Earmarks for ‘Great Sex’

The Obama-Reid-Pelosi Debt Bill Has it All

The Obama-Reid-Pelosi debt bill has a lot of interesting spending items in it, and more are being discovered by the day. Take page 153 for example. That’s where you’ll find this gem. Out of $3 billion allocated for ‘prevention and wellness programs’ there’s an earmark specifically for combating STDs:

$335,000,000 shall be used as an additional amount to carry out domestic HIV/ AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually-transmitted diseases, and tuberculosis prevention programs

There are good reasons to oppose this, of course. It doesn’t belong in a ‘stimulus’ bill. It ought to make clear that abstinence is the only sure-fire way to prevent such transmission (at least in most cases). It’s not a proper role of the federal government.

But there’s another reason to oppose it. Look how the CDC has spent such money in the past:

  • A transgender beauty pageant in San Francisco that advertised available HIV testing.
  • Funded an event, also put on by the Stop AIDS Project, called “Got Love? – Flirt/Date/Score” that taught participants how “to flirt with greater finesse.”
  • Funded events called “Booty Call” and “Great Sex” put on by an organization that received $698,000 in government funds.

It’s all in the name of public health. Come up with a program and you might get a grant.

anything from the Obama-Reid-Pelosi triumvirate as a socially transmitted disease and government funding could be sought to fight it, then the debt incurred might be considered worthwhile to eradicate this plague on our country.

Cut out the middle man! I’m sure lots of people would sign up for this job.

  • MelZ

lost all federal/state funding, even though we worked with middle school students on:
    decision making
    peer pressure
    bullies
    drugs
    alcohol
    sex
    etc…..
But money is available for transgender beauty pageants!

How can we possibly compete with this?

…I mean, I could write this stuff.

What did they do? Get drunk and watch “Rent”? I’m pretty sure events involving ANY juxtaposition of the words “booty” “call” “score” and “flirt” will NOT encourage people to be careful about checking their partners for gonorrhea.

    “Stimulus” bill, indeed.

    and it’s not the economy.

I’m against this sort of spending in a stimulus bill as well, but saying that abstinence is the “only way” and therefore we shouldn’t spend money on prevention programs is like saying the only way to keep people from saying something ignorant is to keep your mouth shut and therefore we shouldn’t spend money on education.

However, I guess Faughnan should have just kept his mouth shut before he made that point.
