Obama Kicks Off Presidency With Taxpayer-Funded Abortions

Barack Obama is President today because he cultivated a veneer of moderation that made a greater impression on voters than his voting record. On no issue was this clearer than abortion. I’ve talked to committed pro-life voters — evangelicals, catholics, and others — who told me that this country needed change above all. And anyway they assured, this man was clearly not the extremist that he was characterized as.

Never mind his opposition to a partial-birth abortion ban. Never mind his unwillingness to talk about when life begins. Never mind his better-than-NARAL record of supporting abortion rights. Never mind his firm defense of abortion during the Democratic primaries. Never mind his vote to allow minors to cross state lines to get an abortion. Never mind his vote against notifying parents when their children cross state lines to obtain an abortion. Never mind his clear record in support of abortion, throughout his career. This man, I was told, is a moderate.

Well, moderation is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose, but it’s being reported that tomorrow Barack Obama will repeal the existing restriction on the use of taxpayer dollars to finance and promote abortion abroad.

During the presidential election, pro-life groups issued a clarion call to voters telling them their tax money would be used if Obama were elected and saying he would likely reverse the Mexico City Policy immediately after taking office.

The capital publication Congressional Quarterly reports that top Washington officials tell it that the incoming president will reverse the pro-life measure on his first day as president, on Wednesday.

When Obama overturns the limits on global abortions, he will do so over the objections of dozens of members of Congress.

Once Obama puts pen to paper and allows Planned Parenthood to push for more abortions throughout the world — and to do it on Uncle Sam’s dime — how will Obama’s squad of Vichy ‘pro-lifers’ defend him? They’ll probably attempt to shift attention to other things — like all the money that Obama intends to borrow in order to lavish on children who do survive. And they’ll point out that Obama is no more of a pro-abortion militant than Bill Clinton, who also repealed the Mexico City policy during his administration.

They’ll be right of course — on paper he’ll be no worse than Bill Clinton — at least for the time being. Of course, no conservative ever tried to paint Clinton as a friend of pro-lifers, or even a moderate on abortion. If Obama will at least stop trying to play the sensible middle of the roader, his act might eventually be as easy to take as Clinton’s was.

And if you never would have imagined that Slick Willie would compare favorably to Barack Obama when it came to questions like ‘who do you trust,’ and ‘who’s less likely to lie to you,’ we sure have come a long way.

And so it begins....

For years the government

MelZ Wednesday, January 21st at 12:04AM EST (link)

has been cutting what little funding was available for “abstinence” ed while putting more and more funding toward planned parenthood in the name of “comprehensive” ed.

As this “comprehensive” education grows and grows into over 80% of the schools…12% of schools receive abstinence ed….so do teen pregnancies, teen abortions and teen STD rates. It has been happening under the radar for years, now it will be happening right in front of our face, no apologies from the left.

Well no

For years the government has been cutting what little funding was available for “abstinence” ed

from the Boston Globe

Over the last eight years, a cottage industry of “abstinence-only until marriage” purveyors became a McMansion industry. Funding increased from $73 million a year in 2001 to $204 million in 2008. That’s a total of $1.5 billion in federal money for an ideology in search of a methodology. And half the states refused funds to pay for sex mis-education.

So yeah, it’s a bias article, it’s what google coughed up. But it does give hard numbers.

http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2009/01/03/the_truth_about_teens_and_sex/

We can argue about how well the money has been spent… or wasted in this endeavor. Personally, I think it’s been a big waste. Some kids are going to have sex - and those that do should know how to minimize the risks.

Not Again

babaganoush Wednesday, January 21st at 12:05AM EST (link)

Another abortion article? Sheesh. The Republican party will keep shrinking if we continue to sound like a broken record. The pro-life/pro-choice is one litmus test we don’t need.

Not very convincing.

Moe Lane Wednesday, January 21st at 12:09AM EST (link)

With babaganoush's expected reply.......

Kenny Solomon Wednesday, January 21st at 12:21AM EST (link)

Moe, as your caddie-desingate for this post, I’d recommend either a 4-iron, or a 5-iron, depending on the wind from the green.

Then again, if it’s blowing that hard, you may want to consider a 5-wood.

;)

Cheers !

Do you even know what "litmus test" means?

Apparently not, based on your brain-dead comment.

Single Issue Abortion Voters

Kevin Allen Wednesday, January 21st at 12:23AM EST (link)

Polling has consistently shown there are more pro-life than pro-abortion single issue voters. I know that this is just an anecdote but I know several people who only vote Republican when they run pro-life candidates. I know that I don’t vote for candidates who aren’t prolife.

Help stop FOCA

You can go here tinyurl.com/7gx48l to send emails to your Congressman and Senators to oppose FOCA.

Thanks - I did that

Tomorrow, 8am, The Oval Office..... Hey, look over there... It's a rich, white, Republican... We can redistribute his wealth.......

Kenny Solomon Wednesday, January 21st at 12:08AM EST (link)

…………..Quick, give me that exec. order for Planned Parenthood before anybody notices………. zippppp……… OK it’s signed…….. Here ya go. Get that to the GPO and have it distributed fast…… Thanks, Rahm.

What Rahm ? Didn’t catch that.

Keep the media out of it? Of course, silly. Why should we tell anyone what we’re doing ? Just let Matthews know before he goes on the air. He already knows what to say.

Of course you can have my guns……. Bullets first.

And then there's the Born Alive Protection Act

icbm Wednesday, January 21st at 12:45AM EST (link)

which Obama opposed three or four times (depending on how you count it) in his state. That was the worst of all. Allowing doctors to throw out survivors of abortions like dirty laundry is barbaric, all the more so because they are doctors, and Obama’s defense of their practice was possibly the most vile thing he ever did (and that’s saying a lot).

If you haven’t read Father Neuhaus’s speech to the 2008 National Right to Life Convention, I recommend it. It will give you strength in this bleak time (may it pass quickly).

Abortion matters

blogger970 Wednesday, January 21st at 1:17AM EST (link)

Yes, conservative voters must continue to work to protect the unborn. We cannot falter on this issue. We must protect the innocent!

As for Obama, we know he has a crazy record on abortion. However, I don’t see congress letting him get away with his far-left, Pro-Choice agenda. I have spoken with democratic congressmen and senators who told me they will do everything they can to block FOCA from passing.

Through all this, values voters must be diligent in demanding that the Pro-Life movement is respected and taken seriously.

that's encouraging. which democratic congrssmn

are on our side on FOCA, and are there others who are wavering whom we should contact in order to encourage them to oppose FOCA?

March for Life, 01/22/09

This march has been going on every year since 1974. Please come, blog and spread the picture because if past year’s march is an indication, there will be no media coverage except EWTN.
God have mercy on us.

So let's start an Obama body count

Hammer2008 Wednesday, January 21st at 1:33AM EST (link)

(sick loony lefty idea i know but my point is)

Let’s put a watch the ‘uptick’ in such terminations of innocent lives as compared to lives lost in those ‘horrible’ wars, Iraq and Afghanistan, henceforth.

I’m guessing that as the war fronts continue to improve, due to the continued courageous nature of our Armed Forces, deaths will continue to fall.

By the stroke of his almighty pen, President Obama will send thousands of others to their deaths.

As memory serves, if there was one place the Reagan administration, the Vatican City and Arab Middle East countries converged at the U.N., it was to push back against old Europe and communist countries that were hell bent on bringing about what Planned Parenthood does so horrifically well.

Honest question

ArisKatsaris Wednesday, January 21st at 4:46AM EST (link)

I’m not an American, but I’m curious: you pro-life people in the United States, who believe that abortion is murder, do you want women who have abortions to be tried as murderers?

Possibly convicting them to the death penalty even, same as other murderers?

Or do you merely want to fine the women in question? (in which case rich women will simply pay the fine, and it wouldn’t deter them)

This has always been vague to me, but since anti-abortionism is such a strongly felt attitude among Republicans I’d like it clarified, one way or another.

We merely want to stop the practice of killing babies.

Brian Hibbert Wednesday, January 21st at 7:20AM EST (link)

I think most of the punishment phase of the law would be directed at those who perform abortions rather than the mothers, but the punishment isn’t the main point. The simple act of making the operation illegal will stop ethical medical practitioners from performing the procedure. And that is the goal.

That’s the limit of the “conservatives in the mist” game that I’m willing to play….

Socialism doesn’t work. It looks nice on paper, but it’s been tried and it’s failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

Deterence comes from deterring doctors and "other"

mbecker908 Wednesday, January 21st at 9:52AM EST (link)

abortion providers. Them I would charge with first degree murder and would settle for either life without parole or capital punishment. And no, I see no parallel between executing a first degree murderer and aborting an unborn child.

CongressCritter™: Never have so few felt like they were owed so much by so many for so little.

Seems inconsistent to me.

ArisKatsaris Wednesday, January 21st at 11:20AM EST (link)

If abortion is murder, then I don’t see why the person who asks them/pays them to commit murder wouldn’t be similarly punished, or indeed more so. This just seems very inconsistent to me.

But I don’t ask you to see (nor did I mean to imply) a parallel between the execution of a criminal and abortion. These are two different issues, and a person can be perfectly consistent with any of the possible four variations.

You missunderstand our justice system

Brian Hibbert Wednesday, January 21st at 12:18PM EST (link)

if you think that all murderers get a death penalty, then you are grossly mistaken. Only the most horrendous crimes will be eligible for the death penalty in most states with very few of the perpetrators of even them receiving the sentance. Then there are the years of endless appeals and few of the people who originally receive the sentance have it carried out.

Socialism doesn’t work. It looks nice on paper, but it’s been tried and it’s failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

The criminal justice system is inconsistent

mbecker908 Wednesday, January 21st at 5:02PM EST (link)

pretty much across the board. If you don’t realize that, you’ve obviously never had any direct contact with it.

The point of “punishment” is to change behavior and, in part, stop similar crimes from happening again. In this instance, removing the abortion providers serves the same purpose as putting drug dealers and trafficers away for long times as opposed to drug users.

I would have no particular qualms against charging women with something, perhaps a low level felony for a first time conviction and a significantly higher level for a second time around, or maybe a very long period of probation for first offenders that would convert to prison time for a second offense.

My bottom line is to have something that denies access to abortion across the board except in instances where the actual life of the mother is in danger. I’d be willing to add an exception for rape or incest as long as the rape is reported at the time (not two months later) or someone is actually charged with incest. Charging providers takes care of that. I’d also extend the murder charge to everyone in the “provider loop” from the “doctor” to the nurses to the people who answer the phones.

Victims

maddog Wednesday, January 21st at 2:07PM EST (link)

Women are also victims of abortion therefore they would not be penalized any further. The true criminal is the abortionist who performs the procedure (at a profit I might add)
