Bill Owens: Move Health Care “As Rapidly As Possible”

Democrat Bill Owens wants to succeed former Congressman John McHugh in New York’s 23rd congressional district. McHugh was a faithful representative of the center-right views of his district; in contrast, Owens is doing his best to earn the support of the extreme Left of the Democrat party.

For example, here’s Owens during his opening statement in last night’s candidate debate:

owens-healthcare-reform

Congress needs to overhaul the world’s best health care system ‘as rapidly as possible?’

Who does that sounds like?

Today Speaker Pelosi – whom Owens will support if elected – debuted her health care bill. It’s a freight train of big government. It costs $200 billion more than the $900 billion Pelosi claims it costs. It puts government in charge of private insurance rates. It contains 13 new tax hikes.   It makes marriage counselors Medicare providers. It includes a ‘millionaire’s tax’ on people making $500,000.

How can Bill Owens pretend to be mainstream, when he supports a massive expansion of government, federal intrusion into private health care, and huge new taxes on working Americans?

According to the news sources the vote won’t be until Nov 5th.

So many elections and so little time…

Nothing like waiting for the outcome of those to decide whether to vote yea or nay, eh?

even so-called “moderate” Dems will vote No: thus speaks DIck Morris in his latest Newsmax article.

    See: http://www.newsmax.com/morris/harry_reid_public_option/2009/10/29/279051.html

An excerpt: (“he” refers to Reid)

“First he veers left in order to then swing right.

His next move is predictable. As he awaits House action, he stands firm in backing the public option. And as he nears the point of a Senate floor vote, he will pretend to modify that option in order to attract moderates and perhaps a few stray Republicans.

As he and Sen. , D-Mont., did in committee, he will truncate or even abandon the public option to win unanimous Democratic support (and perhaps one or two Republicans).

Then, in conference with the House, he will pull the old bait-and-switch tactic again, jettisoning the Senate bill and embracing a full-throated public option in the final version that will return to the Senate.

At that point, he hopes to use the momentum of House passage and the imprimatur of the conference committee to try to persuade senators, and the public, that it is this bill or no bill and that only a proposal with a robust public option can pass.

The point of this strategy is never to ask moderates to vote for a public option until the final vote after the conference committee.”

    (End of quote)

If we had a responsible level of journalism in America, these amazingly arrogant tactics – and their contempt for America – would be exposed, and Reid and company would be sucking their thumbs and rocking back and forth in a corner.

Dingy Harry seems to have completely lost his marbles and is forcing moderate Senate Dems to vote on the public option before it goes to conference. Moreover, Comrade Pelosi just threw a sabot in the gears by announcing the House vote before the Senate vote. For the strategy to work it needed to come out of the Senate before it was indelibly clear the House version would have a public option. The opt out clause doesn’t get them out of the woods. Even Joe Liberman sees through that.

*can’t bring myself to say “rational” because that clearly doesn’t apply. Not even sure “thinking” is appropriate, but it at least implies some consistent logic system that is at least tenuously attached to reality, which is the concept I’m going for here.
