We have a mild case of deflation right now, because what's happening is companies are selling off inventory to try to come up with some cash, plus they are cutting back on replacing that inventory.

So when the economy does turn around, not only are we going to have to deal with the inflationary pressures of the dollar being worth a lot less due to the printing presses rolling, we'll have a shortage of products in the pipeline to meet demand due to some businesses going out of business and those that remain have cut back on production/purchasing.

And we all know what happens when demand outstrips supply.

September was a beginning. There is more to come.

One could make the case that highways and other construction take years; therefor the Title I money is spread out. Of course, Obama should know that many miles of the Edens expressway (I94, Chicago) were completely torn up and replaced within less than four years. http://pubsindex.trb.org/document/view/default.asp?lbid=173280

Of more concern is $12 billion in 2009 Medicaid payments ... stimulating who? Doctors? Hospitals? They won't hire anybody new, create jobs, or order any fancy new medical equipment ... they rent (don't buy) most of the high-tech MRI machinery they use now, for instance.

"Infrastructure" projects just bail out States and Municipalities. Sure, they create jobs, but how many Americans work as ditch diggers, cement finishers, and steel puddlers? Mostly, the ex-politicians or their relatives who run contracting companies will make out like bandits.
