Schizophrenic America

Schizophrenia:  A form of psychosis marked by a strong tendency to dissociate oneself from reality. Schizophrenia is often characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and inappropriate reactions to situations. The word schizophrenia is often used informally as well as scientifically to indicate a split personality. (from The American Heritage® New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition)

One thing I’ve always agreed with was the title of Michael Savage’s book “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder,” as it seemed to be such an obvious explanation for why the left is so devoid of logic.  And perhaps it’s also an explanation for the results of the latest polls on Obama, the economy, deficits, etc.  I can think of no other excuse than mass public schizophrenia.

A couple of things stand out.  First, the mere fact that Obama was elected in the first place when it was so patently obvious what the man was planning for the nation.  ”Joe the Plumber” came to the fore when he persuaded Obama to admit that he was planning to “spread the wealth around” - aka. socialism.  Yet the schizophrenic American public ignored it.  Now what?  Almost 70% of Americans disagree with the administration’s government takeover of the auto industry.  (Were you people blind?)  Obama admitted before the election that this would happen.  Sarah Palin was right - Obama is a socialist.  This should not be a surprise.

Next we have the so-called “stimulus” and the unprecedented, massive budget deficits that come hand-in-hand with Obama’s Keynesian spending orgy.  Yes, the economy was in the tank when the election occurred, and that undoubtedly had a profound impact on the election results.  Yes, Barry, we know - you won, and as a result you have the ability to do…and spend…whatever you want.  But oddly, poll after poll shows that the public supports the economic “stimulus” plan…yet there is a large and growing concern about the size of the deficit.  A CBS/NYT poll from this week shows that 90% - NINETY - think that the deficit is a somewhat or very serious problem.  But people still support the deficit-laden stimulus. There’s no other explanation than American schizophrenia.

Even more incredible is the perception of the source of the deficits.  A WSJ/NBC poll from this week shows that 46% believe that the Bush Administration is responsible for the deficit problem, while only SIX percent believes it is Obama.  SIX.  Folks, this is not hard to understand.  Behold:

The Bush deficit spending was child’s play.  But I can’t help but think that we, Republicans and conservatives, are partially responsible for this perception - we’ve spent the last few years complaining about Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, etc… and it seems people were listening.  Now George Bush is the fall guy while Obama skates and is permitted to spend like one of the Real Housewives.

We must pin the deficit on Obama just as we have the Guantanamo closing.  This is Obama’s deficit.  This must be repeated over and over and over again, in blogs, in Twitter tweets, in letters to the editor of newspapers.  That Heritage graph should be emblazoned in the minds of every one of the American schizophrenia sufferers out there.

Perhaps it’s not schizophrenia.  Maybe it’s Americans doing what little children do when they cover their ears and chant “I can’t hear you…I can’t hear you…” when their parents scold them and tell them something they don’t want to hear.  Because gosh darn it, Obama is so darned nice and likable, and jeez, he can even catch flies with his bare hands!  How can we not like him?  How can we not support him?  How could we dare blame anything on him?  After all, he’s not George W. Bush!

No, sorry, I think it is schizophrenia.

Think of More as Attention Deficit Disorder

ehosterman Friday, June 19th at 8:55AM EDT (link)

Americans tend to not pay a great deal of attention to what the government is actually doing versus what they say they are doing via the media. With most of the old media in the tank and lying for Obama, it’s understandable that much of the public has mispercetions about the cause and responsibility for the deficits. However, as unemployment continues to rise and gas hits $4 /gallon again, they’ll start to pay attention. Should be in time for the 2010 congressional elections. Also, if something blows up internationally, that will also get their attention.

I've often wondered if Obama's "popularity" is more a factor

Praying Friday, June 19th at 9:30AM EDT (link)

of our fear in admitting we don’t really like him all that much personally. Why the fear? Because the left will cry “RACIST” and there seems to be nothing more terrible in the mind of a 21st century American than being called RACIST. The heck with PC. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then chances are very good that it is indeed, a duck. I feel like I’m reliving Han Christian Anderson’s tale of The Emperor’s New Clothes. Only a child was honest enough - and bold enough - to state the obvious “But mommy, the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes…” Where is that child today?

Multiple "children" are saying that the emperor has not clothes

I have no animus for Obama

kyle8 Friday, June 19th at 9:28PM EDT (link)

In fact I despised the gregarious and convivial Clinton because he was such an obvious phony.

Obama is less of a phony and more of just a clueless lefty. But I don’t have any ill feeling for him. In fact I have almost no feeling for him one way or the other.

Some of the people in his administration however, I despise.

I think he is more than a "clueless lefty."

In fact, I think he is quite clever and crafty. After all, look at all the people he fooled.

But you’re right, I despise many around him who I see as more experienced and downright evil intentions towards the country.

Obama makes me think better of Clinton

tcgeol Friday, June 19th at 10:04PM EDT (link)

Clinton was a lefty, sure, but while he wanted to enact some of the left’s agends, he was more out for himself. He wanted the power and popularity. Having said that, I don’t think that he hates America - he just didn’t care.

Obama is a die-hard leftist, who I believe does hate America as we are, and wants to destroy the foundations of our country, so that he can rebuild it in a marxist fashion. His intentions are much worse than Clinton’s ever were, I believe.

Just your typical bitter gun- and God-clinger

The frightening thing is, I think you're right.

penguin2 Friday, June 19th at 10:15PM EDT (link)

I see Obama as having a cultural disconnect to the country, and his ideology is definitely Marxist.

Because of those two core differences from mainstream America, he will be the most destructive to the very foundation of this nation.

Zerobama is not intelligent as much as he is sly...

DONTREADONME Friday, June 19th at 10:22PM EDT (link)

I have seen nothing to lead me to believe his IQ exceeds 115. He may be clever and sly with his talk and rhetoric, but he is running on the euphoria of his base rather than any logical thought. None of his ideas have any real thought behind them, and they have been all tried before. The only difference here is the U.S. has a large amount of capital to take and redistribute. Socialism relies upon capitalism to fuel its Utopian desires, once the capital runs dry, well we know how that will turn out.

That said, he is a slick talker with the teleprompter, frankly my wife and I can not stand his voice or his speech. He has an utterly repulsive inflection in his sentences.

Sorry, you may have already said all of this I just wanted to opine.

“The UN is right? you can’t be any more “un”; Than you are right now, the UN is undone, Another mushroom cloud, another smoking gun, The threat is real, the Locust King has come, Don’t tell me the truth; I don’t like what they’ve done, Just give me ammo for the United Abominations”-Megadeth

How about "sly" and nefarious?

penguin2 Saturday, June 20th at 9:50AM EDT (link)

Absolutely agree about his voice and speech inflection, it grates on our nerves too. Last night we were watching the O’Reilly Factor, Laura Ingram filling in, and about 10 minutes to end of show, Fox broke in with “Alert” to go to some social event Obama was about to speak.

We turned t.v. off and grumbled about the fawning coverage this guy gets.

P.S. If he grates on our nerves, what’s wrong with so many other people? Do they have different ears?

Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.

The man on the street didn’t know that the Dems controlled Congress going into the 2008 elections.

If you were to poll the man on the street, I bet 75% would not know… who’s the Sec Treasury, Sec State, Sec Def, Obama’s 1st SCOTUS appointment, and the list goes on.

I don’t believe this is schizophrenia… I believe a majority of Americans are politically ignorant and apathetic. What does filter in their little world comes from mostly left wing sources: tv (both news and ‘entertainment’), their kids indoctrination from school, and their politically correct work environment.

The message has been consistent: conservatives are intolerant, hate mongering, empty headed, less than human, demons. George W. Bush is to blame for everything. They have demonized all other sources of information including the web, radio, church, and your parents.

It will take about 6 to 12 months for the news to reach the masses that the Dems control the House, the Senate & the White House. They know B.H.O. is president. That news has been coming non-stop since October of 2008?!

It is our jobs to inform them of what’s going. This is not easy. I know in my world I have to speak in “code” just to see if the person in the cell, I mean cubicle, next to me has any political leanings.

Our office overlooks Cincinnati’s Fountain Square, a public gathering place. On April 15th, the Tea Party was in full swing just a few stories down from us. The comments from the top leadership of my organization ran along these lines… “Don’t those people have jobs?… What are they doing down there?… What a bunch of right wing loonies… Why aren’t those kids in school?…”

1) Yes, they do have jobs.
2) They are protesting the largest government grab for power in U.S. history.
3) They are Americans.
4) This is an historic occasion, the parents would like to have their kids be a part of. I noticed you weren’t complaining about the kids on baseball’s opening day just 2 weeks earlier… including your own.

I took pictures with my cell phone and attempted to make a few positive comments.

That’s we face.

Not sure schizophrenia fits...

JDidSaint Friday, June 19th at 11:17AM EDT (link)

…but I like your thinking. If I had to classify the left, I would argue for borderline personality disorder.

- Avoid real or imagined abandonment (Is “The One” a father figure?)
- Unstable and intense interpersonal relationships
- Impulsivity in potentially self-damaging ways (Deficit spending, not paying taxes, etc.)
- Chronic feelings of emptiness (Filled by volunteering, politics, etc.)
- Inappropriate anger or difficulty controlling anger
- Paranoid stress-related ideation (Means a dissociation from their original self - have a flexible self-identity)
- Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood

Give It a Year

IJB Friday, June 19th at 11:51AM EDT (link)

Right now it’s ‘cognitive dissonance’ explaining these paradoxical opinions of the electorate.

But Gamecock’s right about one thing - in about a year’s time, no one will even have even a choice but to blame their problems on Obama.

It may even happen sooner that that. We’ll just have to see…

Interesting

1stRichard Friday, June 19th at 11:54AM EDT (link)

“An insane person in a sane society will seem insane but a sane person in an insane society will seem insane”, such is the majority and therein question society its self.

“Liberalism is a Mental Disorder,” is one part and prescribes the hard core “Moonbats” but liberalism is a social spectrum. It can be divided and conquered. Influences include “Mob Mentality” mostly found in colleges that is easily exploited by their tutors. The belonging to the “In Crowd” is a strong influence in that mobs are where cowards hide and this needs to be exposed.

There is also much confusion about the term “Liberal” in that there is an old and new. Progressively over the years they have grown in to opposites, on one side there is the Socialist or Progressive Liberal and the Classic Liberals on the other side. Classic Liberals in the United States actually once believe in limited government, liberty over equality, natural law, individualism, free markets and constitutional constraint of government, the same as a conservative. Then, somewhere around the “New Deal”, FDR’s “New Deal” there became a defined split in liberals with classic liberals on the right and socialist liberals on the left. This rift between the two has grown so vast over the years that a Classic Liberal is the opposite of a Socialist Liberal. There is laissez-faire constitutionalism for the Classic Liberal and collectivist welfarism for the Socialist Liberal. There has been a sort of high-jacking going on, the far left liberals still argue that they stand for one thing but do another. We can divide those from insanity to the sane by exposing the hypocrisy.

From my experience, I live in the “happy valley” of western mass you can’t confront most “moonbat” liberals with the cold hard truth. They go in to this childish regression of blame (blame Bush) and get close minded in some sort of “ego defense mechanism”. Typically after a conflict liberals seek the comfort of their support group. This makes reasoning with most “moonbat” liberals almost imposable. I also advise against any “shock therapy” like yelling at them or such. As I have found they are likely to wet them selves and reinforce their childish regression. I would have to agree that it is some sort of disease like Schizophrenia but the disease is most often the cure. Like the disease of alcoholism (much like “Kool-Aid”) there is some low point of recognizing something is wrong and things have to change. Unfortunately the rest of us are along for the ride if this disease is not stopped.

It's the media

avgamerican Saturday, June 20th at 2:06AM EDT (link)

Eventhough it was clearly pointed out that the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiascos caused the the subprime crisis, Fox News may have been the only network that exposed the dems behind it. The voters were never allowed to hear the truth or ignored the facts. I believe the media has ballooned BHO’s image as an ideological savior. So far everything BHO has done was predicted accurately during the campaign and approval polls are sinking in direct correlation. It seems that no matter what people are told, they fall for image over substance. Human nature always leads to destruction. I only hope that this image thing begins to turn quickly enough in time to stop this evil agenda.

That's why Fox has to be marginalized.

TNJim Saturday, June 20th at 2:30AM EDT (link)

They are the only ones doing it now especially. Obama almost all week has been complaining about Fox slamming him. Call it that if he must, all they’re doing is pointing out what his economy busting policies are likely to do, or have done. That’s what all the networks and print media should be doing, but they’re too busy worshiping an idol.

Which reminds me of a thought I had when ABC announced their big health care show. I bet MSDNC (no typo) had to be a bit miffed when they or their parent network didn’t get the big event. All of Chris Matthew’s leg tingles and Brian Williams’ bows didn’t pay off very well, did they? Of course, all that could have creeped Obama out some, I guess.
