Preventing a Texas Two-Step

Texas could undergo quite a dynamic change in leadership without her citizens being able to cast a single vote.

If two particular candidates win their races, then political promotions will begin inside the pink granite dome at a fervent pace: Perry becomes President and current Lt Gov. Dewhurst becomes U.S. Senator.

Let the shuffling begin:

Step 1. RINO David Dewhurst gets the win for the US Senate and resigns as Lt Gov. Then per Sec 16 of the Texas Constitution the President Pro Tempore of Senate steps in to the Lt Gov seat and calls a session of the full Senate (Sec 9) who will then elect a new Lt Gov.

Step 2. Rick Perry gets the win for President. The new Lt Gov, (remember a former RINO Texas Senator), takes over as the new Governor of Texas and the Senate gives us another new Lt Gov!

The Texas Senate is not exactly as bastion full of defenders of conservative beliefs, but there are a couple. 19 Rs/12 Ds. Of the 19 Republicans, only 4 received 70% or higher from the Texas Eagle Forum. www.texaseagle.org

Activists are being tasked with asking one of two questions of candidates: 1. If they are a candidate for the Texas House, who will you vote for Speaker (sniffing out support for Rino Straus; y’all remember that 2011 showdown!); 2. If they are a candidate for the Texas Senate, who would you vote for President Pro Tempore and Lt. Gov?

We are far more aware of what is at stake than we were in 2010 and we have educated ourselves about the rules. I’m looking forward to proving to the Establishment the Tea Party is still here; we’ve just been a little busy getting educated. See ya at the next Meet and Greet.

“The new Lt Gov, (remember a former RINO Texas Senator), takes over as the new Governor of Texas”

    Exactly so, it could happen.

We have an excellent US Senate candidate in Ted Cruz.

David Dewhurst has an oppty to be Texas Governor. All Dewhurst has to do is stay put and NOT run for US Senate.

If he runs for US Senate, we will have a possible double-wammy of our top 2 slots open for the Texas Senate to vote on. This could get dicey as the 2/3rds rule may require Democrat agreement. This means we may end up with a ‘compromise’ leadership … at the same time we have a surplus of good conservative talent waiting in the wings (Patterson, Abbott, Staples, Dan Patrick, all are possible players for Gov or Lt Gov).

What happened in the 2001-2003 time period was that the Texas Senate put forth Bill Ratliff as Lt Gov, a moderate/RINO Republican. His son, a lobbyist, challenged a conservative on SBOE last year and won.

If Dewhurst leaves his post, and Perry wins the Presidency, the Texas Senate will be picking both slots

that Perry steps aside as Gov since not only is he running for the highest office in the country and will need to devote 120% of his time to that endeavor and since he should win it all unless he steps on his own feet and would no longer be available for that office? If he were to step aside now or very soon, Texas rule may give you both a Lt Gov and Gov that you did not vote for, but it would allow for a vote on those two offices come 2012. Most states have some form of appointment allowance should a rep step down from their elected office and while it may not be the best way, until voters change the rule via the ballot, got to deal with it when it happens. I would think voters would want to get that rule on the ballot anyways so that if and when the Gov is a dem and you lose a republican (…………………) the gov can not appoint a democrat person.

but still too small in numbers to ger’done. Kepp trying though Paulie with your meet and greets. Do you share bongs at your meet and greets?

I’m not even close to a Ron Paul supporter, but thanks for reading my post and commenting. Your assumption brought a smile to my face; if you only know how much Ron Paul’s positions go against what I believe.

Texas does have some interesting characters in our fair state.

I know BurbMom personally and she is no Ron Paul whacko nut!

BurbMom is a 2%er (No Compromise, Conservative, Tea Party Activist).

She is active in True the Vote, Raging Elephants, The Austin Tea Party, and Republican Grassroots Organizations.

She did get something wrong in this post though and that is that the incumbent Senators will be making these votes not the newly elected candidates.

So make your preference known to your incumbent Sates Senator who you want to be the next Governor.

“See ya at the next meet and greet.” Only the Paulies have “meet and greets.” It’s there internet way of collecting up there supporters in that area.

  • acat

other groups have their own forms – including actual non-Paulistine-infested Tea Party groups….

I don’t see where one phrase, in the absence of any, you know, lunacy is all that.

within the county I live than ever before. We are actually vetting candidates, etc. It’s refreshing to see how many people are paying attention and continuing to hold officials accountable. Our Travis Co GOP chairwoman has been instrumental in keeping us all engaged when the legislature was in session and now that the primaries are kicking in.

Lots of folks metion the Tea Party activists have become complacent, but I’m just not seeing it.

to one I read earlier today here by John “Doc” Holladay that I linked from the Texas Tea Party Newsletter link that was in the redstate diary, here.

I would have thought this might warrant some kind of cross-post or something – just find it a little odd.

Grassroots are really on top of keeping each other up to date on what we are up against here in Texas. We have developed an excellent network via eblasts/yahoo groups/blogs. I really think this election cycle is going to have a far more educated electorate.
