Wanted: Skeptical Economists

Proficiency in the Problems With Keynesian Policies a Plus

According to the Associated Press, ‘only one outside economist contacted by Obama aides… voiced skepticism about the need for an economic stimulus.’ It turns out that that economist was Greg Mankiw (whose blog you ought to bookmark), and he advised President Bush — so his opinion is apparently of questionable value anyway.

With that in mind, House Republican Leader John Boehner wants to hear from credentialed American economists who question whether $1 trillion more in deficit spending for pork-barrel projects is what we need to get the economy moving again. You can sign up here.

Are Obama and the Associated Press wrong about the value of a plan to throw money at the problem? There’s a first time for everything.

and re tarring school roofs will return prosperity to our blighted land. The magic of Federal Dollars spent on stimulus not maintenance won’t be questioned, this way we needn’t ask what happened to those billions previously spent to avoid the potholes and crumbling so remarked by our media.
So spend more money on the same things and this time it will revive an entire national economy, I have to let that sink in.

Bill Samuel AFL/CIO adviser, while on Fox (Cavuto): “Infrastructure – roads and Electric grid…. will more than pay for themselves.” Sure, when they raise the Gas Tax, or make those “Toll” roads, and they raise “Electric Rates” to cover the Grid costs… These DO NOT pay for themselves on their own accord by putting people to work long term generating NEW tax revenues (by having people working, earning, paying Income tax) not just extorting more Taxes from everyone! A GROWTH MODEL!

All of this is just the new Spin on hiding/handing PORK to Democratic States mainly (with some to Republicans for cover and “BI-PARTISANSHIP” lol). Michigan covered ROAD RECOVERY under REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR ENGLER and fulfilled years of broken promises of Democrats…. That was done during a time the State was doing well (under Republican/Conservative leadership) and it could be afforded… Spending money you don’t have on make-work (not saying some of it doesn’t need to be done) doesn’t provide ANY sustaining Economic value (in fact it hurts Auto-repair shops ;-) business).

…having read his stuff even before I started studying Econ, I’d say he knows his stuff, even if he is a neo-Keynesian.

That being said, Mankiw wasn’t an advisor to Bush for very long, after both parties weren’t too fond of his “outsourcing is a good thing” remarks.
