Roy Blunt’s ad campaign begins

MO Congressman Roy Blunt is running for the MO Senate seat currently occupied by Christopher “Kit” Bond, who will be retiring at the end of his current term. I’ve been fairly regular in criticisms of Blunt’s Dem opponent, Robin Carnahan, a typical leftist Obama acolyte. But today we’ll just stick (mostly) to a simple post of the spot that is kicking off Rep. Blunt’s advertising campaign.

Blunt remains ahead of Carnahan in the polls. The most recent Rasmussen survey shows Blunt up 48%-43%, a wider lead than was seen in the prior poll.

The MO Senate race appears to be shaping up as one of the closest in the country, and it shouldn’t be.  Blunt is running against a member of a MO left-wing dynasty and she should be no different than her brother, Congressman Russ “Rubberstamp” Carnahan, who never met an Obama policy he didn’t like.  Blunt is a reliable conservative and will stand up for the values that readers of Redstate hold dear.

    Carnahan is better known.

People have fonder memories of the Carnahans of the past than they do of the Blunts. Matt (Roy’s son) did not leave as a very popular executive (personally I didn’t think he did a bad job, but I’m in the minority). That’s part of the reason why it’s as close as it is. Once people start tuning in, Blunt will be able to paint Carnahan as she actually is, a left-wing Obamatron. Missouri is a center-right state and I think Blunt can pull off a win here. Personally, I’m more worried about Ohio than I am here, but it is a race to keep an eye on.

Chuck Purgason is the real conservative. Purgason got some attention last week when Joe the Plumber endorsed him and Politico wrote an article.

Blunt would be better than Carnahan, but Purgason would be the best choice.

Well, that seals up my vote for Blunt.

…can you please lose the green screen and put the guy outside? Nothing says removed from reality, literally and figuratively, like a sound stage.

I wonder how many campaign ads that fence is going to end up in?

Your ending comment about Roy Blunt being a reliable conservative is off the mark. Blunt is one of the big ear mark spenders in Congress. This is why he is not getting any traction right now against Carnahan.

Roy’s part of the problem in DC. Talk conservative but act like a RINO or even worse a Liberal. The poll numbers will go up if he beats Chuck Purgason. I am supporting Chuck because he is the best conservative and would represent Missouri effectively.

After many years of Kit Bond spending like a drunken sailor in a nude bar, Roy will be more of the same.

There is a very real reason why Roy won his district for so many years by wide margins, because he is a conservative.

He may not be perfect, and I might disagree with an issue from time to time, but he is not just reliably conservative – he is as steady as a rock.

I would challenge you to check his voting record – and I dont mean try culling a vote or two – I mean the whole thing.

Whether you are talking about his dedication to right to life issues, or voting for budget limits, its all there in black and white.

Roy has stood there. I know, he is my Congressman and has won here by wide margins for something you do not give him credit for, listening to his constituency while representing OUR values in Washington.

For those who dont know, the 7th is the most conservative part of the state. We are not the richest, but we enjoy our independence and desire for limited government.

I guess that escapes some of the critics, right? Roy may not be flashy or bend the headlines, but he is definitely conservative and deserves our vote.

I would add that redcomet is more than likely correct for the poll number – but there are also a number of other issues at play, including millions of dollars from third parties like vote vets (or even Clair McCaskill running ads angled at attacking Roy via back door) being poured into the state without much of a televised response.

As to the advertisement its self, I like its message, but would prefer for the stand up part to be filmed at his home (which is a farm) so it is genuine.

Because it sure ain’t this one.

But I think he went for a hill too far in a year where there are hundreds of good races draining money from activists like me.

He’s a state senator, which is a good launchpad for the House, but it’s pretty small for the Senate, especially when he’s running against candidates with statewide name recognition.

  • itsjoanne

Blunt is not a conservative according to this:

    Couldn’t have said it better.

Did you go to barackobama.com for info on John McCain in 2008?

    :eye roll:

Let’s think electability and name reco for a moment, shall we? First, while Blunt does not possess a 100% ACU rating, it is pretty darned high. Second, he is renowned for raising large sums of cash for campaigns – a critical trait. Third, lest you bring up candidates like Rubio and Haley, who Redstate have helped raise attention for … I’m sure Purgason is a decent guy, but he simply isn’t anywhere close to that category. Fourth, virtually no one outside rural SW MO knows who the heck Purgason is…and his corn-pone radio ads are not going to help matters much.

Despite Paul Seale’s pathetic hatred for Apple products (sorry, inside joke), he is right about Rep. Blunt. I strongly suggest you read his comment above.
