Democrats String Taxpayers Along

Now They're Delaying Votes on Completed Spending Bills to Protect the 'Stimulus'

While Barack Obama talks about trying to build bipartisan support for the Obama-Reid-Pelosi spending package, he and his fellow Democrats are simultaneously trying to hide the other elements of his spending agenda until this one passes. That’s why there’s no detail currently available on the next bank bailout, the Big 3 bailout, the president’s health care reform plan, or the 5-year transportation reauthorization that Congress will pass this year.

And now it’s clear that the Democrats in Congress will not pass the bills that fund the federal government for 2009 until after the ‘stimulus’ is done:

House Democratic leaders are punting on the omnibus spending bill until after the Presidents Day recess, a shift that increases the possibility that Congress will have to consider another continuing resolution to keep the government operating.

The House will likely finish its work on the bill sometime before March 6, “in the two weeks after we come back” from the mid-February recess that kicks off on Feb. 13, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Tuesday.

The delay in moving the package of leftover fiscal 2009 spending bills puts Democratic leaders right up against the March 6 expiration of a continuing resolution that has kept much of the government funded at fiscal 2008 levels. Failure to send the omnibus to the White House before that date means Congress will have to pass another temporary spending measure to keep the government funded.

The bill was originally slated for House debate this week but slipped as House leaders await Senate action on their biggest legislative priority: the $819 billion economic stimulus package.

Drafting of the 2009 omnibus spending bill was completed in December, according to reports. It was originally going to be considered before inauguration, but it has been constantly deferred. The total pricetag for the bill is in excess of $400 billion.

Why do Congressional leaders keep putting it off? Because they recognize the public will have a hard time swallowing a $1 trillion emergency ‘stimulus’ bill fresh on the heels of a $400 billion spending bill. Further, leaders want to make sure that all their priorities are addressed in the emergency spending bill. But if they’re not, they’re holding another spending bill in reserve, and any items that were dropped will get put in there.

Congressional Republicans must insist that Obama and the Democrats come clean about all the spending coming down the road. Congress will ultimately be asked to approve $2-$3 trillion of new spending this year — outside the regular federal budget. Congress must insist they have the whole tab before they start deciding on pieces of it.

This bill was introduced by Alcee Hastings on 1/22/09.

Please pay attention to Section 2, Item 4- to meet other appropriate needs as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

I don’t know if there is any link to Obama’s desire to have his own Civilian Army, as well funded as the military.

The bill has a price tag of $180,000,000.

they better start preparing for the Border Security we don’t have to actually secure a War-like hostile one (already happening in some places will Mexico bring down the US) and finally forcing a real Armed Force deployed to “SECURE” it …..

      • JustLeaveMeAlone

because there will be millions of Mexicans flooding the border.

Rick Perry will call out the National Guard here in Texas, but I’m not seeing how they will be able to stop the flow. To few of them; too many sympathizers behind our own lines who will enable the flow; and how do you turn away all those terrified refugees?

It’s amazing to me how few people are talking about this. Me, I’m stocking up on ammo, bottled water, and canned goods, while brushing up on my Spanish. I never thought of myself as a survivalist nutjob, but I’m fast turning into one.

And what will Obama do? Why, he’ll take off his jacket, loosen his tie, and have a chat with the Mexican drug lords. No doubt his press sec will put out a craftily worded communique about the need for mutual understanding and respect and how we need to live together as neighbors.

Meanwhile, this creates huge opportunities for Hugo Chavez and his friends such as Iran and North Korea. Wouldn’t they love to have another “friend” on our Southern border?

There’s a silver lining in every cloud, however. Homeland Security could single-handedly create a few million jobs for new border patrol agents. They could stand shoulder to shoulder from Brownsville to Chula Vista.

Ob1kenobe says the military can’t achieve the
“national security objectives that we’ve set.”
Care to take a stab at what that means?

It ain’t about securing the border. The US military could lock that down in a few weeks, if authorized.

Sounds as though a budding diary may be in the making.

Perhaps it’s because the military will obey the constitution and posse comatus.

Oh, wait, George Bush (R) signed HR5122 effectively neutering Posse Comatus 10/17/06. Declare Martial law and old no.1 can send federal troops anywhere in the US he pleases.

It also allows Prez to seize control of State National Guard units without the Governor’s approval.
So, not sure why he needs his own thugs to enforce his will on US citizens.

Perhaps its because the US military is made up of America’s finest who may be hesitant to fire on fellow citizens for political purposes while Obamas lackeys could draw from gangs and the lowly educated, easily led by the dollar bill to do his bidding on their fellow citizens, especially when they knew they were untouchable for their crimes.

Watch this issue closely. It may be the most serious issue to date, despite all the other craziness the loonies have introduced.
