Ronald Reagan Tackles Obamacare

In case you hadn’t realized that this debate is decades old:

Democrats frequently say that they have been fighting to bring us national health care ever since FDR, and that is true. The United States has had an even dozen president since FDR (inclusive), and none has signed a national health care plan into law. Democrats don’t seem to realize that there’s a reason so many presidents and so many Congresses have decided not to take over the health care system.

It’s because our system – warts and all – is the world’s best. Clearly, it can be improved significantly – but not by putting government in charge. What Washington must do is get out of the way. Real reform will put patients in closer contact with their doctors, and give them control of key health care decisions.

Or to put it another way, keep your laws off my body.

    I had an argument with my cousin recently about the high cost of her doctors. She was upset that her doctors could charge $XXX for “test y” and how the government needed to make him charge only $X so she could afford it.

    My response was, “Keep the government out of it and find a doctor willing to charge you $X for the same test. That’s how the markets are supposed to work.”

        Their recent reactions to the ‘angry mobs’ typifies what’s wrong with Liberals. They sincerely believe that they deal in indisputable, absolute truths no matter how tenuous their proposals or how many times their recycled “new” ideas fail. If you disagree with Liberals, you are either a Nazi, a racist, a jingoist, retarded or mentally ill. I am a conservative living in New York and, consequentially, most of my social circles look at me like a child molester who was released from jail due to a legal technicality. My Liberal peers know me to reasonably intelligent and I hold my own when political discussions arise. I am seen as an anomaly. More accurately, they see me as somehow severely flawed. It is clear to them in their sordid reality that people like myself who point out that times were good under the Reagan years are insane. What confounds me is that they lived and prospered mightily during the Reagan years. Go figure.

      A conservative is a former liberal who was mugged by reality.

      What makes Reagan’s remarks so prophetic are that Liberal ideas are not new. In fact, most are old, failed projects that they simply repackaged and pitch as new and visionary. Seriously, they actually believe that redistribution of wealth, nationalized health care and an assembly of philosopher kings are new ideas. Reagan sounds like a genius because he heard these tired and futile arguments time and time again. Obama, like most liberals and socialists, are under the impression that socialism is the greatest political ideal but it’s never been executed properly.

    He was right then and he is right now. Look at what a giant mess medicare has become. And look how many other federal programs have come about since.
