Dems schedule unpopular Obamacare vote for dead of night

Obamaism: Worse than socialism

The Senate version of the Democrats’ so-called health care reform is so unpopular,  Nevada’s Harry Reid finds it necessary to vote on it at 1:00 a.m.

David M. Herszenhorn reports the Democrats must conduct six votes to pass their Obamacare — one of the crown jewels of Obamaism:

  • 1 a.m. MONDAY – To end debate on “a manager’s package” that includes all the latest changes to the bill. 60 votes required.
  • 7 a.m. TUESDAY – To approve the manager’s package. Simple majority required.
  • Also TUESDAY – To end debate on Mr. Reid’s original health care proposal, as amended by the manager’s package. 60 votes required.
  • 1 p.m. WEDNESDAY – To approve Mr. Reid’s original proposal. Simple majority required.
  • Also WEDNESDAY – To end debate on the finalized health care legislation. 60 votes required.
  • 7 p.m. THURSDAY, Christmas Eve (or anytime after the prior vote if all senators agree) – To approve the final bill. Simple majority required.

Reid’s 400 pages of changes to the Obamacare legislation the Democrats are rushing through the Senate were revealed only this morning, so the vote the Democrats scheduled for the middle of the night will come less than 40 hours after the amendments were made available — well short of the 72 hours Democrats promised the bill would be available before any vote:

The Senator mentioned, I note, having in mind the managers’ amendment, which he has not seen and, frankly, this Senator has not seen either. I have some ideas what is in it, but I have not seen it myself. I think as a practical matter this will be available for 72 hours, as the Senator suggests. Why do I say that? I say that because it is my expectation that Senator Reid’s managers’ amendment will be filed very quickly, maybe in a day or two [emphasis added]. (Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), Congressional Record, S.13289, 12/16/09)

Nelson has signed on to the bill

Republicans have to do everything they can now to stop this

    Please stop this

    • audax

….When does the GOP demand that they READ THE BILL??????

  • VizBiz

Even the Libs are calling it that. It’s hard to believe that we have come to the point where we are relying on the hard left to kill this thing. It’s unbelievable.

God see the truth, but waits. It’s going to be an interesting week.

    • audax

….to READ the BILL, can that delay any vote until after Christmas?

  • technocrat

First there was the Louisiana Purchase.

Then there was the Nebraska Purchase.

Isn’t there another “moderate” Democrat who wants a cut? I think the other senators should be asking for much more for their states.

I want my state to be able to opt-out of the new taxes, insurance company regulations, and vending machine regulations.

Neither has any power at all, and just bow to the leaders of the Party with a “Yes Mas’er” every time they are so ordered.

    • audax

…read the bill, can that deley it until after Christmas break???

  • AceInTX

Al they need to do is hold this up for one day for this to be put off till after the Christmas break which will give the Tea Party folks and now the Lefties that are opposing it time to work on their senators at home!

    * 1 a.m. MONDAY ? To end debate on ?a manager?s package? that includes all the latest changes to the bill. 60 votes required.

Can’t an objection be made to any other amendments being allowed to a bill that no-one has ever seen? As I’ve seen this done in platform committees and at our conventions, and amendment usually has to refer to the section, paragraph and line into which it will be inserted…how is that possible if Reid hasn’t even let anyone look at the bill…The Repubs should object to any further amendments being considered until the main bill is brought forth and read. the objection should be raised…and a vote should be forced as to whether each amendment will proceed without the main bill being read. Seems to me we could hold this up at least half a day. Of course any and all unanimous consent requests should be objected to….Coburn has already done this once with Sanders’ amendment…and Franken upped the ante by objecting to Lieberman’s request for an extra minute to speak…Repubs should call their bluff….this isn’t the time to back off this!…I think what Franken did was a shot across the Republican Bow that the Dems would up the ante even further if Repubs follow a strategy to object to unanimous consent request…Let them do their worse I say…the less that get’s done the better at this point…

    * 7 a.m. TUESDAY ? To approve the manager?s package. Simple majority required.

I don’t see much to be done on this vote with the exception of continuing to object to unanimous consent requests. again…Republicans should be objecting to any further debate going further on this until the originall bill is brought forth and read because they haven’t even seen what they are debating or amending!

    * Also TUESDAY ? To end debate on Mr. Reid?s original health care proposal, as amended by the manager?s package. 60 votes required.

What proposal…no one has seen it….again…Republicans should be objecting to any further debate going further on this until the originall bill is brought forth and read because they haven’t even seen what they are debating or amending!

    * 1 p.m. WEDNESDAY ? To approve Mr. Reid?s original proposal. Simple majority required.

Object to a vote going forward by unanimous consent without the bill being read….

    * Also WEDNESDAY ? To end debate on the finalized health care legislation. 60 votes required.

Object to the AMENDED health care bill going forth without it being read…including all amended sections

    * 7 p.m. THURSDAY, Christmas Eve (or anytime after the prior vote if all senators agree) ? To approve the final bill. Simple majority required.

Object to a final vote on the completed bill without it first being read….and object to all unanimous consent requests…even requests for senators to have extra time.

Which is one of my questions.Don’t the majority and minority leaders have to agree to a time limit for debate under the rules…why are we agreeing to a time limit for Senators to discuss what’s going on here? McConnell should be dragging out negotiations with Reid concerning how much time each side will be allowed for debate. or am I missing something?

    • AceInTX

If Senators are forced to work through Christmas on this I think Reid is gogin to have a rebellion on his hands!

OHH..what about objecting to extending the debate into the Christmas break…or did we already surrender that ground to them?

    • audax

Now how many GOP Senators have B@LL$?????

  • GardenStatePatriot

I hate to say it, but things are going to get ugly. I think we’re going to start seeing civil disobedience now.

    • audax

….disobedience by having them read the bill!!!!

  • davidstone

do not believe this bill will pass. They say once it gets through the senate, it will not pass the house and the senate next year as public support continues to wane. It is not over yet.

    • Swamp_Yankee

      ..

      • audax

…so lets READ THE BILL on the floor of the Senate!

    • audax

…about the Christ child BUT THEY DO CARE IF WE READ THE BILL ON THE SENATE FLOOR!!!

  • jtkell100

It is beyond me why 59 Senators are allowing Ben Nelson get away with requiring all the other states pay Nebraska’s medical bills. What is happening in washington. Has all the Dems in the Senate gone crazy? Seems to me that at least 20 of them would have the sense to vote against this socialist bill. I fell like I am in dream land.

I have a feelin’ huntin’ season starts right about that time or shortly after too.
