Is Obama American Enough?

Are We Satisfied With A "Quasi-American?"

The New York Daily News reports that Hillary’s chief strategist urged her to undermine Obama as a “quasi-American whose ‘lack of American roots’ are outside the political mainstream:”

According to an inside-the-bunker article being published in The Atlantic on Monday, key adviser Mark Penn ridiculed Obama’s “boyhood in Indonesia and his life in Hawaii,” arguing Obama’s multicultural diversity could be exploited.

[. . .]

Penn added, “I cannot imagine America electing a President during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and in his values.”

At Politico, Mike Allen writes “Mark Penn, the top campaign strategist for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign, advised her to portray Barack Obama as having a ‘limited’ connection ‘to basic American values and culture,’ according to a forthcoming article in The Atlantic.”

I don’t think that line of attack would have made a difference for Hillary. The Democrats presumptuous nominee was able to steal the nomination from Hillary because of a Clinton fatigue. The radical left-wing extremists that controlled the Democrats’ nominating process simply didn’t care about Obama’s ties to the anti-American Wright, Obama’s affiliation with American terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dorn, nor the Obama’s shady dealings with the criminal Tony Rezko.

Do you think mainstram voters will care that Obama holds both American and Kenyan (since 1963) citizenship, or that some say Obama may also be a citizen of Indonesia?

the MSM buried the stories of the Obamessiah’s associations with Ayers, Wright, Rezko and the others until after Iowa. If they had been half as diligent as a high school paper’s editor looking into a star athlete’s arrest, it’s doubtful the Obamessiah would have the allure that he did. And Hillary et al would have beaten up on him mercilessly for those associations. It’s hard to believe that her campaign would let those things lie, but I think she was waiting for the MSM to bring them up, so she couldn’t be accused of being a “racist”.

Fight on about Rezko, Ayers, Wright, etc. if you would like. I choose not to simply because I’ve found Obama’s positions alone, prior to securing the nomination of course, are enough to get most Americans see that they are out of touch.

However, to call Obama un-American and to go after his citizenships in other countries IMO feeds into the negative stereotypes that we have to deal with consistently. Even though you may be right, I think this is the wrong angle.

    Just my two cents.

are not. They still rely on the traditional media for their “facts”, and you know what they are getting.

The more information that is out there about Obama, the better. And his past associations matter a huge amount in trying to determine their influence on his thinking NOW. His associates present a pattern of America-hating, socialist, tax ‘em til they scream people who have helped make this man who he is. You don’t think that’s important enough to be known?
