Obama to lift Clinton-era ban on destruction of human embryos

President Obama will sign an executive order on Monday that will lift the Clinton-era prohibition on federal funding of stem cell research which causes the destruction of human embryos — fertilized eggs in the early stages of development.

Obama even plans a ceremony to sign the order that will allow the use of taxpayer dollars to fund research that destroys human embryos:

Administration officials would not comment immediately other than to say “there will be a stem cell-related event on Monday.” But an e-mail sent out today from the White House stated that officials were planning a ceremony on Monday “on stem cells and restoring scientific integrity to the government process. At the event the president will sign an executive order related to stem cells.” Sources close to the issue, asking not to be named because they were not authorized to discuss the plan, said the order would lift the restrictions on federal funding of human embryonic stem cells.

The federal ban on funding stem cell research which results in the destruction of human embryos began under President Clinton when he signed the Dickey Amendment in 1995.

When President Bush took office there was no federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research. In August 9, 2001, Bush established a new policy on stem cell research. His policy was the first to make federal funds available human embryonic stem cell research. President Bush’s policy allowed federal funding of research using existing stem cell lines only, “where the decision on life and death has already been made”:

Bush said research using embryonic stem cells involved “great promise, and great peril.”

“We must proceed with great care,” Bush said.

The president said scientists have told him that research on the 60 existing stem cell lines “has great promise that could lead to breakthrough therapies and cures. This allows us to explore the promise and potential of stem cell research without crossing a fundamental moral line by providing taxpayer funding that would sanction or encourage further destruction of human embryos that have at least the potential for life.”

Bush also endorsed increased funding for research on stem cells obtained from adults, umbilical cords, placentas and animals.

Contrary to what you hear from those who conducted a despicable and relentless campaign to demonize and discredit President Bush, there is no ban on human embryonic stem cell research. The human embryonic stem cell lines authorized under Bush’s policy are used in federally funded research every day.

The issue here is only federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. Just as the federal government doesn’t fund abortions, it shouldn’t fund embryonic stem cell research which results in the destruction of human embryos. Simply because more of those polled say they want it than say they don’t, doesn’t make it right for the federal government to pay for research which requires the destruction of human embryos. There is nothing which restricts privately funded embryonic stem cell research.

It is no surprise that Obama would permit federal funding for research which will require the destruction of human embryos. After all, Obama is the most radically pro-abortion president in history. His record — voting for the Born Alive Infants Protection Act not once, not twice, but three times — can only be called infanticide.

Watch the following video in which a survivor of a failed abortion begs Obama to “change” and support born alive infant protections:

But it will be highly popular, I’m afraid. Policies which are not vigorously defended, however wise or noble they may be, are politically unsustainable. President Bush refused to ever face that fact.

and then we begin Nazi style medical research. That and it is plain that his solution for both Social Security and National Health Care is to deny the elderly the heath care they receive under our present system. Such a lovely little country we’ve become.

  • rick554

I cant wait to see all the smiles and celebrating by these butchers. and to think we are paying for this, for now. I imagine it will be on all the “News” nets and probably CSPAN. This is disgusting

When is Teleprompter Jesus going to legalize partial- birth abortions?? The world wants to know……..

And am ready to stop working, or move out of this country. By using my tax money, he is making me complicit in the death of the unborn.

    • mom2oneson

      so they don’t pay taxes?
I mean they do it purosely?
My professors wife had used a midwife from that group and he said how low her fees were because they did not want to pay taxes to fund wars.

        …”Obama Cabinet Nominees”.

        • itrytobenice

Cabinet nominees are wealthy, high income tax dodgers.

Of course, what would you expect from the most ethical, transparent, hopey changey bunch ever?

  • Old_Crow

Medicaid covers abortions and Medicaid is federally funded by tax dollars.

Embryonic stem cells = tumors. Nothing to see hear but taxpayer money be flushed down another toilet. Science, we don’t need no stinking science when we have hope-change and fairy dust.

    • Menlo

Medicaid does not directly cover abortions (with exceptions for life endangerment and rape) and has not since 1976 when the Hyde Amendment was enacted. A few states do cover abortions. There is indirect funding since Medicaid does give money to Planned Parenthood and other “family planning” centers for the other services they do; that money is fungible.

For the first time since 1976, there will be a big new push by the pro-abortion crowd to repeal the Hyde Amendment.

      • Old_Crow

        Just like you stated.
        It’s a fact.
        Don’t parse the truth.

        • mom2oneson

Ok the Hyde thing is just for federal money, what federal money can pay for, not state. Hyde forces states to have some abortions funded under medicaid.

So some states also cover abortion for reasons that they don’t get fed funds for from the federal government.

          • mom2oneson

but it goes into more detail:

            http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/facts/public_funding.html

Sorry about that last sentence, only the fed gov gives fed funds! :D

          • Old_Crow

regarding Medicaid funded abortions since police reports are not required. Just sign a form.

Additionally, most states allow state tax dollars to fund abortions. Add it all up, and there’s plenty of federal and state tax dollars going to the abortion industry either directly or indirectly.

What happened to my choice not to fund this hideous practice?

        • Menlo

Leaving it at “it pays” or “it doesn’t” is not adequate to give the whole truth. Abortions from life endangerment (which anyone would support allowing) and rape are so extremely rare, let alone cases by Medicare recipients. Those cases are also much more widely seen as justified, so it’s important to make the distinction when communicating with others.

      • mom2oneson

Hyde is just for fed $

This is what we get when we elect a very TECH-SAVVY President.

Wow! America will do anything for the sake of the “Advancement of Knowledge”.

I am not a very religious person but it’s now reminding me of Prophet Daniel’s prophecy about the last days.

To the Catholic Christians fooled by Obama…. this one is a solid proof of Obama/Pelosi/Biden lies to you during the last election.

    • Joe_Cor

Just too many Catholics just didn’t care. Too many Catholics care about socialism far more than a culture of life. From what I can see, that includes quite a few bishops and priests.

      • mom2oneson

Since I’ve known them the Catholic pro-life group has always volunteered to help the gop candidate.

        • Rod_Patrick

There were really Catholic groups working with the Democrats in the last election. They really supported and voted for Obama. They even vocally promoted the idea that “Obama is truly a pro-life candidate”.

Of course, there were other rational Catholics who remained “socially conservative” and stayed with the GOP side.

…they will lie down in front of a train to save baby seals, but they will go the Supreme Court to enable the destruction of baby humans…

…and to co-erce taxpayers to fund this destruction.

Scr*w questioning their patriotism, Liberals can’t even be loyal to their own SPECIES.

    • itrytobenice

      vs. Stupid Party.

Thankfully, we are both proud members of the stupid party.

  • Menlo

Colorado Democrat Diana DeGette is not satisfied. She’s working to enact legislation that would allow mad “scientists” (a.k.a. campaign contributors) to create humans for the sole purpose of killing them.

Any so-called “scientist” who would even WANT to do these kinds of experiments needs to be taken by the men in white coats and forced into a mental institution. So does anyone who would seek to create or destroy any human life in a lab and consider it “science” or “medicine.”

The most surprising thing to me about Obama’s move was how long it took. I expected this his first day or two.

  • JHancock

Was just a figurehead, a self-righteous dupe. Now with FOCA and stem cell research, we see his true colors. They aren?t red, white, and blue, nor are they black-they are the red white and black of the nazi era. Once again, liberalism and humanism raise their ugly head in the form of a beloved politician “fuehrer” Obama. He will usher in an era of glory for the many-health and prosperity-only at the expense of the dignity and humanity of those “who don’t matter”-first the unborn, then the old and infirm, then the disabled, then the “less intelligent”, then the religious dissenters, finally any and all who speak against the wisdom of the masses—Liberalism causes death, destruction, and totalitarianism. It starts with the death of the young and ends with the death of dissenters and their free speech.
