do driver’s licenses have to do with 9/11 at all?

  • Swamp_Yankee

pushed all other issues off the table. The NRA dropped a lot of money and had some nice ads too. Unfortunately, their timing was bad. It was teh middle of the bailout.

This would have had no impact two weeks ago.

      Rasmussen Trend Line

      Date McCain Obama Spread

      10/18/2008 45% 50% Obama +5

      10/17/2008 46% 50% Obama +4

      10/16/2008 46% 50% Obama +4

      10/15/2008 45% 50% Obama +5

      10/14/2008 45% 50% Obama +5

      10/13/2008 45% 50% Obama +5

      10/12/2008 45% 51% Obama +6

      10/11/2008 45% 52% Obama +7

      10/10/2008 45% 50% Obama +5

      10/09/2008 45% 50% Obama +5

      10/08/2008 45% 51% Obama +6

      10/07/2008 44% 52% Obama +8

      10/06/2008 44% 52% Obama +8

      10/05/2008 44% 51% Obama +7

      10/04/2008 45% 51% Obama +6

This would indicate that over a 11 day period from 10-7 to 10-17 that the trend of the movement for voters was towards McCain by 4 points. At this rate, McCain would be ahead of Obama by 2 points on 11-4.
Add to this the fact that Republicans always poll lower than they actually collect in votes.

worked as a CDL instructor. He witnessed incidences of illegals wanting to obtain a license. Once, they even stated they didn’t need to learn how to park! (Talk about 9/11 flashback!)

It has been proven that the terrorists of 9/11 learned how to fly to carry out their horrifying plan. Why not do a similar thing with a big rig?

Those who do not learn the lessons of history are destined to repeat them!

        • GregInFla

You need a driver’s license or passport to get on the plane.

          • QueenOfCups

it more likely to hurt him than to help him, for in Christian lore, the AntiChrist precedes the Messiah.

And I am not talking about devoted Christians who believe this; I’m talking about pop culture Hollywood lore in scary movies that most of us grew up on. People are creeped out by that sort of stuff.

More tough ads like this are needed real fast by both McCain and those running for senate seats. Smith will lose Oregon by running wimpy “Oregon is my home” ads while the DNC is ripping him a new one over and over again.

Other topics that, like the drivers licence issue are very unpopular with voters include:

    Health care for illegals

    No border fence

An insane Global Poverty Act that would require the US to hand over 800 billion more to the UN for foreign aid, during a ressession!

    Raising taxes in a ressession.

More work visas for non US citizens as unemployment is rising.

No more free elections at the workplace.

Election fraud will become even more of a national policy.

The list goes on and on. There is nothing wrong with caring the electorate with the truth.

Finally, Sara Palin could be in an ad using a topic that McCain brought up in the debates but was quickly interruped and cut short. She could mention that she knew what she was in for when she was nominated. Then show all the nasty quotes, signs and T-shirts and “humor” that she has been through. She could then mention that it is alright. She is alot tougher than they are.
