Why we need to stop talking about Ayers

It's the economy, stupid. Have we forgotten so quickly?

Let me preface this post by noting that yes, I do believe Obama’s ties to Ayers are important. And yes, I think the relationship demonstrates, at best, poor judgement on Obama’s part, and more likely is a giveaway of his far-left worldview and policies.

That said, talking about Ayers is not going to help McCain win the election. In fact, it is likely to backfire. Here are the reasons why:

  1. No one understands why Ayers isn’t in jail. And we’ve done a lousy job explaining it to people. The truth is that he got off on a technicality, but without that critical piece of information, most people assume he’s either done his time or was never all that guilty in the first place. It is too late to educate people about this; the issue is yesterday’s news and first impressions have already been made.
  2. It was 30 years ago. No, that doesn’t excuse his actions, but it reinforces my first point: Ayers has managed to stay on the right side of the law for all that time. No matter how despicable his actions in the 60s and 70s, the fact of the matter is that Ayers just isn’t setting bombs anymore. That makes our description of him as a domestic terrorist seem hyperbolic to undecided voters.
  3. Obama’s defense is airtight when he says he didn’t know about Ayers’s violent past when they worked together. Be honest: had you ever heard of Ayers before this election cycle? I sure hadn’t; I had barely even heard of Weatherman, and I’m plugged into political news feeds and blogs almost constantly. You can bet that the average Joe is going to give him a pass for not knowing what they themselves didn’t know.
  4. It ties McCain to Bush. Any mention of terrorism reminds people of the War on Terror, which is almost entirely Bush’s baby. Popular opinion is that the threat of terrorism has been greatly exaggerated. This makes McCain look like he’s delivering more of the same at a time when he should be running as far away from Bush as he can.
  5. Most importantly, Ayers has nothing to do with the economy, which is the single most important issue to voters right now. Talking about Ayers makes it look like we’re trying to change the subject, when — and I cannot stress this enough — Americans do not want the subject changed. They’re worried about their jobs, their homes, and their nest eggs. They are not concerned about William Ayers.

The only positive argument for talking about Ayers is that his relationship with Obama is instructive in deciphering Obama’s worldview. Ayers may not still be a bomb-thrower, but he’s still a radical with Marxist ideals; that Obama worked so closely with such a man suggests that he is also not moderate in his own views. But this argument is tedious, convoluted, and difficult to sell to undecided voters. In short, the negatives of talking about Ayers outweigh the positives.

Every moment we spend talking about Ayers is a moment taken away from pinning the current economic crisis on Obama and the Democrats. Every mention of Ayers at a campaign rally is an excuse for the media to make McCain look like he’s ignoring the fact that the Dow is falling drastically every day. Every comment about Ayers makes it look like we’re not engaging Americans on the number one issue facing them right now.

In reality, McCain has a bulletproof argument on the current financial crisis, revolving around three points:

  1. Obama says McCain has always supported financial deregulation, but that’s a lie. In 2006, McCain sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act, which would have prevented the failures at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two entities most responsible for the housing bust and subsequent financial crisis.
  2. Democrats blocked the very legislation that McCain sponsored on a party-line vote, and argued that there was nothing wrong with Fannie and Freddie. Now the American taxpayer is footing the bill, to the tune of $700 billion.
  3. Obama himself said that subprime mortgage lending — which is what caused the housing bust and financial crisis — was a good idea, and that it was fine with him, while taking more money in contributions from Fannie and Freddie in just three years than any other politician in history except Chris Dodd.

McCain has been hitting this message. I was pleased to see him make these points during the last debate. He’s said it at town hall meetings all week. But the media has ignored it because they know it hurts Obama. If we want to get this message out to the people, we need to make it our only message right now. We need to be talking about this 24/7, and not giving the media an excuse to focus on anything else.

I hadn’t been keeping up with the Ayers story. Obama has so many evil and corrupt associations, I lost track.

In addition, I figure if people don’t care that Obama personally supported infanticide (and lied about it), they sure as heck aren’t going to care about this Ayers or any other association.

The point must be there, ok in the background but in quantity

Ayers and Obama add Phleger and Obama, Odinga and Obama, Wright and Obama, Dorhn and Obama, Khalidi and Obama, Rezko and Obama, Farrakhan and Obama, Marzook and Obama, Said, al-Mansour and many more.

Deregulation, why do we need deregulation, we all know controls and regulations that started this mess. Is there any sense in more controls and regulations to fix past controls and regulations? Obama is NOT change, he is more of what got us in to this mess. We need to deregulate, get out of the business running corporations as quickly as possible, hold those responsible, prosecute those responsible and make it illegal to do it again.

      Obama?s plan is wrong

Yes, staring in 1992 Obama led Illinois Project Vote (ACORN) and is continually involved, a registration drive that put millions of low income welfare voters on the rolls dead or alive, serving nominee Bill Clinton. Clinton promoted socialist rewards to the poor and Obama saw political service as a natural extension of his Socialist advocacy work. Here we are again, same tactics same rewards, more of the same Obama. We need change and Obama is not it.

      Cut and Run

We have a real bad history being involved with these ?limited conflicts?, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and other that we never seem to finish. Would we have 9|11 if we finished what we started in 1978 in Afghanistan? Did we ?Cut and Run? in Iraq during the first war? What about our involvement in Iraq back in 1980s, did we ?Cut and Run? then? Did we ?Cut and Run? in Vietnam and what are the possible costs of conflict now that they possibly have nukes over there? Only McCain has the experience we need and sadly Obama has a good chance of repeating past mistakes and cost thousands of lives, not a time for on the job training.

The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that more than twenty thousand Vietnam veterans died after they returned home. These Vietnam veterans were not murdered not in some distant land fighting for a just cause nor did they die fighting the wrong war at the wrong time. They were murdered right here, some probably in your own neighborhood, the only place they had a home. They were murdered by the internal strife and conflict you are seeing of now. Therein those that wanted to stop the murders became murders of thousands and the policies that wanted murdered millions more. Obama will never understand and is part of this, but McCain knows, McCain has the experience.

      Tie Obama to Clinton

      Obama = Clinton

In 1993, the first World Trade Center bombing killed six people. Terrorists exploded bombs outside the United States embassies in the capitals of two East African countries. Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, about 250 people, including Americans, were killed, and more than 5,500 were injured. All were the work of al-Qaida and bin Laden, who in 1998 declared holy war on America. The Clinton administration linked the bombings to Osama bin Laden. Clinton administration had its chance to stop Osama bin Laden and flailed, thus Clinton?s culpability of 9|11.

Somalia, the Clinton administrations failure to take stronger measures, 500,000 to 1 million Rwandans were massacred, including the18 soldiers were murdered that Clinton personally failed to support. Thousands more died of disease and starvation in refugee camps in neighboring countries.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Clinton administrations delays lead to over 2.5 million victims of ethnic cleansing, hundreds of thousands of mostly civilian casualties and massive property damage.

In Haiti, Clinton administration failed to prevent a military overthrow. Amid hundreds of thousands victims of the military overthrow he sent a delegation led by former President Jimmy Carter.

Clinton also worked in the Middle East to negotiate peace agreements between the nation of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. This is another Clinton administration failure that murdered thousands of victims.

Clinton failed to take stronger action in Iraq, over 1.5 million victims and is culpable for the mess we have now.

Under the Clinton administration, we suffered the worst years of domestic terrorism.

Thousands die in domestic terrorism here in the US prompted by Clinton administration policy

Throughout the 1990s the United States did not pay its dues to the United Nations (UN) and thus insured international segregation of the US.

Clinton had vowed to focus “like a laser” on the economy and to present a health care reform but what we got was more tax increases, less in “Investing in America” , signed the deregulation of the banks to encourage risky loans to the poor and made health care a red tape nightmare, thus responsible for the hole we are in now.

He signed orders overturning restrictions on abortion.

North Korea refused to allow international inspectors to look at two nuclear waste sites. The inspectors wanted to see if North Korea was reprocessing spent fuel into plutonium, which could be used to manufacture nuclear weapons in violation of the treaty. Clinton only offered warnings when North Korea refused to allow the inspections and raised the prospect of war with North Korea.

Clinton?s first trade effort was NAFTA stripping out the tariffs we needed to protector selves, he orchestrated an agreement in Indonesia with Pacific Rim nations to gradually remove trade barriers and US tariffs. Clinton?s administration also participated in (WTO), replaced GATT. The WTO had stronger authority to enforce trade agreements, and it covered a wider range of trade. Clinton signed a landmark trade agreement with China, the United States would support China?s membership in the WTO despite human rights violations to copyright violations. The Clinton?s administration again increased taxes to compensate for loss tariffs.

Moreover, let us get in to the first president to testify before a grand jury in his own defense, the Whitewater Development Corporation, the Lewinsky affair, Paula Corbin?s civil rights and others.

It is historical fact, we must never allow another Clinton and party in office.

Why concentrate on just one nutball?…BHO has a laundry list of disgusting human beings that he calls friends and associates (and sprirtual advisors). But also connect Obama to F/F. Show how the seeds of economic doom were planted by the dems. McCain should hit Obama with a combo meal of his past associations, a nothing resume, and connections with people who are responsible for the economic downturn. Do all these effectively and McCain will win.

  • OccamsRazor

This close to the election…Barak could get away with the same laundery killing list as Clinton and get away with it, let us not allow that happen and instead focus. Ayers, Rezko, in reverse order.
