Joe Biden: A Humble Guy With Much to be Humble About

Just a little nugget from ‘Game Change,’ the book that has produced so many interesting tales from the 2008 campaign:

As Bayh was being scrutinized as a potential running mate for Barack Obama in 2008, Bayh arranged for a $5,000 doctor’s consultation to ensure that his recent weight loss did not indicate a health problem, according to the latest book on the 2008 presidential campaign…

Bayh was a finalist along with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden…

When she didn’t get the nomination and tried to guess whom Obama would choose, Clinton thought Biden had the best shot and Bayh the second-best.

Biden also thought he was the favorite, according to the book. Hearing in August that the others being vetted were probably Bayh, Kaine and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Biden is quoted as saying, “If that’s the group, I’m the guy.”

In one sense, I see what Biden means. Among Evan Bayh, Tim Kaine, and Kathleen Sebelius, there’s not a single heavyweight. I differ with Biden only in my view that that team of lightweights turns into a team of midgets with the addition of Biden. And for what it’s worth, it seems Barack Obama ultimately came around to my way of thinking.

Information like this makes me wonder if the Democratic Party will find a way to force Joe Biden to exit (health, more time with family, an “unforgivable” gaff that is leaked, etc.) to give Obama a shot in the arm for the next election. The running mate possibilities are endless.

Of course, if Hillary Clinton doesn’t run against Obama in the 2012 primary, it seems possible that she would join the ticket (and she would be positioned to run by herself the next time, regardless of the results). She’s five years younger than Biden, and is somehow avoiding the negative polling numbers being suffered by the rest of the Obama administration. It might be a tough ticket to beat.

May God deliver us from such a fate.

Most folks I know would rather have her.

she’s been mostly invisible since taking office as Sec. of State. For many, they might not even associate her with Obama since she’s rarely anywhere around him. Obama’s policy of keeping her out of the limelight might just backfire on him.

Hillary may be keeping herself out of the limelight, or any light for that matter so she can run against Obama in 2012 if Obama’s numbers are in the tank. That is a fear of mine as many still love the Clinton’s and still think of Bill as the real first black president. I think the Clinton’s are every bit as bad as Obama, but, they lie so much better, and more convincingly.

as most are former Clinton people already. Has anyone heard anything from Sandy Berger lately?

They’ll have to have someone who can give O a boost– time will tell if Hillary can do that. Don’t see the Dems throwing out O unless he makes a huge misstep. After all, that would make them racists, wouldn’t it?
