New York State Senate Democrats caught on tape refusing to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag:
The Senators can play all the political games their constituents will let them get away with, but they should not disrespect the Flag of the United States of America.
They should know better.
United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10 - Patriotic Customs, provides:
§172. Pledge of allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, ‘I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’, should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.
Perhaps the New York Democrats learned flag etiquette from Presidential candidate Obama.

What's today's odds on The Pledge being legislated out of existence, or maybe have a bit of "change" take place in the wording ?
Kenny Solomon Wednesday, July 1st at 7:31AM EDT (link)You know something will be proposed by at least one “American” soon enough………
“I pledge allegiance to The Light that is Barack Hussein Obama. And to the Quran behind which he stands, one world, under Shari’a, with taxes and servitude for all.”
Over my dead body.
Of course you can have my guns……. Bullets first.
I didn’t say rounds, shells or magazines……
I said bullets first.
When did the Pledge of Allegiance...
psht Wednesday, July 1st at 9:11AM EDT (link)become a PARTISAN issue????
On the day that certain Dems decided not to
janis Wednesday, July 1st at 9:18AM EDT (link)honor it. Trust me, we’d definitely be all over any R’s who pulled this kind of thing.
Ask the NY Democrats who pulled down one guy who tried to stand.
Moe Lane Wednesday, July 1st at 9:19AM EDT (link)You know, I’m inclined to treat this whole thing as performance art - except that it’s interesting - but that little bit bugs me.

What are New Yorkers saying?
smitch61 Wednesday, July 1st at 9:41AM EDT (link)Are they upset at any of this?
This New Yorker is disgusted....
janiel_ Wednesday, July 1st at 11:15AM EDT (link)Consider the fact that as my oldest daughter rehearsed for her junior high school graduation, she was the ONLY one to stand up when they began to rehearse our National Anthem. When her teachers came over and told her she could sit down with the rest of her class (it was hot, no a/c), my fourteen-year-old replied, “No. This is MY National Anthem for MY country. I’ll stand, thank you.”
And she did. She was the only one who stood.
Thank heaven, she “gets it;”
So, yeah. I’m disgusted that people who were elected to office, have no respect for the country that gave them every opportunity they have. When did respect for a flag and a country that gave these people EVERYTHING become a partisan issue? Why is it so fashionable to hate where we come from? What good can possibly come of being self-hating? It doesn’t work socially, why would anyone thing this is an acceptable viewpoint on a grander scale, politically?
I checked the sites for ABC Local news, NBC, CBS, NY 1, the Daily News, and the NY Post, I searched only ” Pledge of Allegiance” to be general enough to find any mention of this. There was none. What a shock - NOT.
It makes me sick to see the erosion over the years of the American Spirit and ideals. In the past, I’ve stopped talking to people who, I found out, never bothered to vote in elections. I lost respect for them at that point, so I had nothing else to say to them. But I realized that’s where it begins. We become complacent, we stop caring, and then the people who end up in office, are representative of that. This is now just an extension, a continuance of that same erosion. Perhaps we can’t see it on a day to day basis, but if people measured the losses of our freedoms and rights as carefully as they measure the millimeters of that might or might NOT glaciers melting, we’d all be talking about this more than who Jack-o left his non-fortune to.
I’d like to say I am surprised…but im not. I have not felt “represented” in my own state for quite some time.
grammar
janiel_ Wednesday, July 1st at 11:19AM EDT (link)***as carefully as they measure the millimeters of glaciers that might or might NOT be melting,
Some button on my keyboard makes words transpose, and I have no idea which one or how I did that….
Good for your daughter!
marshmom Wednesday, July 1st at 12:42PM EDT (link)For 14, that’s quite amazing. Most 14 year old’s only care about texting or their Ipod. It’s really disgusting how this country and it’s brave men and women have done so much for the people here, yet they despise everything we stand for.
It’s time for a change.
I agree...
navychick1993 Wednesday, July 1st at 2:02PM EDT (link)I took my 11 year old nephew and a couple of his friends to a Dodgers game recently and it took all I had not to snatch the mess out of one of his friends. I told all the boys to stand, remove their hats and place said hats over their hearts while the natioanl anthem was being played. One of the boys said that he didn’t want to do that; well, I let him know that he was going to do it or find his behind sitting in the parking lot waiting for his mother to pick him up. He didn’t think it was a big deal, but I took the time to give all the boys a history lesson on the way home. I told his mother that she needed to teach her son to respect the Stars and Stripes and the history behind it. Sadly, I don’t think she understood what I was saying.
I really don’t understand why these people hate our country.
Ignorance comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.
Sorry...spelling

Well let's see
JHancock Wednesday, July 1st at 9:49AM EDT (link)what could liberals find offensive about the pledge…
1…to the United States of America NOT the peoples of the world–they don’t like Nationalism just globalism and multi-culturalism
2…and to the Republic for which it stands NOT Elite Liberal Oligarchy–they don’t like normal salt of the earth types voting…especially if they are Rednecks or Christians
3…Under God …they don’t believe in any deity except maby Mr. Obama
4..Liberty and justice for all…they want to apply different standards of justice to diffrent people and take away our Liberty to controll our own property, buy the car we like, discuss religion, protest etc.
The best part is
George Claghorn Wednesday, July 1st at 10:17AM EDT (link)That HuffPo railed against Boehner for standing in front of a flag hanging backwards: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/16/gop-house-leaders-disresp_n_102136.html
Some samples from the comments:
“Victory comes, though we know not when. We must be happy warriors until the end.
For those of you who struggle with what goes on, who see retreat and capitulation, and who feel like not just your political opponents, but those who hold dear all those things you hold as blasphemous — be cheerful. Be happy. Victory is already yours.
You must just have the courage to not get discouraged and have the will to fight on.” – Erick Erickson at RightOnline
I'm surprised this made the news
Raven Wednesday, July 1st at 11:17AM EDT (link)The media usually covers up this sort of thing for the Dems.
That said, not a smart move. Perhaps they were relying on the media covering it up? But with the average voter seeing it on the news, and it will be played over and over and over by Beck, O’Reilly and Hannity, this is going to hurt the NY Dems tremendously.
“Unlike cruel liberty that requires you to stand and take responsibility for your choices, kind tyranny requires only that you kneel and surrender your choices.”
