Reid Puts Party Politics First

McCain Once Again Puts Country First

Upon learning that Senator McCain called Harry Reid’s bluff and once again put the country’s interest before McCain’s personal interests, Reid reversed himself and now asserts McCain’s return “would not be helpful:”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in a statement that would be unlikely to go out without the Obama campaign’s approval, dismisses McCain’s suspension:

[. . .]

But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy. If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership; not a campaign photo op.

Yesterday, Reid was insisted on McCain’s support as the political price to be paid for Democrat’s to back the proposed bailout of the financial sector:

Fearing a political backlash against Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has told the White House that it must serve up support from Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) if it hopes to ensure bipartisan backing for a massive economic bailout package by week’s end.

According to Roll Call, Reid made his political price clear to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Monday night, as well as to his Democratic caucus. Reid also wants assurances from Senate Republican leaders that an evenly divided, bipartisan group of Senators will pass any legislative fix so the Democrats aren’t left facing the politics of the unpopular bailout alone.

Reid was much happier yesterday, when he thought he had his political cover:

“I got some good news in the last hour or so … it appears that Sen. McCain is going to come out for this,” Reid announced.

But now that McCain has made it clear he is again putting “Country First,” even as the Dems continue to put party first, the Democrats’ Senate leader sees McCain’s decision to focus on the financial crisis, at the expense of McCain’s presidential campaign as not helpful.

Good work over at Politico for noticing and documenting Reid’s hypocracy …

“Reid’s statement from July, when Obama showed up for a vote but not McCain (quoted in The Washington Post):

‘I should mention how glad my fellow Democrats and I were to have our nominee for president here to vote on these important bills. Senator Obama has come to work and taken tough stands. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Senator McCain,’ Reid said. ‘Perhaps taking tough stands on important issues is not part of Senator McCain’s campaign strategy. Perhaps he’s just too busy on the campaign trail to do his day job.’emphasis mine

Another example that nothing matters to these guys except winning (well except maybe the money that they can skim when they have power).

vetoes the earmarks and names names of those who want them.

I hope he rallies the party and gives the Dems hell. They truly deserve it.

in Arizona as he was elected, and I want Obama standing on the debate stage by hisbadself while McCain is working. Let see how that plays in Peoria.

With McCain’s help this week the passage of such an important financial crisis bill far out weighs the debate and will focus the differences between the two candidates for all to see. The debates can be pushed out a bit and none of us will care as long as we have a way to get out of the financial mess we are in.

McCain again shows real leadership and “Country First” attitude, while Obama shows ‘me only’ selfishness – where is his supposed “reach across the aisle” abilities/desire? (Just another Obama falsehood, yet again exposed)

Obama and McCain are NOT the President yet, they are Senators and should be doing their jobs! McCain needs to be stating such (must be outright comment, rather than implied, for the Morons called Independents in the middle) – must do SENATE job now during crisis!

Not much of a country to govern next year if they argue and allow a complete Financial collapse (though I believe those claiming such is occurring to be well over-stated).

I was surprised to see the CNN “Situation Room” even giving McCain ANY positive credit for the latest “McCain to suspend campaign and work to shape Bailout plan”… Though, of course, McCaffery had to throw any poo-poo he could from the Dem’s (yet to be determined SPIN on such) that it might just be a ploy to delay this debate in order to bump the VP debate… What a Joke… The VP Debate should NOT allow to be moved regardless of if this first Presidential Debate comes off on Friday or not…

The Debate Friday, I hope, will go on… as McCain needs to go on to describe how the “Security Issues” (the Debate is to cover) encompasses
    1. Economic collapse (the Dollar)
    2. Drilling NOW
    3. Immigration
    etc….
Hopefully Obama thinks this is only a Foreign Affairs (for him, his anti-Iraq rantings) Debate and gets Schooled…

      Beg your pardon…

Do not respond to this DUPLICATE…

Not sure how, but it was double posted and I have reported such to the site…

      My apologies…

McCain needs to be part of this process and start by telling us the names of who is looking to put countless add-ons to this process, as we all know Dems will be doing…

The one thing I would like to see added, to calm peoples fears, would be to add language that would DOUBLE the amount of coverage the FDIC currently provides. This would help ease fears and potential runs on the Banks…

Safeguards as to how, when, money is pulled back to the Govt. under the Bailout; when these assets would be sold; so that it goes to pay down Debt, not allow Dem’s to expand new spending…
