Rangel: ‘Fixing’ Health Care to Cost More than $1 Trillion

I guess the Democrats are going to buy America some really great health care; they clearly don’t plan to be frugal with our money:

Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.

Democrats will work on the bill’s details next week as they struggle through “what kind of heartburn” it will cause to agree on how to pay for revamping the health-care system, Rangel, a New York Democrat, said today. He also said the measure’s cost will reach beyond the $634 billion President Barack Obama proposed in his budget request to Congress as a down payment for the policy changes.

Asked whether the cost of a health-care overhaul would be more than $1 trillion, Rangel said, “the answer is yes.”

No wonder Democrats are using blackmail to ram the bill through Congress.

I wonder if Rangel will include some of the pork-barrel projects that have made their way into the Senate bill:

  • A “Community Makeover Program” to spend billions to beautify streets, up to $10 per person in selected communities;
  • Fund a federal government program to build new sidewalks and bike paths, and put up street lights;
  • Finance new grocery stores and farmers’ markets;
  • Revoke employers rights to provide free wellness benefits to employees;
  • Mandate that a new Washington health police bureaucracy dictate what local restaurants can offer their customers; and,
  • Subsidize community projects like building jungle gyms in parks.

Right now America is spending 11 percent more on health care than any other nation. Why do Democrats think that throwing more money at the problem is going to make things better?

Reducing costs?

Wasn’t Obama’s goal to reduce the cost of health care? How does levying massive new taxes on the public reduce costs?

“In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” - Thomas Jefferson

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence (OBAMACARE – mine), the money of their constituents.” – James Madison

The next time I need to sober up, I'll just down some shots

great the gov can ruin food co-ops and farmers markets!

Please stay out of this Uncle Sam!!! I buy most of our food at a food cooperative. I get excellent service and find it to be a very cost effecient way to feed us.The prices will jump right up if you get involved more than you already are! Believe it or not we don’t need the government to help us with this! Moms have food co-ops all over the country with other families in places where store based co-ops or health food stores are not available.

Please don’t restrict foods served when people are buying a meal. We need calories to survive. It’s none of your business in the first place. Since you are making it your business, if you care at all about the homeless you won’t do this. When you only have $1 to eat the fatter and more calories it has, the better. Maybe you should try it. Take $5 from your wallet and survive on that from Monday - Friday. Did you pick the $5 salad or the $1 burger at Wendy’s? I bet by Thursday you couldn’t even eat your whole $1 burger. The more calories those first three bites that your stomach can only hold now the better. Maybe on Friday you will consider working to reduce sales tax in your local area after seeing it was the difference between eating and not because you didn’t quite have a $1 nevermind $1 + tax left after buying $1 burgers the other days.

well if Rangel says...

…it will cost $1T you can bet it will be double that, and he is finding a way to funnel some of that into his own pocket so he can keep up his 3 rent controlled apartments and vacation property that he doesn’t pay taxes on.

Hey cannedjam
