FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

It is Romney/Ryan

Erick got it right.

Mitt Romney today announced Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan as his Vice Presidential running mate.

As promised the choice was first announced via Romney VP app:

Shortly thereafter the Romney campaign issued a press release for those who aren’t yet that electronically connected.

As Erick posted, a formal announcement will be made at approximately 8:45 a.m. this morning in Norfolk, Virginia at the USS Wisconsin, a decommissioned World War II-era battleship.

this is a great choice by mittt. guaranteed to energize conservatives across the board.

at Bain chose the guy who sleeps in his office.

Study Up Erik. @LarryKudlow worked with Reagan read his missive The Reagan in Romney http://bit.ly/O9F3wp

You tell Erick to study up, yet you can’t even spell his name right.

  • skip1982

I predict by tonight they will be saying he is a bible thumper who cheated his way through college etc.

In reality, he seems like a good pick. More experienced than Obama even now.

    • NRPax

That anyone who went to school with him from kindergarten on will get requests for interviews and we’ll know his college transcripts better than we know Obama’s.

      • liberty17

What if played a prank on some other kid? Maybe he gave him a hair cut! *gasp*
The fact is the media is going to use anything. They already have with Romney. We might as well get ready for it.

        • skip1982

They REALLY wanted to race bait about Rubio being a fake Hispanic or Jindal being a fake Indian.

      • happyhistorian

He is not an “Ivy League Policy Wonk”. Graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a degress in Economics! He requires his staff and interns to read “Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand”. Little Libertarian Conservative streak there if you ask me. Great Pick.

I’m shocked. I didn’t expect Romney to be this bold. It says a lot about him. Now, all we Republicans are in the same boat together, under fire from the Left as our ship heads toward the beach. Let’s storm their stronghold and take back the country. D-Day is now. Victory is in November. Thanks, Mitt and Paul. Godspeed.

    • http://www4.webng.com/rickbull/lostlucky/ rickbull

that Romney made a better choice in picking Ryan than WE did in picking Romney . . .

  • Bob_Frazier

Why do we always put the best person in the VP slot? From Jack Kemp to Paul Ryan, they always throw conservatives the bone of the VP slot.

I was sure Jack Kemp would make a difference. He did not. Same for Sarah Palin. Didn’t work. I’m convinced now that the VP pick has no impact on the general election. Probably would not have even if Rubio had been the pick.

In any case, I like the pick. I hope it will at least motivate more conservatives and republicans to vote. We cannot have another four years of Ubama. And Ubamacare has got to go or we are cooked.

Paul Ryan may not be the next President, but he definitely should be a future President.

      • wintermute

you could tell right when he said “next president” he knew it and so did the crowd, split second moment of confusion but cheers anyways. he played it off when he came back on the mic. pretty funny.

        • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

A lighthearted moment, and I thought Romney was charming in saying he made a mistake.

  • runner12

This shows some courage and boldness on his part. Ryan was one of my top three preferences. If it was not going to be Jindal or Rubio, I wanted it to be Ryan.

Very pleasantly surprised today. Go Romney/Ryan!

  • the_invisible_hand

Ryan is the best you can hope for in that he is not a net negative on paper.

We’ll have to see how he handles the national spotlight. I like him a lot, but I confess to being worried that Romney picked someone who has very little experience on the national stage.

Paul Ryan is about to be blitzed like he has never seen. That is why I prefer picks like Cheney who have been through hell and back before being picked.

I hope Paul Ryan is up to the national spotlight.

    • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

is they have no intention of running themselves. That leaves us with the mess we had in 2008.

      • the_invisible_hand

I understand what you mean, but how likely is it that the party in power for 8 years is going to win a third election in a row? It rarely happens (Atwater working his magic was the only thing that saved us in 88).

We can’t pick VPs now for elections 8 years down the road. You need a VP that knows exactly what they are doing.

I love Ryan but he has been in the Minor Leagues of politics running district races. This is like asking a minor league pitcher to be your number 2 starter on a team chasing the pennant. It might work. He might dazzle us all, but it is a big risk.

A man like Cheney had already seen everything before and knew what was coming. I prefer those picks myself.

        • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

He’s the only one that’s actually come out and clearly stated we cannot continue down the same fiscal road, and has an actual plan to get us there. I don’t see any seasoned veterans out there with anything like that.

          • the_invisible_hand

But we need Romney saying that. My principles of VPs:

            1. VPs can’t help, they can only hurt or be neutral.
            2. VP therefore cannot staunch any weakness in top of the ticket.
            3. Therefore a gamble on VP is a gamble they will hurt you.
            4. So don’t gamble on VP pick.

The gamble with Ryan, IMO, is whether or not he can take on the national role so quickly. We see people struggle to figure out how to run these national presidential campaigns in primaries. VPs have to hit the ground running with no time to figure it out.

          • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

He’s handled it well so far. I don’t see any reason for that to change.

        • http://lukos.com Ed54

Ever since he became poster boy for the Tea Party. He had to defend his budget plan to a hostile national media. He has has given the GOP response to Obama’s State of the Union address, and has gone toe to toe with Obama in several forums. For several months he has been campaigning for Romney in multiple states, and you can bet his performance was carefully scrutinized. He is no stranger to national issues and will not wilt under the spotlight.

  • commonsenseobserver

Than Ryan. $500 billion in cuts became $700 billion, and the next Vice-President became the next President. Nice to know Mitt actually is committed to this cause and worries about America. :P

  • commonsenseobserver

    Romney-Ryan 2012!

  • Duke

Get used to that term, because with the Ryan pick this election campaign goes from, “Look a Pony…, over there, …, look!” to a factual discussion of what Obama has done to America, the American economy, and the perception of our country to observers all over the world.

Too bad Ryan can’t debate Obama. We would see exactly why those grade transcripts from all those fancy colleges are so top secret. An economist discussing macro econ with a dodo bird who graduated with a degree in “community organizing.”

    • macphisto96

I agree, that watching Ryan debate Obama would be a joy. But I think Romney will make him stumble badly.

Remember how Romney was able to anticipate Gingrich’s attack in Florida and then counter punch. That ruined Gingrich. Romney nearly ruined himself by playing safe in SC.

Romney is at his best when he’s taking risks. That’s what he did in his professional life and he has a great feel for doing so. He did it here today in picking Ryan. He needs to do it on the trail. Romney doesn’t make a lot of mistakes when he takes risks.

And he needs to go for the takedown in the debates. Get Obama off message and watch him become a babbling idiot in front of millions of spectators. We already know that Ryan will destroy Joe Biden.

BUT you know they need some new diapers today!

Ryan is our Batman. Pelosi is the joker.
    Obama is well…..

I heard that Obama is already scrambling and ready to dump Biden for Hillary.

Farmer Cotton came up close and stared at him in the twilight. ‘Well!’ he exclaimed. ‘The voice is right, and your face is no worse than it was, Sam… We feared you were dead.’

‘That I ain’t!’ said Sam. ‘Nor Mr. Frodo. He’s here and his friends. And that’s the to-do. They’re raising the Shire. We’re going to clear out these ruffians, and their Chief too. We’re starting now.’

‘Good, good!’ cried Farmer Cotton. ‘So it’s begun at last! I’ve been itching for trouble all this year, but folks wouldn’t help. And I’ve had the wife and Rosie to think of. These ruffians don’t stick at nothing. But come on now, lads! Bywater is up! We must be in it!’

I just heard fire in Sam’s honest voice and have no concern at all for his ability to withstand the ruffians. I can’t wait to see Merry and Pippin!

  • commonsenseobserver

    • izoneguy

Who can pick clean the carcass of the Obama administration.
And this administration is dead, they just don’t know it yet.

  • renl57

If anybody can get the Dems to stop talking about Ann Romney’s horse long enough to talk about economic and budget matters, Ryan can.

  • davenj1

Really did not think Romney would be as bold with his pick. AARP is probably already firing up the campaign ads they had in waiting. Bottom line is that Ryan knows this economy and budgetary priorities forwards and backwards and will make Biden look asinine (more so) in a debate. He already made Obama look like a jackass at that health care summit.

A clear choice regarding the vision for the future of this country: statism versus economic freedom. Way to go, Romney.

  • commonsenseobserver

But if he had actually embraced Ryan’s policies during his time, we wouldn’t be in this situation at all.

  • commonsenseobserver

Seize the high ground on the social safety net, point out how Ryan’s policy experience complements Romney’s executive record, push the vision on the economy, and distance both people on the ticket from Bush-era policies. Particularly on budget and appropriation votes for Ryan. Especially the more pork-stuffed bills.

  • http://lukos.com Ed54

Particularly the part where they used the 4 finalists as surrogates on the campaign trail. Gave them a really good look at how each will perform during the general campaign, their strengths and weaknesses and what kind of response they get. Essentially they conducted a 2 month tryout for the job. Exactly the sort of corporate managerial competence we should expect from Romney.

  • Common_Cents

Ryan doesn’t take any guff from the media either because he is knowledgeable.

Obama has nothing but lies and immature attacks to rely on.

This election is a referendum on the stupidity of America, whether we’ve reached the tipping point or not.

  • commonsenseobserver

Team Mitt needs to define both Mitt himself and Paul. That’s always been their job, and now, more than ever, especially when people don’t know about Ryan and aren’t even too familiar with Romney. Their families and staff will have to be prepared for the ugliest election since… ever.

  • commonsenseobserver

Or rather, half of America’s comeback team. :P

This ticket looks set to have the two people Obama possibly hates the most…

Get Artur Davis in as a campaign surrogate to advocate for it?
