Are the Attacks on Herman Cain Actually Helping Him?

Anyone can see that there is a concerted effort by Ron Paul supporters to attack Herman Cain. The reason is obvious: Herman Cain’s performance in the South Carolina debate sucked the oxygen out of the Ron Paul campaign. Paul–a fringe candidate at best–was depending heavily on making a show in the SC debate to drum up early enthusiasm (and donations) for his 2012 run.

But an unexpected thing happened in the debate. Herman Cain not only won the debate, he dominated it. Ron Paul was reduced to making the most outrageous statments he could think of in an attempt to garner any attention what so ever (calling for the legalization of not just marijuana, but heroin). Ron Paul came away from the SC debate empty handed, and if things don’t change that’s how Paul will come away from future debates as well. As of now, it looks like the 2012 Ron Paul campaign is (like Newt Gingrich’s) DOA.

Any YouTube, news story comment section, or internet forum making any mention of Herman Cain was suddenly flooded with anti-Cain posts. This was no accident. Just spend a little time on any Ron Paul forum and you’ll see they’re talking about two things: (1) how to support Ron Paul, and (2) how to destroy Herman Cain.

The plan seems to be to highlight Herman Cain’s time with the Federal Reserve Bank; portraying it as an evil institution bent on taking over the world along with its Illuminati masters (and no, I’m not being sarcastic; I’ve seen a number of these posts mention both the Federal Reserve and the Illuminati).

Now for the typical Ron Paul supporter (as well as the fans of George Noory’s “Coast to Coast” radio show) this is a powerful argument. But to non-Paul supporters (the 99.8657% of Americans who don’t know the correct procedure for folding a tin-foil hat), it doesn’t come across as negative at all. In fact, it comes across as a huge positive for Herman Cain.

Without the (unintended) help of Ron Paul’s supporters, Herman Cain would still be fighting the stereotype that he’s just a “pizza man.” But now, he’s know across the internet as an expert on the Federal Reserve System, the nation’s money supply, macro-economics, and national/international finance. Given that the biggest challenges facing the next president will be financial, this kind of knowlege and experience will be a huge plus for any candidate–again, at lest in the minds most voters (the 99.8657% of voters that are not Ron Paul supporters).

Are the attacks on Herman Cain by Ron Paul supporters actually helping Cain? Yes they are, because they have exposed something about Herman Cain to the public that most people didn’t know about–that he has an impressive background at the highest level of fianance.

Leave it to the Paulistines, in their well-documented ignorance, to raise the profile of the one who they would tear down, just as the media raised Sarah Palin’s profile as it tried to crush her.

This is doubly sweet because the Mainly Seditionist Media have, thus far, been trying to ignore Cain. Either strategy could have worked, but the effect they have here is to cancel one another out.

Thanks to Ron Paul’s botnet*, more and more people are learning about Cain – thus there are more and more questions about why the media isn’t covering Cain…

The winners in all this are We The People; Cain will be heard, and we may actually finally get to that conversation on race (as we were falsely promised by Obama..) as well as a very strong conservative candidate.

Ha ha. Like they would make any difference in anything. All they do is suck a small percentage of voters away from a real candidate every time he runs. They’re nutty to begin with. You can’t reason with nutty.

Now I like RP but he’s a little long in the tooth. His time has passed plus the odds are low that a congressman could win. I really don’t see a change from 2008, perhaps a little growth in support but libertarian principles have never taken hold with conservatives and independents.

With RP we have to remember that LP’s support Open Border’s which conflicts with national defense and both parties desire to control illegal crossings and terrorism. Not sure how RP can walk the LP line and get elected president.

From what I’ve read elsewhere it’s the Palin and Bachman supporters that are trying to shoot him down. If you are a Cain supporter that’s what I’d be worried about. The three candidates have some overlap in potential voter support groups. With so many candidates vying for similar groups of voters this type of thing is inevitable. It’s bad for the Republican party. If Cain is going to make up some ground in the polls, he will necessarily have to do it at the expense of Palin and Bachman.

because every baseless attack of Obama in 2008 made him stronger, grew support and it gave him free advertising to those who undecided and threw support to BO. This will work to Cain’s advantage. Baseless attacks also serve as a test to a candidates character, ability to deflect and defend and as a way to gauge intellectual prowess.

I like to have a run up to the primaries, with candidates coming out with attacks on each other. It helps me do research and find the truth about candidates. This flushes out any possible problem the democratic opposition might bring out later. This also helps make the candidates stronger and focus their message and delivery.

I looked into an issue the RP folks had brought up besides the Fed issue. It was the claim that Cain was a member of the NACC, an offshoot of the SPP. I did a couple of hours worth of scouring the internet to research it. I was able to determine from documents out there that he wasn’t a member of the NACC. I took all that info and updated Cain’s Wikipedia entry that had the false info. I know that will anger the RP folks but that’s life!

Candidates are going to get their Wikipedia page both vandalized and updated with wrong info, it’s the way it is. But if you’re watching you can catch and revert or otherwise keep their page updated correctly.
