McCain's ad campaign finds its cojones

HT to Drudge for pointing out this beauty of a campaign ad from John McCain. I take back what I said about JM not having the ‘nads to run an aggressive campaign. It is perfect timing for this particular ad, given The Obamessiah’s cult-of-personality trip overseas.

As the Guinness guys say, “BRILLIANT!”

This is just a good beginning for McCain. Hopefully he will not be goaded by NYT/NBC into fetus position again.

In order for him to win, he has to aggressively define bambi as an empty suit full of huge ego.

I think it’s a big mistake for McCain and the Right to try to attack Obama for being “arrogant” or having a “big ego” or whatever variations on that theme.

The Left tried this EXACT same thing with George W. Bush when he ran – and since he’s been in office – and it did not work.

GW as “arrogant” has been a constant meme of the Left for the past 8 years, and it just doesn’t stick.

The reason it doesn’t stick is based on two reasons:

    • There is a very THIN line between arrogance and confidence; hubris and leadership. One man’s strong and confident leader is another man’s foolhardy egotist.

Arrogance is just such a subjective notion and is purely in the eye of the beholder. So the only people who buy into the idea are the ones who are already predisposed to dislike that candidate.

Do people on the Right perceive Obama as “arrogant? Sure. But they’re already predisposed to not liking him. Do millions on the Left view George W. Bush as “arrogant”? Yup, they sure do. But they already don’t like him.

    • It is very difficult to call someone “arrogant” without sounding like you’re whining. Wahhh, he’s arrogant. He thinks he’s sooo great. It just sounds like high school stuff.

McCain should be attacking Obama on substance and judgement. Not this vague, echo chamber-y stuff about him being arrogant and presumptuous and full of ego.

Per Moe’s diary…it’s quite entertaining to read the newspaper stories on the web and see the comments from the apoplectic leftists who are bent out of shape that THEIR MSM is doing that to them. Now all of a sudden they’re not so pleased with the Obamedia.

So, roth, it ain’t just us. His ego is so big that even his bestest friends see it.

It covers three issues: Leadership ability, higher taxes, and energy independence.

I don’t think the ad even hints at an ego problem. The Britney/Paris comparison suggests that a popular person is not necessarily someone you want running the country.

I guess it is telling that the top of the page of the our guy is the other guy. This will definitely be a referendum on Obama and it is important to realize this. Apparently, McCain of the fact. Nonetheless the strategy of going exclusively and heavily negative has its pitfalls, particularly with McCain’s reputation.

It is already appearing that McCain is a little, unhinged, petty, angry man who has nothing to offer the country. Obama’s positives are coming down, but how much will McCain’s negatives go by using this scorched earth strategy? That might be the central early question of the campaign

  • Moe_Lane

    Amusing.

to construct coherent sentences, so that people can follow your intent… and as for going negative, you might follow your own advice.

Again, the same “He’s Arrogant” narrative was built around George W. Bush, and it came to nothing.

The Left tried with earnest to make this a character issue about GW, and it was useless.

The same will happen with this line of attack on Obama.

when their man-god gets questioned? Heck, most of us will be the first to admit that McCain’s not perfect. But if the Holiness of The Obamessiah is marred, then they start to shake uncontrollably.

  • afuel

Amazing that someone could see and hear this McCain video and come off with that analysis.

The lefty kool aid must have some seeing & hearing things.

To clarify, I was responding to the very first poster in this thread. Not the video itself.

If you read the initial Reply to this post, the poster said: “In order for him to win, he has to aggressively define bambi as an empty suit full of huge ego.”

As I’ve said, I disagree with that recommendation strongly. It has been tried for years on George W. Bush and didn’t work, and won’t on Obama.
