Maxine Waters Fights With David Obey Over ‘Monument to Me’

Roll Call carries the most detailed account of the incident:

The confrontation began with the two talking in each other’s faces and gesturing animatedly with their hands. Obey then attempted to walk away, but Waters kept following him. Obey then put his hand on Waters arm and shoulder, and Waters became irate.

Obey again turned away, dismissing Waters by throwing up his hands, but Waters continued to stalk him, talking to his back and making a shoving motion.

Waters followed Obey down to the well of the House, and as the confrontation — and shoves — continued, Obey turned and told her: “You are out of line.”

To which Waters retorted: “You are out of line.”

“I am not going to approve that earmark!” Obey exclaimed, then hustled away from Waters.

Waters then retreated to a group of fellow members of the Congressional Black Caucus, but her conversation could be heard from the press gallery.

“He touched me first, he pushed me first!” she said. She the left the House floor, while Obey discussed the incident with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).

It’s entirely possible that this affair will be settled quickly, with a mutual apology, and with Waters behaving like a grownup. The only thing stopping it is that Waters has never behaved like a grownup before.

So we have Rep. Alan Grayson shoving photographers, Rep. Tim Bishop running from constituents, New York State Senate Democrats locking their rivals out of the chamber, and now Waters and Obey fighting on the House floor. Do Democrats not understand that elected representatives are expected to maintain a minimum level of civility?

I had the following thoughts about this and it’s all kind of nasty.

Too bad they didn’t get into an all-out, knockdown, drag-out brawl.

She’d have probably charged him with sexual assault, racism and anything else she could think of. He’d have probably charged her with assault and whatever else he could think of.

But almost instantly after filing charges with the House Sergeant-At-Arms, they’d look at each other and say in unrehearsed unison….. “It was all Bush’s fault !”

    Cheers !

but it still wouldn’t have been reported in the MSM as the continued outbreak of Democrats loosing their minds on the Fast March to Socialism. They just cannot Spend us into Bankruptcy fast enough.

    Obey shouldn’t be so cheap.

If these people were at all creative, they would do all of this as a Cage Fight in the Rotunda of the Capital, and then put it on Pay-per-View. The proceeds could go to pay for one of their many spending initiatives….but of course, that’s too free-market/entrepreneurial for them. They’d rather just use our money and run up the defecit.

Seriously, I do waver over who is the stupidest member of Congress, but always come back to Maxine Waters….her efforts to match wits with Bank of America’s Ken Lewis a couple of months ago was so much fun to watch. But the runner-up award would have to be Marcy Kaptur, who was barely literate this AM, reading her staff-prepared questions as she tried to question Ben Bernanke.

Sheila “why walk half a block every day when I can use a taxpayer-funded limo instead” Jackson-Lee has to rank high on any such list.

Check out the first 15 seconds of this Baron Hill video.

I bet you never heard anyone start a speech with “I reserve the right to advise and approve my remarks.”

I wonder if she exercised her right to “advise and approve” her remark about Neil Armstrong planting our flag on Mars.

Friends have sent me several dumb comments from him recently. His “advise and approve” opening is a classic, but he has lots of others.

Jackson-Lee is much like Waters – elected and guaranteed a permanent seat due to gerrymandering, and using that to make herself feel important by belittling white men whenever possible.

And of course we didn’t even include Barbara Lee or Pete Stark, who certainly belong high on any top ten list of dumbest congresscritters. Between those two and Maxine, some would argue CA deserves the top three spots.

How can we be having a “Dumbest Congresscritter Contest” and not include UF’s own Corrine Brown?
